The art is really lovely and the sound is fantastic, although a little annoying after a bit. The clumsies are really cute, although the rules of the game aren’t really clear and there’s no tutorial or explanation about the “shop” phase. Overall I liked it, although there’s something off in the experience, but I cannot say what that “something” is (not because I don’t want it, but because I’m not entirely sure what doesn’t feel right).

Anyway, good job!

Developer

Thank you for your honesty! I understand if you feel this. Some of our teammates were pressed for time, so we only had so much time to balance everything we could to a playable state in time for the deadline. Some things could've been rectified. We also had other features we wanted to incorporate, including a How to Play page, but had to be scrapped.

Thanks for playing! :)

I think this could make for an excellent idle clicker game concept. Basically, stretch out the evolution period to about ten minutes or so, let players buy and create more islands with the ability to rearrange them so that game overs don't happen too quickly at the same places, limit how often they can move the clumsies around to balance it out and you have yourself a winner 🙂

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! We did have other ideas to add gameplay variety including island variety and wings, horns, etc on clumsies. But due to limited time, we had to cut it out.

Agreed it would be neat as an idle game. We just made the loop short in the jam to keep it interesting. The game over screen used to be an endless mode, we had to change it because it lagged so much, haha. We're glad you liked it. :)

Interesting concept, I clearly saw how difficult it could become after the 3rd round haha. The art is also pretty consistent from the music to the visuals and I really appreciated the floating text explaining what each item/upgrade was doing.

Developer

Thank you! Good to hear what you liked. The difficulty was, err, difficult, for our programmers to balance, but at least doesn't seem to be too hard.

Interesting.
Nice conceptual piece.

Art style is also quite groovy.

Developer

Thanks! First time hearing our art being called groovy, haha.

Great game! Liked the gameplay and sound effects best! However it becomes quite boring after a while. After like a minute, losing becomes inevitable(or that might just be me). You might wanna spice it up by adding islands of random sizes at random spots as the game progresses. But yeah, overall the game was great!

If you don't mind, could you check out my game?

Developer

Thanks for sharing your opinion! As for losing being inevitable, this game was designed to be a mix between a survival game and a pet-breeding sim; the idea being keeping your Clumsies to survive for as many generations (or rounds) as possible. We did have other ideas to add gameplay variety (including island variety as you mentioned!) but due to limited time, we could had to cut back alot of ideas to get our game to a playable state. We're glad you still liked it. :)

I'll have a look at your game when I can.

Developer

Ty for sound effects feedback, it was a new area for me. For the gameplay cycle being boring, I would agree that some new islands (maybe new pets) could help out, just something we didn't have time for.

Overwhelming Clumsy cuteness!! As others have pointed out, some of the stats provided were a bit hard to figure out, but once you get the hang of it it's really fun and I found myself playing multiple rounds. Great work!

Developer

It's great to hear how much everybody loves the cute factor of our game, haha. We had a tricky balancing act figuring out how to convey stat information and how much it would influence the gameplay. A lot of ideas had to be stripped back to get our game to a playable, understandable state. Thanks for your kind words!

TheSoulSelector summed up my thoughts pretty well in his review- great work! The art direction was very cohesive and definitely on point with the "cute" focus!

Developer

Thank you! We had a lot of fun establishing the art style and designing/illustrating every element.

So cute! Such a chilled game! I found myself making little sound effects with my mouth as they walked around.

If you were going to take this further, I'd want more variety; some way of setting my own goal to work towards. This game reminds me of Cultivation, another indie game about growing things. The goal in that is to just get along with the neighbours and grow bigger fruit. Is there some significance to the Clumsies evolving? At first I thought each evolvement would mean differences to the Clumsies themselves but then I just started getting toys and tools. I'd have liked to see my island covered in ever changing Clumsies.

Loved the way everything felt like coloured pencils on paper, even the animated UI bits! Great touch animating the selection indicator of the UI too!

Developer

Thanks for playing! TJ and Kevin made all the art from scratch. Evolving was supposed to add wings, horns, etc but we didn't have time.

This was so adorable! I had a lot of fun. I could see people being excited to collect more clumsies and this could make a great mobile game!

Developer

Thanks for playing! We had a lot of fun making it.

It's really cute. Lots of elements all coming together in a pleasing way. I can imagine you can get good at it but in all honesty it is not the kind of game I enjoy massively. Not that you should take that as a dig. It is well thought out and put together and I am pretty sure that for those who love this they will really love it. Great effort for a first time team and you can see it has been made with great care. Well done.

Developer

It's okay if it's not your type of game. Trying the game out and leaving feedback is all we can ask for, so thank you!

Such an adorable and charming game, brings me so much nostalgia for old pet-simulator games from my childhood :) the art and sound work well together and create a comforting vibe, and the gameplay idea is really unique and interesting!
I found the game slightly confusing at first as there was a lot of information provided immediately, and it took me a while to properly get it. I would definitely recommend stripping back some of the mechanics and elements in the beginning and then slowly easing the player into the experience later on. However, once I understood the mechanics, it was a really fun experience! Great job guys :D

Developer(+1)

Glad you enjoyed the game! We did originally plan to create a How to Play page, but we were running out of time, so our programmers/designers thought the most practical way would be to have a brief tutorial at the beginning of a session. A lot of things had to be stripped back for us to complete our demo to our satisfaction. Thank for the feedback!

really cute clumsies! I like the animation and the theme of the game! It would be cool to see more features like something else would happen if you pet them(they will get happy and evolve faster?), and maybe able to buy more islands. Overall a great idea and implementation!

Developer

Thanks for your opinion! We had more ideas that had to be cut. There's only so much you can do within a week, haha.

This is a really nice game! As others said, stats were hard to understand at first

Developer

Thanks! Good to know.

Submitted(+3)

This was too cute! I love their animations and the music and sound effects.
I spent longer than I should have just petting the first one I accidentally made by merging the first 2. I had to restart it to then realise they needed to be next to each other but then I had a brilliant time! They were everywhere!

Really fun, great sound, art and animations. Well put together.

"Achievement Unlocked: You have pet the Clumsie."

Good to hear you had fun with the creatures! Our aim was to create a pet-breeding simulator with a survival twist, so we're glad to hear we nailed the pet-breeding part. Our composer is pretty young so I'm sure it'd be great for them to hear praise for their audio work!

Submitted(+3)

Really cool graphics! Animations and sounds are also extremely on point. The game is fun and, overall, follows the theme. However, it is a bit hard to catch the mechanics at the first start. Once you get them, though, the game is really enjoyable. I would love to see a future expanded version, with a little tutorial maybe :)

Developer(+1)

Awesome to hear your opinion! We did plan to make a How to Play page, but with us running out of time, we had to improvise. Our programmers/designers thought having a brief tutorial at the beginning of the game was the most efficient way to explain, but we understand that it could be improved. Thanks!

Submitted(+3)

Charming game, the artstyle is really nice, I’m a fan of the clumsies animations. I love the transition, and that you can pet the clumsies. I found the amount information a little overwhelming, once I began to understand some of the stats I enjoyed it a lot more though.

Developer

Good to hear so much praise for our art direction! Our creature designer/animator, Kevin, did a fantastic job nailing the cutesy, bouncy liveliness of our Clumsie creatures. We understand the gameplay information can be hard to grasp at first; we did our best trying to balance the difficulty and information conveyance with the limited amount of time we had. We'll think about this more in future projects!
