I'm developing a top-down action game where you hunt ghosts that may not always be ghosts. How is everyone else going with their games so far?

Submitted(+1)

Its my first attempt at making a 3D game and so far I have the movement and basic layout of the game. My idea is to make 4 simple puzzle rooms which will unlock the ending.

Submitted(+2)

Yooo, that sounds cool! Good luck, can't wait to play your game

(+2)

im making a game about dimensions!
your a cube and you must rescue other shapes that are trapped in the 2nd dimension

Submitted(+1)

Woah, epic concept. Can't wait to see how your game will look like too!

thanks!!!

Submitted(+4)

I'm going to create a game with optical illusions and more. Just created a little object-distance-scaler script :)

Submitted

Optical illusions game? Sounds super cool, good luck on that!

Submitted(+1)

That sounds cool!

Wow, this is sowonderful!

I think I'm doing good. It's my second 2d platformer game. Right now I'm designing the main levels for the game and fixing some issues with the pixel art assets that I've made.  I only hope I'll make it on time.  And if anyone is interested, the game I'm currently developing is a simple mini-game when the player is forced to switch between two different dimensions to finish the level. A similar mechanism can be noticed in the game called The Medium. I am highly inspired by it.

Edit: The main reason for that 'switching dimensions' mechanism is my attempt to make it clear that not everything in the game's world is real. Also, the big part of this whole concept is a mini-story that I hope will be done before the end of the jam.

Submitted

Oooo, sounds great! Fixing and improving art at this time of the game jam will make the end product look much better. Can't wait for your game! Good luck!

(+2)

I'm making a game where you run away from monsters in your nightmare until its time to wake up and I'm fairly sure that development is going well

Submitted(+1)

Nice theme! Sounds like you can make a pretty good game out of that. Good luck!

new update i made my scope to big and now cant finish in time im dumb person

(+3)

I'm making a 2d platformer game where a decoy is in front of you and the player is hard to see. The idea is you have to use the position of the decoy to jump at the right time.

Submitted

Oh, sounds like an interesting idea! You base your movement and jumping on the environment and not the player itself. Goodluck!

(+3)

I think I'm doing alright so far. I'm making a puzzle game (something I've never done before) and the idea is based on the way that things can look different in the dark. To be more specific, the silhouettes of objects can look completely different to what they actually are. So if you take that idea, you can make a puzzle game where you have to arrange objects in a certain way so that when the light is switched off, you have a brand new object that can be used to complete the level.

Submitted

Oooo! Light based puzzles! Can't wait to see your final product. Good luck

Submitted(+1)

Me and my friend are making a PS1 style horror game. It's our first time participating in a gamejam using 3D, so we're working out the extra kinks that comes with 3D, but so far I think we've done an amazing job and I'm really excited to see where we end up with it!

Submitted

PS1 graphics songs really cool. Good luck on  that!

Submitted(+1)

I took two days 15 Hours straight without much of a break and a third today to polish. I hope it's done now xD

Made a Pirateship where you are on Guard duty and with your light you vanish Ghost away who want to steal the Treasure.

Submitted

You’re done??? Wow, that’s really impressive. Great work, man!

Submitted

Yeah I just du some polish and featurecreeping the hell out of it xD

Submitted(+1)

I havent had much time to work on it but so far got my character and enemies with a basic layout of a scene, my idea is a player in his dreams and needs to escape, few different ways of escaping.

Submitted

That sounds interesting. Is this closer to an escape-room kind of game, or just a general theme to a platformer?

Submitted

I'm making a top down hack and slash except...in the first level...something unique happens that completely sets the game apart from normal hack and slash games...It's my first go at 2d art for a game, though i have made 2d games before, just not 2d art for games. The perspective is a bit messed up so some animations do not really look like a top down game unfortunately. But I have finished all the base movement, attacking, enemies, the twist, etc

The remaining things I have to do are sound, a main menu, actual levels, and if I have time,  story and hopefully some more complicated mechanics like dodging and other things I will not reveal here.

Submitted(+1)

Making a top-down bullet hell with a theme-inspired twist. Got all the core stuff ready, what’s left is content (more levels, enemy types, etc) and polishing. To be honest, this is the first time I’m so good with the schedule (it’s my 8th jam, though :D I’m a slow learner). Here’s a video:

Submitted

Oooo, sounds like an interesting game! What's the twist? So far by your video, the game looks like it's good!

Submitted

Thank you for kind words! The twist is that some enemies (and something else) are not real, and you have a means of distinguishing real and non-real stuff.

Submitted(+1)

oh thats the same twist i went for in my game! It's a 2d top down hack & slash though, not a bullet hell

Thank you everyone for posting your progress! Here's my progress:

I am doing simple "Papers, please" style game where you play as cashier and need to find IDs and money that are fake (not real). Still heavy work in progress.

(top right grey box is just for debug purposes)

Submitted

Woah, that looks pretty cool! What if the paper on the table itself already displayed the information (albeit at a smaller resolution) for good players to tell errors quickly? Good luck on the development!

That's pretty neat idea and probably easy to implement. I will probably try to add it!

Submitted(+2)

Update about my game. I created a little showcast video:

Submitted

Oooo, a puzzle room game? Can't wait to see where this goes. Good luck!

Submitted(+1)

This is my first game jam, and so I'm not too experienced with making a game quickly, but I think I got a pretty good idea for the game. It's a top-down resource management game where you play as a guy going camping, but he isn't the most brave (and has a wild imagination). You have to handle his sanity while getting food and wood and refilling you campfire as wild animals from his imagination "attack" him and lower his sanity.

Things are going pretty smoothly so far, as I only have a few more things to add that aren't art based, which I am trying to save for last as I have never really been a good pixel artist :/

Submitted

Sounds great! Developing games can be rough the first time around, so don't try to do more than you planned. Good luck though!

Submitted(+1)

Our team is sort of experienced with jams and making games quick, but apparently not experienced enough to schedule actually making the game. We had to do everything today because we were busy every other day. Hoping some people will play it and give feedback so we can fix bugs before ratings open. Our game is a short horror-puzzle thing with PS1 style graphics. It’s our first time using that style (PS1 that is) so it’s not as polished but, hey, what can you do. Here’s a quick screenshot

(1 edit) (+1)

I have quite rapidly ascended to godhood. My next step will be to warp the space-time continuum. I hope the scope of my project isn't too large.

LIKE A NON-EUCLIDEAN GAME?

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

I'm developing a top down game where you are trapped in a dream with and you try to wakes up from it . it may be not a dream who knows 👀

Submitted(+1)

i am doing the same the thing kinda, lol

Submitted

What's a coincidence bro!!

(+3)

Damn, my progress seems to be like 10 times slower than everyone else. Still, I think this is better than my previous jam submissions though.

Making a game where you take photos of NFTs and try to get away with it. Doesn't include real NFTs. Don't know if this is gonna end up being bad, but hey we'll know! xD

(+2)

I slept on the jam a bit but I'm currently doing an isometric game where you reveal the contents of a room with your flashlight.. The twist here is that monsters are hidden in the objects so you must find them before they attack you from behind.

Submitted(+1)

Very cool

Submitted(+1)

Worst graphic worst gameplay and worst story . I think My progress i amazing XD

(+1)

Mines pretty far ig... i need to make 3 more maps and decorate all of them, but since m in high school and have my exams coming up (among other shit), I would say I am fucked. இ௰இ

Submitted

Oof, good luck! We're on the final stretch, so you can do it!

Submitted(+1)

Ive finished my game so if anyone wants to check it out here's the link no-one-knows-you-exist

Submitted(+1)

I'm developing a low-cost rogue-like where you have to turn some things real to calm the ancient gods ... Maybe i oversized the project but it's fun to make and i'm learning so many things :D

Submitted(+1)

I've made a maze game where the dead ends aren't real. On first glance it looks impossible but you can walk through all of the walls that appear to be a dead ends.

(+1)

I'm doing a retro style 1bit walking simulator about dreams :)

This is my first ever gamejam. Boy it is a tough and fun as heck.

Best of luck with your projects everybody!

Submitted(+1)

done submitted (:

Submitted(+1)

I'm making a game about fishing cause 'Real' and 'Reel' lol! I think the code base is trying to kill me but otherwise its going smoothly :D

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

my game is almost done, but it looks bad. I don't know if it even fits the theme. my game has 2 characters one is pixelated and not real. the other is real, and does things in the real world. the pixel character can phase into the real world and help the chachter.

(+1)

Im almost done, im making a spimle platforming game where you get to the end....... if there is one....

Submitted(+1)

almost doneisshh...
