I love the concept, good job bro <3

Developer

thank you so much 🐻‍❄️ especially for playing the game. Happy to hear that.

Ah the sheer nostalgia! Can't believe I would get to see something like this in this Jam. Brings backs memories!

The turn based combat was well implemented with lots of choices and outcomes. Good moves and variety in actions. Although I got everyone of my party members killed xD.

Audio and sound effects for the moves and effects were beautiful and the old JRPG soundtracks were lovely to sit and listen to.  However, there were few audio artefacts and random cuts on some of the sounds used.

Kudos on the visuals and art! I only wish I could play past a certain point but I got the attention span of a 'fruit fly', hehe.  Had problems with the aspect ratio on start-up, but it could just be me.
Keep up the good work and looking forward to seeing more from you!

Developer

thank you for very detailed review, very appreciated that. For aspect ratio as far as I know RM2K is only 320*240pixel so you may use Alt+Enter to put into windows mode instead.

I don't know much about Mega Man Battle Network and I know even less about .hack lol.

The story isn't super gripping... at the start it's just "let's go get some data" "ok" without any explanation of how these two universes are crossing over. Some of the dialogue could have been proofread, and instructions on where to go aren't always clear.

Visually, it looks pretty good, and the audio is nice too (though I'm not sure about the music changes whenever you start a boss fight, it's a little awkward).

And the gameplay is fine, though the battles are a bit repetitive.

Developer(+1)

thank you so much for the review, the story I realized is so simple referring to the original Megaman Battle Network. Will add instruction menu on next game. For battle, yes it is repetitive hence I put the non random battle and Gameshark codes to eliminate enemies.

A very interesting use of the RpgMaker! I feel a bit touched because not everyone knows .Hack, but instead everyone knows sword art online.. Kite is one of my favourite main characters out there. Period. By the way back to the game. You definitely put a lot of effort in this game. I loved the soundtrack! This game is missing only one thing (I am jocking xD)

Developer(+1)

Yes, majority knows the concept "trapped in game world" refers to SAO, while it should be ".hack//SIGN" at the beginning.

And grunty, the mascot of .hack itself, yes unfortunately not having that.

Amazing Game! I didn't expect to see an RPG done so well in a game jam. A job of this magnitude done in just a month is truly something incredible.

Great Job!

Developer

Thank you very much

Nice game :D. It bring me back memories of RPG maker and classic JRPGs. The history is intriguing and visuals are well made, even custom systems and effects in RPG maker. I also identified few songs :P.

I'm on stage 3, but keen to see how it ends.

Just a sugestion for other players, remember to "upload your data" (save game) from the menu before bosses. I discovered it was possible after dying on the 3rd boss and had to repeat from start 🙈.

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for playing, really appreciated that. Don't forget there will be path blocking bug in stage 4, you may use GameShark to kill all enemies in the map.

Very nice game, cool graphics, epic music during battles... I like it! Good job! ;)

The first battle was hard but with your hints on the game page, I could make it.

There is plenty of work here and you can feel this when you play it. Love the genre! Great job!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for playing. At first I thought the first battle with all unlocked skills is normal, but then I realized it is normal only for RPG avid players, hence I give the hints at GamePage and option to skip.

The reference for "final battle like" as the first battle itself comes from old game Lufia from SNES.

It was amazing to see how much effort went into this game!

I really enjoy JRPG games in general, and this was a very interesting take on the genre.

Great work!

Developer

thanks very much to play the game, very appreciated.

It's obvious how much effort was put into this game. I honestly can't believe you took on such a project in only a month. It's mindblowing. It took awhile to get through, but easily one of the best games of the jam. Even if someone isn't a JRPG fan, they should be able to appreciate all the work that went into putting this game together. Fantastic job.

Developer

Thank you very much, your game is also very beautiful and innovative.

Classic JRPG style with good music.

Developer

Thank you for playing this classic JRPG

So far I've really enjoyed it! I love the old school JRPG look and the music is pretty good. Luckily there is an option to skip the first Morgana fight, as I was struggling hard. Hopefully I can finish the game soon. Great work!

Developer

Thank you for playing, yes the first battle is kinda like an entry barrier for some so I create the "skip" option and put notes everywhere (game page and in cheat code.txt).

I like the idea of the game.

You've married two of my favorite series very well! So excited to see RPG Maker 2000. I grew up with the original PS1 release of RPGM! Been following the growth of that engine for awhile, love it! I really love that you're using multiple styles of combat for the game, it makes it extra exciting.  I like the ability learning system you've utilized as well. Great job on all of the story and dialogue. Difficulty level feels just right too.   I appreciate the different sprites for the characters. It was fun experiencing a different story with these characters I love. I've been playing for a good while now, hoping to finish it! This is seriously bringing back my old school JRPG kick like crazy. I want to see what other hybrids you put together, nicely done!

Developer

Thank you very much, finding a Player that knows these two series nowadays is very rare, so I am really happy that you like this. I also played PS1 release of RPGMaker in the past but cannot create any game and I found out RPGmaker2k. Since then I created around 5-6 games so far.

And of course if you want to play fast you may use GameShark function. I intend to put that in my next game as well in case people don't like grinding.

Your game seems great too, I will try to play that today.

Hi, I've been playing your game for a short while now and I've kinda been loving it but I actually encountered a bug just now while I was randomly going from house to house. When I go to the left-most house in the area where the main character's house is, after approaching it and clicking enter like the rest of the houses, it suddenly exits the game and gives me this error message: "Cannot open file srm95". Everything else in the game, as I've been playing it, has been running pretty fine. I hope this bug report helps you somehow. I definitely think I'll be finishing this game. Keep up the good work!

(I can probably try and recreate the error and send pics if my description is too vague)

Developer (3 edits) (+1)

thank you for the report, I will try to recreate that. And also thank you for playing.

edit: able to recreated that bug, yes it's a place that normally not accessible (blocked by fences, but 1 spot can be passed >_<) so I didn't playtested that house yet. Well, there is nothing on that house anyway so it's not game-breaking bug. Nevertheless, thanks for the report.

Such a brilliant game! I've so far managed to play a good amount but am keeping that downloaded to play through full once i've got through a bunch of others! It's joined my long term play-list congrats! I can tell you now if this was on a GBC cartridge many years ago it'd be in the devices of kids all over the world! Well done!

Developer

Thank you very much for the kind words, I am so happy to hear that. Unfortunately the original game (MBN) was so old (2001) so I understand that not much people know that title nowadays.

This is really cool, the amount of work that must have gone into this is astounding. I beat Morgana :) Had a minor issue using a gamepad where the analog stick doesn’t always go in the direction you expect - probably just needs more deadzone. Otherwise, a very good submission

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and congrats able to beat first superboss. Yes this is quite a long game around 3-4 hours (if using cheat code) and more if not.

I defeated Morgana! :)

Developer

Congratulations, but she will be back and more powerful in the later game :)

Note that I update the game page to inform Players either to skip the battle or fight (I give hints on what is UltimateSkill needed to be used in this fight).

Omg, RPG Maker 2000 <3 It's so lovely to see this engine nowadays!

Developer

Yes, it's RM2k which is very old engine. The game itself is a remake from my 2005-released game with updated art assets.
