Such a cool game! Love the animations and the art, music sounds amazing. I wish the health pickups were a little more visible and it had some kind of checkpoints so you don't have to keep starting over if you die. Overall great work! Loved it

Developer(+1)

the pickups are big hearts in the correct version, a checkpoint system would be cool i agree. Thanks for playing!

IF YOU HAVE PROBLEM RUNNING IT ON MAC

Download the zip, unzip it, open a terminal in that directory and launch these two commands:

chmod +x beat-domain_MAC.app/Contents/MacOS/beat-domain
xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine beat-domain_MAC.app

Otherwise the system will complain about "not having permissions". The reason this happens is that it was built on Windows and the app has not the permission to execute.

I hope this helps somebody, I was so obsessed by this game I had to try it on the Mac I use at work to get the full experience (was too hard otherwise).

Having played it fully, I really appreciated it (even though in normal it is somewhat too easy on most parts of the song, since you can just stay in a corner and avoid all bullets, while it would have been better if the bullet pattern would force you to move constantly - and the hard mode is just impossible for me). The music is just terrific, I think that if you continue to improve on it this could become a really cool rhythm game!

We really appreciate the troubleshoot and feedback Matt! Cheers :)

The music is great and the gameplay is really interesting, I like how when you get hit you gain a wider area!

I didn't like how the bullets were shot randomly (as far as I've seen), I think it would have been great to have some patterns that repeat (even if the sequence may be randomized to some extent, I'm thinking of Super Hexagon) so that learning the patterns rewards the player.

Anyways I was just impressed by the presentation, very nice game!

Super cool (and nice to have a bug that people like me can utilize to win it.. I will not play it on the mac :))  Anyway. Fantastic work. Love the graphics and the sound and it's well implemented. Just the headbanging is a really nice touch. Love it.

Stylish art and music! Fun how both characters are constantly grooving, sets the mood. The art of the floor is stylish too. Neat mechanic how the arena expands when you get hurt. Though I don't think it's reasonable or maybe even humanly possible to beat the whole thing on the innermost ring. And in a way, the expanding arena makes it so you only have effectively 1 hp total, since you will very likely end up fighting on the biggest arena size. But it's an interesting idea. Also, this mechanic fits the "on the edge" theme!

I think I made it pretty far after a few attempts, maybe about 1:30 or 2:00. Nice sync with the bullet patterns to the music. Though there's definitely potential for more variety in bullet patterns. I wish I didn't lose all my progress whenever I died, and have to repeat a bunch of easy stuff, it gets a little repetitive. I played on the Windows build, which is outdated, and you mentioned having two difficulties, which I think is great! I would have enjoyed the easier difficulty. You may want to ask one of the jam organizers if you can upload the correct Windows build, since it was just a mistake of uploading the wrong file.

Developer

Ah yea i verified, it's breaking the rules because there is no way to tell whether I've actually changed the files. I'll update it asap when I can! Thanks for playing btw! Good feedback

In my opinion i think the pattern of the bullets are too random for me, i wish it had a some sort of pattern like firing clockwise fashion

And I found that the teleport is so powerful that you can leave the platform

But still the art and the music was amazing and the game is solid! Nice job!

Developer(+1)

Yea rn the bullets are mapped randomly to the rhythm, the teleport bug was fixed in the updated version. Thanks for playing!

Holy heck this game is freaking hard! I LOVE the way the characters bob to the beat of the music (which is equally awesome). The mechanics I think would be super fun but the area you have to play in is just too darn tight for me to be able to survive for long enough to get anywhere. I tried about 10 times and got to about the 4th change in moveset on my best one. I don't know if there's an ending to it or not, but sadly I'm not sure I'll ever be skilled enough to see it. I'm not sure if you updated the difficulty or not on the MAC build, but I played it on Windows. Great game though!

Developer(+1)

Yup the difficulty you played on is the Hard difficulty! There are 2 difficulty modes in the updated version!

An awesome game in a nutshell.

This is an awesome game. I’m sad that I wasn’t able to play the correct version, definitely gonna save this one for later post jam. I love the mix of rhythm game and bullet hell it works REALLY well. Especially keeping it fresh by making the game easier the more hits you take, and having a chance to reclaim a hit by grabbing the drop kept me playing. Then the execution of the art, and music, and character controller make this a solid entry.

Developer

Thank you im glad you still enjoyed it! I'll make sure to update it asap

Graphics were great, music was good, game play has the difficulty of a shmup.

Aesthetically, I like what is here, the crt filter was a nice touch. The visual ques when you get hit was nice, fairly extravagant and I like how the animations were animated to the beat of the song. The pixel art was of higher quality than other entries I've seen so far (which makes sense, as this is the first quartet that I've encountered).

The variation of the bullet patterns is nice, and I like how there are essentially phases for the types.

I didn't get that far, but I got far enough to see the phase shift once.

Overall, good work!

Developer

did you play it on linux?

Developer

Thanks for clarifying! And hope you enjoyed yourself!

the art is amazing in my opinion and the mechanics are really good

I think I won since the music has ended. And then I stepped into the boss to kill it. I guess I did something wrong :(

Developer

Nope you didn't. I uploaded the wrong version of the game. The game is suppose to end after you survive till the end. Thanks for playing anyway!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for checking out our game! All art and music are original and made just for this jam. Hope to see you around and have a great jam!
PS: It has came to my attention my Windows PC build is the wrong version, that's unfortunate but my MAC and Linux version should be right. I'll upload the correct version after the Jam

What an awesome game, i loved every aspect of it especially how the player's animation is in sync with the music. Also the mechanic of the players lives being represented by the arena size and their speed is really creative.
