Wow! That's a really cool game, I liked the difficulty of it, and the puzzles. And loved the pixel art :D

I couldn't interact with the gameboy and got stuck mid air :D Pity, it looks great

Oh no! Well that's not good! Thank you for trying my game and I'm sorry you encountered those bugs. Sadly the interaction bug has been encountered a few times, usually moving away from the Gameboy and moving back will solve it, if not others reported refreshing the game fixes it. As far as getting stuck midair, I haven't heard of that particular issue, was the player completely stuck mid air or had they landed and the animation was stuck?

Refreshing and moving out and in did not seem to fix it and it was completely stuck midair, I could not jump again. It looked like interacting midair is causing the issue.

Alright this game was not too bad. At first, I was very confused as to why I need to press the space bar to do a double jump after jumping once with the up arrow key. Once I figured out that the space bar functionality changes with each cartridge that I got, It made a lot more since since the space bar is actually the action button. I actually like how it changes between parts of the game because it helps to give each part of the game a distinct feel. 

I did notice some odd things about the overall design. For instance, when I was dashing while running, I noticed that the character moved a bit even though I stopped, which lead to multiple instances where I almost fell off the platform. Perhaps you should modify that function so that the player stops completely once they stop moving after a dash. I was also a bit confused by how the level swapping worked after I got the first key, although it didn't take me too long to figure out how it all work and by extension, how to beat the second level. You should also make it a bit more clear the order in which the player needs to move after the first key to avoid confusion, such as adding a number by each cartridge that you collect. On the bright side, I didn't encounter any mechanical issues with either the portal or gravity flip level. 

I also loved how the color of the whole room changed depending on which mechanic you had enabled, as it helped to further solidify each of them in addition to helping me figure out the order to beat level two. The sound effects were also implemented well, although I cannot say the same for the music. I think the track is just too short and loops too frequently. Perhaps if you made the track a bit longer, or had the music change based on which mechanic you had enabled, it would improve that aspect of the game immensely. 

Overall, this game did a pretty decent job of not only tying into the theme, but also being a fun little experience. While there were a few issues that I encountered along the way, I believe that if you continued working on this game after the jam ends, I think it could be really great. Good job!

Hi! Thanks for playing my game! Also thank you for taking the time to write out your feedback. There are definitely a few physics issues that I didn't have time to work out unfortunately. I've been seriously considering expanding on this outside of the jam and that will end up including a physics and input system overhaul as the systems I built were functional but definitely not performing the way I intended them too. I will most certainly take all of your feedback under advisement. In regards to the music, I completely understand what you're saying. Music is unfortunately not one of my strong suits and it was my first time using Bosco Ceoil so I had a bit of a learning curve which ended up taking too much time to make the little tune you heard in game. I had intended to have a short little track looping for each different cartridge to further solidify the idea that they were different "games" but time got away from me. Anyways thanks again for playing my game and for all your feedback!

Wow, you’re very welcome. I understand where you’re coming from in regards to the issues that you’ve encountered. There’s only so much you can do in such a short amount of time. Really clever concept and imo a perfect expression of the theme - literally so much potential just in a single room.  I must admit I couldn't get the double jump to work when I was walking left, I won't mark you down on this because I don't know if this is a problem my end or a bug. Overall, I think the game was a great idea and you executed well on it.

I haven't heard of that particular bug, may I ask what browser you were playing in? I've noticed the WebGL build has had some odd bugs that weren't present in my standalone builds.

I totally love the idea! Really great to include so many mechanics into one room and constantly change the scene. Although the physics sometimes felt bit odd, I was able to master the movement after little while. The puzzle along with color changes for different ability is really nice touch that feels just right. Would love to see more levels and obstacles, but for the scope of a jam, the length is still great! Good job

From gameplay mechanics to UI design to art style and soundtrack... everything about this was excellent. Really good use of colour to indicate the change in cartridge and therefore skill. Amazing contribution, you should be very proud.

Okay, that was extremely cool. The art was incredibly cute, and while it took me a minute to realise what was going on, the abilities were amazing and creative, and combining them all to create a puzzle game was such a great idea. I'm pretty sad that there was only two puzzles to solve, I would really really love this idea to be expanded upon and to have to mix up the abilities to solve different puzzles along the way. I managed to skip a step on the second level by rapidly changing through the skills mid-jump, which was awesome and felt so fun to game the little systems you had put in place to gain an advantage.

Only thing that annoyed me was every time I switched "cartridges" the popup paused the movement and slowed down the flow of the game a bit. But other than that I loved it! Great job!

Based off of the feedback I've been getting here, I'm heavily considering continuing development on this outside of the jam luckily my level building system is pretty modular so it's easy for me to design new levels. I've also had some good dialogue about how to switch up the dynamism of the puzzle designs so I'm excited to try some of it out. Haha I'm glad you found one of the little shortcuts, I was thinking of taking that out after I discovered it but thought it was a nice little reward for creative thinking and skill level. That is good to know about switching cartridges I'm definitely going to have to overhaul my input system as it hasn't quite been working as intended. Thank you for all of your feedback!

I enjoyed this game a lot! I thought it was a very creative use of the theme and the art style was super nice. On the first level, I would have liked a clearer distinction of what was able to be jumped on and what wasn't, but it only took me a minute to try and jump on everything so not a major issue. I thought all the powers were super unique and I really liked the touch of the level-changing color to help keep track of what power you were using! Well done!

Super fun I had a lot of fun playing this! Great work overall everything came together well although I wish there was more UI to let you know immediately what cartridge you have without the text appearing just my opinion though

What a fun gameplay! Love the art and sound too. I accidentally found a cheat on the second level by staying on top of the bookshelf and jump before the gravity stage so I can skip the previous one. Anyway, I really enjoyed this game!

Like others said, I really like the  art design and concept! I'm kind of surprised there isn't a game or super hero that utilizes this idea (i.e. different powers from different game cartridges) or if there is, I haven't heard of it at least.

I got the float above the ground glitch after beating the game, so I thought it was a literalization of no longer being grounded for a second.

Wow this is a really cool concept! The second level was very intuitive, this was a great design. I think the only issue I had was with the Sonic Dash level, it was difficult to give the game multiple inputs at a time, sometimes it wouldn't work. Also I couldn't interact with the gameboy on my first try, I had to reload the game. Other than that it was amazing!

The music was a bit repetitve and with the 8-bit sound it can get a bit annoying, but other than that the concept is really cool and the execution well done, very good game overall!

I enjoyed so much this idea of having lots do do even when your "grounded" lol. Congratulations on your entry! very creative

Some considerations:

  • The first time I tried to play your game it bugged and I could not interact with the gameboy :(
  • Sometimes you cannot jump, and the animations freeze. I could not understand when this happens or how to trigger this bug, unfortunately, but it don't happen very often.
  •  I couldn't go to the next level, I don't know if you made one, but nothing appear to me to interact to get me to the next level. I though it was a similar bug to the first one on this list.

I'm not entirely sure what's causing it just yet.  The jump bug is weird, I only found it in testing a couple times towards the end of the jam so I didn't have time to implement a solution unfortunately. As far as the levels, there is only two levels in the game. The tutorial level and the second level. Once you get the second key you beat the game. I got a bug where I was floating at 2 pixel above the ground and I couldn't jump or interract, maybe a jumping animations that didn't got cancelled ?

Anyway very fun, I like how not only the terrain changes but you get different abilities with each one.

A few people have mentioned that bug, try moving around and try to interact with it again to see if it solves it, if not others have mentioned refreshing takes care of it. This is a very creative concept! Swapping between the different powers and level geometry provided a very interesting puzzle-solving element.

While I was able to grasp the concepts pretty quickly, the popups describing the powers hurt the flow a fair bit on the first level. Considering that it is required for the player to demonstrate they know how the power works in order to unlock the next cartridge, it would help if the popups only appeared once.

Granted, of course, that was only an issue for the first level, being the tutorial. Still, something to keep in mind for the future.

The aesthetics were charming, and the change in the palette for each power helped me remember quickly what power was selected.
