One of the best games in this jam I've seen. Very polished. Very cool lighting system!! I don't need to get into gameplay because others have covered it well here, so I'll just way Excellent Job. I don't know if it needed the filter over the screen to look good though. But that's a small gripe. This game delivers!!

Developer

Thank you :)

I’m blown away by the quality on this. It’s so well polished! I’d love to see this built out into a bigger project. The mechanics were pretty cool as well, using the neon glow to light the dark caves - the platforming was a little frustrating though, the really fast fall speed combined with the low visibility meant I took a LOT of damage just falling onto unseen hazards very often. A slower fall speed and maybe a double jump would make it feel a lot better imo.

Seriously, I can’t get over how well made this is. The UI/HUD, visuals, sound, the LIGHTING, everything is just so well done. As someone who just started gamedev recently it’s really inspiring to see the stuff people can create. Well done!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! I will probably make a bigger game with the idea since all the feedback was so positive :)    There is actually a doublejump in the game (though I never explained that anywhere)^^

This is a really great neon-themed game! And love the retro-synth music to go along with it. I like that you need to light your way by shooting the ledges and platforms.  Your GUI hud systems are spectacular!  Great work!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! (:

Congrats for finding the balance of visuals and gameplay within so little time-frame.  I also made a semi-platformer-with-geography thingy, (my first) but made of tiles.  So conquering this realm, where platforms and walls are of different kind & size is beyond me -still.  Reminds me of Turrican. :)

Developer

Thank you :)

This was fantastic! I hope you do more with this, it really feels like an early version of something that I would definitely pay money for. I loved the mechanic of having your health, life, AND vision all be the same resource, it adds a level of tactical thought to what would ordinarily be pretty mundane decisions - I'll probably take some damage on traps getting to that big resource, after shooting to extract it will I have enough health left to get back out and get to the end? Ordinarily fire rate is the first thing I upgrade, but do I really want my itchy trigger finger spraying my health all over the walls? It was great!

I don't think I have any criticisms that you probably aren't already aware of and would have done something about had this not been done on a time crunch for a jam (enemies not being shot if they're too close, tough to shoot down from a ledge, UI design, that sort of thing), and quite honestly what you HAVE done as a single developer in a short time frame is pretty remarkable. I loved the weight of the character, the movement of the tail when jumping was on point. Congratulations, I hope you win!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words! It's really rewarding to hear that some people like the game so much :) I think with all the positive feedback I got I will make an actual game out of this. Motivation for my old projects was getting pretty low so it would be cool to work on something new. Especially an arcady game like this wich is playable from a very early stage and doesn't require multiple years of development while still not being playable^^ So thanks again for your feedback, it really means a lot to me (:

So, obviously, 5 stars for visuals and theme, but I found that it wasn't quite as fun as I'd hoped. A number of small things contributed to this: the slow movement speed, the low health count, the small size of hitboxes, the excessive screenshake and effects that had me just standing still waiting for them to wear off, the fast falling speed. It felt too punishing.

Developer

Hi! Thanks for the feedback! I agree, it's pretty hard. Effects can be a bit much too :P    should have added an option to turn them down.. When I make a new version there will be more time for testing such things^^

Submitted(+1)

this game should win the jam. reminds me of the platformer ink but now the mechanic actually makes sense. This title goes above and beyond any reasonable expectation of what a game jam entry could be. Kudos to you!

Developer

Thank you haha^^ Yeah I had little sleep while making this. I'll probably go a little easier at the next jam, it really was to much  stress :D

Submitted(+1)

The production quality in this as a jam game is insane. I love how you have to make your own lighting for the sake of navigation. Congrats on making this!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Glad you liked it :)

Very well elaborated game! Upgrade system for weapons and mutations for the character. An interesting concept making the ways for combat also the means for exploration. In addition, exploring the cave is very challenging! It is, indeed, atmospheric! The soundtrack makes the whole experience more immersive.

Suggestion: the game is difficult! A lot of times I've been dancing in the spikes. Also, I don't know how much this would diverge from the initial idea, but how about a bigger dim light around the character? It would slightly increase the vision field, making things a little bit easier for the player.

Overall, its a gorgeous game, but it can be a brutal experience for the begginers. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback!  The difficulty is really a big problem for most players :P In an updated version there will be better balancing.

Submitted(+1)

Expertly polished and executed. I did play the jam only version. Wish I could get farther but could only progress for a few minutes before dying repeatedly.

Game looks gorgeous, ui icons are on point, the wall slime is something I've seen repeatedly in the past though I love the inclusion of adding light sources to them.

Great job

Developer

Thank you :)   I sadly did not have enough time for proper   user testing and balancing so it got pretty hard    :P

Wow, this was incredibly atmospheric! The animations for the UI were top-notch! Everything was very fluid and smooth! I loved it! I just wish there was more to it as well as some direction. I wasn't exactly sure what my goal was for the game other than just collecting dust, and upgrading weapons, Which is fine as a good core game loop! I just don't know what I'm collecting all of it for. Overall though, an amazing effort was put into this and your graphics programming/skills are legit! Great work! Looking forward to more!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much :) Currently there is no real goal except trying to go as far down as possible :P

Submitted(+1)

Oh okay cool! haha. I think this would be an awesome game to expand! I get very heavy Hollow Knight vibes from it! I dig it! Great work! :D

(+1)

I liked it a lot! The animations were very smooth and satisfying

Developer

Thanks!

Great, interesting game!

There were too many effects (filters) for me, so it's not comfortable to play.

It takes a long time to reload a weapon, provided that we both illuminate and attack with it - this is a long time, as it seems to me. Can do alternative shooting with the right mouse button, just for lighting.

Good luck in development =)

Thank you for playing (:

This is really cool!!! I love the theme and you created some really nice atmosphere

AWESOME looking! I found it a little hard to see where I was going, but great stuff!

Thanks! :) You can look further by holding shift

This is really well polished! The Sprites look good, the animations are simple yet fluid,  the illumination is really beautiful and is used in a way that matches well with the jam theme,   that "3d, red and blue borders" effect that gets stronger with the bass of the music is dope and the UI looks good!

The only thing that i think could be changed is that the player stats take a bit too much screen space in my opinion.

Besides that, Congratulations, Perfect Game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing the game! :) There is an option to change the UI scale but I'm not to  happy with it because I feel like x2 is to big and x1 is to small. You can do x1.5 but then it looks weird :P I might have to redraw the sprites..

Submitted(+1)

The look and feel of this game is fantastic! Incredibly atmospheric!
Unfortunately I wasn't able to run it smoothly on my system with integrated GPU so I only explored very shortly for a bit.

Developer

Thanks! :) Yeah keeping good performance is hard in a jam game^^

Submitted(+1)

Holy moly! I love the aesthetics for this game. The GFX, FX, sounds, UI, are all on point. The aesthetics also solidify the mysteriousness in the game, and I really dig that. The difficulty is also something I can  appreciate, as I love a challenge, especially in a platformer!

I didn't play for very long, as I am trying to play more submissions, but this is one I will most definitely come back to.

Great work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing the game! I'm glad you liked it :)

i love the concept of this game! i wasn't able to figure out how to upgrade anything or figure out how to get dust and ore back to the main area though, but I imagine it changes the pace of the game quite a bit! I could see a tutorial of sorts, could be incredibly short even a cut scene showing what an exit looks like/how to get into the next area / how to get back to the start. at some points I'd clear an entire cave and not know what to do next.

I imagine not being able to return with my dust/ore is my own user error and not on you whatsoever, but again, I played for about an hour and couldn't figure it out. Perhaps consider making an intro as you continue to expand this game for dummies like me? if I knew what I was looking for i'd grind it out, but I'm a stumped boy!

would recommend! Keep up the good work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing the game :)  Yes a tutorial is really missing here. There is a door at the bottom of the dungeon where you can contine. You can see this in the gameplay video I put on the games page.

After clearing 3 dungeons you come to a save area where you can extract back to base and buy stuff. Though it was already mentioned by some other players that the 3rd dungeon is very hard. :P
(+2)

ohhh i see! i really enjoy what you have so far and i'd love to see you keep updating this!  this is the kind of thing I could grind for hours. throw in a little back story here and there and i'd take the bait. while I'm aware how difficult multiplayer is to pump out, I would plant the seed to make a co-op mode. cuz sheeeeeeshh i'd go down in the depths with the bois kekw. we tried to do our own gag with a light source but honestly, I like yours better! shoot to light up OP! we were gonna do glow sticks lol but ended up lighting up our cursor.
