In what way does your game fit the theme?
The plants and the player need each other to make it back to the surface. The player uses the plants to progress through the level and the plants will wither without the player nearby.

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
Our team did, yes

I really like the mechanic of finding new plants and using them to progress. Gives a nice Metroidvania feel to the game (which I am very much a fan of).

The Inventory menu can be a bit buggy, I managed to get it stuck in its closed state at one point, forcing me to restart. It would be nice if the menu was always open and if I could select and switch between plants using hotkeys instead of my mouse.

The dialogue text can be hard to read sometime, due to the font changing letter sizes frequently.

I also found this funny bug after dying, where my player was stuck in the tilted forward position for the rest of the game.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! I just made the inventory always stay open and our other programmer assigned hotkeys for plants. It's definitely an improvement lol.

I really enjoyed some of the technical aspects like the mouse pointer changing in game and the speech bubble which must trigger at certain point, I'm sure there is a lot more to it.  I also think this is the first platformer in the jam where you can jump up through the platforms.  I am definitely adding a custom mouse for my next game.

Great game. Really clever that you can jump onto the red projectile.

Really enjoyed it, even tho I've got a lot of bugs. I actually don't remember them all, here's some:

- When I respawned I rotated on the z axis.

- Flowers spawning inside the ground.

- The third flower stopped growing because I was near the top. (which by the way the speed it grew was a bit too slow)

Good job!

Great game guys! Encountered a few minor bugs (which have been mentioned by others below) but nothing big enough to take away from my enjoyment. Y'all created a really cool atmosphere and have a real good idea here. I really like the character and plant sprites. WELL Done! :D

My only complaint with the game was that the text was hard to read due to the font, but besides that, I feel you have an incredible idea here, if you were to polish the level and add more mechanics this can easily be the next celeste/hollow knight I really see the potential you have here.

Please come by and rate my game :)

Cool art and music,  enjoyed playing the game well done!

Submitted(+1)

that was pretty cool, but is there only 3 plants in the game? since i see 6 places for plants in the UI but i only found three before exiting the Well

Developer

maybe later we add some new ones 😁

thanks for your time and playing!

Cool idea guys! Well done :)

Developer

thanks to you for your time !!

Loved the pixel art style and music, but there didn't seem to be a way to get water for the plant at the beginning?  I stood above the water and pushed every button possible but nothing worked, so it ended up being a short one.  Any workaround for the water issue?

Developer

hm, that's so strange, we had an issue like that during testing but thought it was fixed. Was there no water below you when you spawned at first? Or was the water full but you couldn't plant anything?

Submitted(+1)

I wasn't able to plant anything.  Maybe it was a one time thing?  I'll give it another shot

Developer (1 edit)

we've had a bug before where your water instantly gets filled but you aren't able to plant anything and can't refill since you're already full. Thanks for giving it another shot, if it isn't too much trouble it would be great if you could send a screenshot if it happens again!

Ah I figured it out.  There doesn't seem to be a way to open the dropdown menu using the an gamepad/controller.  So I switched over to using mouse and keyboard and now the dropdown works.

Developer(+1)

ah yeah that's one of the things on our list to change, the mouse controls for the inventory was a relic from when the game was more of a slow-paced puzzle platformer game where you had to collect each seed, then plant it, then water it, etc. We ended up shifted away from that but didn't change the way you plant the seeds. Thanks for giving it another shot, appreciate the in depth feedback!

We loved the pixel art style and especially the character design. The idea with the flower was really cool and felt quite new in the way it was integrate in the jump and run mechanics.

The speech bubbles have been disappearing way too fast so we couldn't get the story haha.
All the best - the Wilma & Buddy Team

thanks for playing and your feedback! We unfortunately had other problems grabbing our attention so didn't have time to work on fine tuning the text boxes, definitely on our list of stuff to improve though! Your game looks cool, I'll check it out whenever I have time

I can really relate to that, I was busy fixing the important stuff till the very end too - so minor tweaks haven't made it in our jam version either.

Would be awesome, every play and feedback is very appreciated.  :)

Really great. Nice mechanics, ideas and level design, and the gameplay is very polished. I would love to see this game expanded upon after the jam. I really liked how every plant had multible uses, and every puzzle was fun to solve using the tools given. The game was very inituitive too, and apart from the controls, everything sort of just made sense without an explanation.

I did encounter a few bugs though, and the text boxes closed a little too fast i think. You probably already know, but in case you don't these are the bugs i found:

Being stuck below ground (near stairs)

Climbing-plant stopped growing prematurely.

Player character rotated slighty.

And a lot of seams when i moved around.                                                                                                                                             (This should help https://tiled2unity.readthedocs.io/en/latest/fixing-seams/)

thanks! Were gladd you have a good time! That’s all about! Thanks for your time

Developer(+1)

Thank you for sharing that link, I'll look into it! Yeah those seams were really bothering me lol

Great mechanic.

Nice job very fun and creative game, really like the interactions with the plants, the only problem I found is that we can get stuck below the ground and we cannot jump anymore.

Developer

ieap, we’re actually working in that! Thanks for your time!!!

I really enjoyed this game, although it was too hardcore for me. I guess the only 2 thing I could suggest is the ability to throw (instead of dropping the seeds) and and adding "coyote time" so you dont immediately fall of the ledge

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback!  There was actually both of those features in the game (if you plant a seed while jumping then it throws it forward but that could have been explained better), but we will definitely work on making them more noticeable and explained to the player. Which parts were the ones where did you feel that the coyote time wasn't enough?

Submitted(+1)

Wow great game! Really like the 2D platformer exploration with power-ups haha.

- One suggestion is addind a small jump, you can only jump the same height.

Overall Fun Game!

Submitted(+1)

Thanks for the play on mine. Loved the pixel animation on this. I got stuck in the ground at one point trying to climb up the ladder. Mechanics felt pretty solid though.

Submitted(+1)

I liked the art and the audio a lot. The idea was really fun too. It reminded me of Grow Up with how you collect and use plants to get around the environment. Maybe I missed something but I wish there was an easier way to throw seeds instead of clicking the inventory. I'm nitpicking though. Great job!

Developer

Yeap, we miss that too, because that in the final game we gonna have a key conifg menu :)

Thanks for your time and playing the well, hope you have a good time playing it, cheers and keep on rolling in the free world.

Very cool metroidvania. I like the multi purpse of the plants. The music is very cathy and sounds are also also well designed :)

The tiles edges showing sometimes is of course unfortunate. Something with the configuration of the (pixel perfect) camera

I had a bug where after my first death the character would respawn sligtly tilted to the side and would remain so for the rest of the game even after deaths. This happend on my both plays so maybe it's a feature and there's some meaning behind it :P

The vines when thrown on the ground would let me climb in the air over them, not sure if it's intended.

Developer(+1)

naw you're not alone in having those bugs! We are working on fixing those in the post-jam version. Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback!
