In what way does your game fit the theme?
It's about finding someone to help you defeat your inner demons.
You can't damage the enemies yourself and need to find the other character to kill them.

----------------------------------------------NOTE--------------------------------------
The last level (with 48 enemies) is a bit too hard so don't feel pressured into finishing it.
You'll only miss out on the last poem verse which you can read in the screenshots.
It is definetly doable with the right strategy (I can beat it on most tries) so if you're up for a challenge I left some tips for beating it in game description.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
All code written by me, assets too except for music.

It's a really good game. The art, music, gameplay and atmosphere are all superb and while it starts slow, turns into the most beautiful bullet hell game I've seen. Great entry as always :)

I did get stuck at a certain point however and couldn't progress further as there were still two demons left, but I couldn't find them anywhere.

Developer(+1)

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it :)

This can unfortunately happen sometimes when 2 demons get stuck together and fly around out of your reach. When that happens you can restart level with K or go back to menu with ESC

Great game, loved the feel of the game. It really feels you put your heart into it.

Thank you for sharing it :)

Developer

I definetly did

Thank you for playing my game :)

This was a really fantastic game. The art and music made a great atmosphere. The game was definitely on the challenging side but I think it's a great game especially for only working on it for a week. Awesome job!

Developer

Thank you very much :)

Glad you liked it

I overall liked this game. The best part is the story/poem and the games atmosphere. I found the game too difficult, especially because I see it more as a story driven game, then a challenging shooter game. I found a small bug that meant, that even though I have killed all the enemies the enemies number was not zero and I was there for able to continue.  But anyway is this a good jam game. Well done.

I'm glad you liked my game :)

When designing levels I remember thinking that I'm going to make them on the easier side so that everyone will be able to finish the game. That did not turn out so well :P

This is unfortunately a known issue that can happen sometimes when 2 or more enemies get stuck and push eachother circling around the level not getting closer to you. When that happens you may run around for a while and may find them eventually or press K to kill yourself and restart level or press ESC and go back to menu.

Really beautiful game, and not just in terms of visuals (though the visuals are also amazing looking). The symbolic imagery and deeper meaning of the game in general is something that I thought worked extremely well, with the really lovely poem backing up the attempts at making every mechanic not only cohesive to the game itself, but to the thematic elements as well. The difficulty was also something I found good for the most part, though the last level was a bit of an issue, mostly for when you had to walk into a dead end and got trapped, but I still stuck with it because I was really immersed into it. Along with that little issue with the difficulty I also must say that I found the player's walk animation to feel considerably lower quality than the rest of the artwork in the game, it just didn't feel quite the right speed and ended up being a bit awkward looking. Even with these small points though, I really loved this one.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you! It warms my heart to see someone appreciate the meaning of the game and the thought behind it :)

A game with a lot of feeling is tough in a short game jam. But between the character design, music, and text, there was great atmosphere. It could get a little hard or frustrating sometimes but nothing horrible. Great job!

Developer

Thank you. I'm glad to know you liked my game :)

Let's just assume that that the difficulty is overtuned on purpose so the player can better experience the struggles of the main charcter :P

wow just wow! The Atmosphere is just amazing. As Mark said the message in the game is really good also the music is on point. It fits the theme very well!

Thank you for making this lovely game!

Developer

Thank you very much <3 It means a lot

Submitted(+1)

Absolutely lovely game. I really enjoyed atmosphere, the message . The enemies spawn sound, with headphones, really seem to be scratching in your head. This is one of the few games on the jam that actually pulled me in and immersed me in the experience. The build up of mechanics is also very well done including their introduction.

I only have two complaints, and they are both visually, the footstep animation is not really synced up with the movement speed and I would have loved if there where a few more sprites for rotational stances, so that the character could "look" in the direction of the mouse cursor. But that is all, love it.

Developer

Oh hi Mark

Thank you for the nice words. It means a lot to see people appreciate also the artisitic side and meaning of the game <3 (even in spite of my programmer-art).

Making the player look towards the cursor is something I could definetly see myself doing, though I didn't really consider it given the time constraints.

Submitted(+1)

Cuts need to be made due to time constraints, totally get that. And never be ashamed of programmer art! That stuff is magic on its own.

Submitted(+1)

Great atmosphere all around
Loved the demons' designs, the animations and sound design

Same as most people, I couldn't get past lvl4
Still enjoyed it and could feel the jam's theme very strongly
Good job!

Developer

Thank you for the nice feedback. I'm happy to know you enjoyed my game :)

But which level do you mean by 4?

The last level is too difficult (level 9) with 7 and 8 being rather hard but manageable. The fourth level is the one with 4 enemies which is basically just a tutorial teaching you the shooting mechanics...

Submitted(+1)

Can't remember right now 🤔
It was the one that introduced the "mind clearing" feature

Developer (1 edit)

No problem, this should be level 7.

I'm just concerned because I heard some people having issues with levels loading in a wrong order but I can't replicate it :C

Great game! it was very hard at lvl5. lvl 4 was hard enough lol. rly kewl graphics! I love the art style!

the environment is rly well designed and reminds me of btp(blackthornprod)

It was hard at level 4,

God knows I just tried  but no,

Demons crawled to me to play

They just found another way

Engaging atmosphere and story.

It was fun!:)

Developer(+1)

Haha, I'm glad you liked it.

Did you really heave trouble at 4th level? (the one where you can first shoot)

You can approach it in many ways, easiest being to bait the enemies to come closer to the edge of the broader section and go around them. It's meant to teach the player that your shots only push back enemies and they need the other character to kill them.

Oh, Filtrax, I've probably mixed up something, it was late on yesterday stream, i don't quite remember the number, I mean that one where i really tried and we read the poem on the menu in the end!

Developer(+1)

Oh right, I didn't recognize it's you :P

You made it to the last level (level 9) which is as far as anyone who didn't design the game could go XD

I appreciate you actually trying to finish the games you check out.

a nice little game. The atmosphere is nice, the decor is nice and the controls are fluid. I really like the design of the enemies. The player is very well guided at the beginning and the game is mastered very quickly.

Well done!

Developer

Thanks Aurelie

I'm glad to hear you liked my game :)

Love the atmosphere you have created, the art of the enemies is pretty cool and all the detailed animations makes a diference. Great Job!

Developer

Thank you!

I had fun animating my programmer-art characters :)

Submitted(+1)

Wow, good job dude! At first I had a hard time because I thought I couldn't kill the enemies, I would suggest making an animation for the enemys showing that they got hit, because I thought my projectils were just supposed to push them away. But once I find the second character I was like "Oh hell yeah here we go, now let's see who kills who!". I also found amazing that the timing of the bullets made them sound like a heartbeat.

I found a little issue with the audio in case you wanna fix it, if you change the volume settings and go back to the main menu they reset to their original values.

Keep up the good work! :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much! I'm glad you had fun playing :)

Yes, the white bullets only push enemies away and the pink ones deal damage :)

Submitted(+1)

And I was there trying to kill everyone with the white bullets! Seems like you're not the only one paying the price of putting the sleeping hours into making games :) Good invested tho, well done!

Beautiful game although I find it a little bit anticlimatic. But other aspects were definitely beautiful. Especially the music and the poems. ^^

Developer

I'm glad you liked it :)

Do you mean that the ending is anticlimactic?

Submitted(+1)

The writing, graphics, and music all blend together very well. Very creative to tie your poem in with the game mechanics - using writing like that is not easy. The shooting mechanic is also fun to play around with, and I like how you gradually introduce different game mechanics to keep the game interesting.

One thing I would have liked to see more audio feedback for the shooting and for when enemies die. Since the later levels have lots of enemies, they tend to group up, and I think it'd be a lot more satisfying to mow them all down if there was a death sound effect. I also think the later levels should be a little more forgiving, as you only have one life and the enemies ramp up in numbers quickly,

Very enjoyable experience overall, and I'm glad I came across this game. Great job!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you very much for the kind feedback. I'm glad you liked it.

The monsters do have a death sound effect, it's just that it's the normal sound they make from time to time but louder :P So you hear more growling when killing them

Submitted(+1)

Awesome job, the game was fun and honestly a bit stressful at first trying to sneak around the enemies.

Thank you, glad you liked it
