Nice game! I got stuck on level 5

The visuals are really simple and nice, with a good color scheme. The game plays smoothly, and it's a wonder to play, with satisfying screen shakes and audio queues.

The lack of music is a bit off-putting, but it is not much. The fact that the turrets only aim at 45 degree intervals can make aiming mildly annoying, and solutions to levels feel more like guess-and-check rather than finding a good solution. If there were a little bit more options to shoot the turrets, or have more variety in what combining turrets do, this would be really good. Good job though!

I really enjoyed your game, I really like the visuals

A fun mix of tower defense and puzzle, really interesting take on the theme. It was fun to trial and error what worked and what didn't. My only very small critique was that most levels I did not feel the need to stack turrets on top of each other but maybe that was just the solutions I was coming up with and not intended solutions. Regardless still a lot of fun and well polished. The fact that bullets all fire at the same rate made for some cool puzzles.

I love TD games! It's a clever and innovative gameplay. Each level is challenging. Stacking the towers together is not enough to win the game. Positioning and direction also matter. I enjoy the game so much! Wish there were more type of towers. TD games need more type of towers! Great job!

Please also check out our game ;)

I saw Seth Funk stream this on youtube and It definitely got me hooked up. It really is amazing! Nice work! :)

Cool idea, glad I had you on stream for tips haha.

I've beaten all the levels! As one sage of Mount Ju once said *Thank you so much for including a windowed version*. The best thing I like about your game that it has different solutions, it's always fun to figure out how to beat a game non-intended way. Although, the lack of music is a little bit disheartening, a lil techno would shoot the vibe of the game to the singularity age. The art is simple and well-done, symmetrical just like a solution to one of the levels.

Also, the game definetely needs more mechanics or utilize the old ones more. The idea of upgradeable turrets? Me very likey, but it's only essential in a few levels. The puzzles are fair and engaging, as a person who would dash right to a manual as a child everytime he discovered that to progress further he hard to solve some mystical push boxes there, pull a lever there... they were pretty fun! Though you still had given me a few hints to facilitate the process:). Good job, the grand maestro of reviews Mariothedog!

This was a fun game to watch on stream and figure out the levels with the chat. The stacking mechanism fit the theme well but didn’t seem to be required to beat many of the levels. Limiting the number of open squares might lead the player to use the stacking mechanism more.

Great strategic game.

Very simplistic, fits the theme, game feel on point, the graphics could definitely improve, although that obviously wasn't the point of the game from the start. The puzzles later become more random, which I don't really like, I would rather like puzzles purely about positioning without any real random aspect. Good job overall!

I 100% agree. All the RNG involved in this game is just a bug and that should hopefully be fixed in the post-jam version when it’s redesigned to make it fully deterministic

Great game. Clearly a lot of thought went into it.

Fun game, got me tilted which a good sign!  I think it work really well as a rhythm game!  Different music for every level depending on the speed.  Can't wait to see where you go from here.

I enjoyed the clever twist on the tower defense genre! Initially I solved them by thinking 'what would be the most efficient placement for this tower' in terms of coverage of tiles, but later on the puzzles became more about timing. The simple graphics are nice and I enjoyed listening to the music! One thing is that I would make more puzzles that elaborate on the theme, more that require you to stack the towers rather than play around with the timing. Also, I don't know what to do about the Rng bug with the squares but it wasn't game-breaking, if one square got loose I would just press play again. Otherwise it was very enjoyable! Thanks for showing up to the stream earlier!

Thank you for the detailed feedback! :)

I enjoyed listening to the music!

Haha, are you sure that wasn’t just music you had playing outside of the game? The game doesn’t actually have any music! I was planning on making some music (and I actually did) but it sucked and I didn’t want to have to force players to endure it

I completely agree! I noticed this myself while developing the game

It’s game-breaking to me ;) Some people weren’t aware of the bug so they assume that the game is just broken which doesn’t look great in a game jam setting. I plan on making the game turn-based (to a degree) to eliminate this issue (another streamer actually suggested this)

Thanks for showing up to the stream earlier!

No problem! I had fun :)

oh my gosh that's embarrassing, yes it must have been my background music. I like listening to 8-bit music but i just assumed it was part of the game since the graphics are pixelated. Turn based mechanics sound interesting, I'd be happy to play test them if you want.

Really clever tower defense game, great work. I like the simplistic art approach also!

Good work.

[Edited to remove potential spoilers/solutions for the game]

Took a while but was able to beat it:

Super fun game. I initially thought it was going to be the usual tower defense game, but found it to be more of a puzzle which I immensely enjoyed. Some of my experience during the game:

  • Level 4 starts to get you thinking
  • Level 6 was awesome
  • Level 7 was awesome
  • Don't laugh, but I was trying to beat level 8 with 4 turrets, not realizing I had 2 guns still available to me
  • Level 10 was fantastic as the final level
  • Loved the congrats screen still being another level

The graphic design to me was superb; clean, simple, and effective. Only suggestion would be to somehow differentiate the red squares, as I found myself constantly trying to track a square during a run to see which specific square I wasn't shooting. I initially thought having them numbered, or using different colors, but in the end I think this might ruin the simplicity of the graphic design, which again I really liked.

Again, I think the game design was top notch for a puzzle game. Level design was on point. I wish stacked turrets was needed more, but the fact that you created 10 enjoyable puzzles is quite a feat (at least for me, I think designing puzzle-based games is a difficult endeavor). Mechanically the game worked 98% of the time. There were some runs where if repeated, the outcome would change up (e.g., a red square that would get shot by a turret in an initial run, would reach the end in a later run). This was infrequent, but was noticeable. Not sure how this bug would be fixed programmatically (tighter box colliders maybe?), or even if this is a bug at all. Based on ArithMetic's comment below (where they couldn't duplicate your video solution), it potentially might be an issue. Let me know what you think.

I spent a lot of time playing this game, and enjoyed every moment of it.

If you happen to have someone to play a local co-op with, I'd love for you to try out my game:

You appear to provide very constructive feedback, and I think it's something that could help improve my game design and development in the future.

Thank you so much for putting so much effort into your feedback! It’s really valuable :)

Yep, that’s definitely a bug. It’s actually noted in the description (the game isn’t fully deterministic). I’m not entirely sure what causes it since there are loads of things that could be causing it: inconsistent fps, floating point precision issues, etc. I plan on fixing this after the jam though by making it turn-based (someone else suggested this).

I’ll definitely be sure to play your game :) I don’t have someone to play with but I’ll find a way to make it work!

Hey, left some feedback on your game. I hope it’s helpful :)

its kinda TD puzzle game, but feels like you need to check the timings and experiment more then actually solving puzzles using your brain or smth. Quiet fun overall, sound and visuals are very simple but kinda feels solid. nice job!

Nice game! I got stuck on level 5. I like it . The puzzles are very good and it is very fun to play! I like the simplistic art. I think the only things missing is music but except that the game is very good! Good job! I would also appreciate if you check out my game! Thanks :D

Great game! Quite challenging (in a good way) and kept me hooked. Simple, sleek, easy to figure out but hard to master. Nothing major to change imo!

Improvements wise, maybe some background music, and a menu? Turret upgrades would be awesome too but will complicate the game a lot more.

I got to level 4 so don't know if the future levels implement this but a different background or something could add a nice change but that's just opinion :)

Can see this being mobile friendly too! Maybe a few more hints may help when the player fails a level.

Overall, excellent work! I have lots of lessons to learn :)

The levels all have the same background but that is a good suggestion. Thanks for the detailed feedback :)
