Nice! I enjoyed the concept and execution of it. I saw that you didn't get to add sound, which is alright, I wasn't able to either my first jam, I won't hold it against you.

If you wanted to keep building, some sort of score or "time survived" timer would be nice so people could compete for high scores. Making more levels where you only have to survive for so long could be cool too, slowly making the ship more and more complex. I also feel that this game has potential to be a party game with many players running around trying to keep terminals on.

Overall, quality entry! Good luck on your future game dev!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

And I like the expansion suggestions, thank you!

Oh I feel myself so stupid, I was so bad at game and died so many times until I realized that I can smash enemies easily (I guess I got used to the fact that usually the player is the one who is crushed from touching others). Once I realized that, the game turned from nice  to really good!

If you ever considered to expand the game, then more enemy types/obstacles/abilities will surely add even more fun to a game. Although, I might admit that it already is enjoyable.

The art is cool too, and that's why I think I would prefer if you showed the actual screenshot from the game on your thumbnail. I think it could've attracted more people to play your game (my subjective opinion). But anyways, continue making games, it was good!

P.s. does the game have sounds? I didn't have them but probably it was just my PC

Developer(+1)

Ah, I'm sorry you had such trouble, but thanks for sticking through it to figure it out. I know the onboarding is not very good.
Thank you for the kind words regarding the art, and also for the suggestion about the thumbnail; that's valuable insight.
And no, it's not your PC, I unfortunately didn't get around to implementing sound.

Thanks for the valuable feedback, and of course, thanks for playing! :D

Oh I see, then I can imagine the game being even better with proper sound design etc. :)

Developer(+1)

I can imagine that as well, haha

Nice work! I enjoyed this. Kudos on completing a project within the jam!

I see from the other comments that this was your first time making art for a game—you should be proud, because it turned out really well! The presentation really makes this. I love the star field and how hectic it gets, literally spiraling out of control. The bouncing enemies and their happy expressions are so cute that I felt bad about squashing them. Not so "peaceful," space-person!

As another person pointed out, you did a good job at pacing the gradual increase in enemies. It builds nicely. I wished for more feedback about how I was doing, though. Perhaps a count onscreen of how many terminals are out, e.g. 3/10 => 4/10 => 5/10 etc. Without something like that constantly going up, I didn't get a strong sense of increasing danger, even with the additional enemies, fires, and spiraling stars. Eventually I just left the game alone for a while to see if there was actually a fail state (which there is, and it's very cinematic—nice). So I don't think the feeling of being overrun is quite there.

Sound would really help create that tension as well. In fact, your game's description is a bit of a tease because it says "when suddenly you hear a noise" but then you start the game and...no sound, haha. Another thing that would help is to add a little mechanical complexity to reactivating the terminals. But all in all you did a great job at realizing the concept in the time allowed.

Loved the coffee machine. Just let me press a button in front of it to play a coffee-brewing or -pouring sound—that's instant gold.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! ^_^

And thank you for the insightful feedback. That's a really good point that the fail state is not clear, and it lessens the feeling of being overrun. That was my main goal with this game, as that was the interpretation of the theme that I wanted to focus on. So I appreciate your thoughts and suggestions. :D

Taking on the art for this jam left me with even less time to get to the sound, which is a shame. So yeah, I 100% agree sound would make it better, haha.

Thank you for all the great feedback, I really appreciate it!

Very cool game! The game made me feel as if I was in the situation of the game itself! Though I've seen games similar to your concept where you have to run around the environment, your approach was enjoyable. I think it would've been better if there was a score bar that showed you how many aliens you've vanquished. Other than that, you did great work!

Developer

Thanks!

I wasn't exactly sure what or even if I should have some scoring mechanism, but it's a good suggestion

These little aliens are way too cute :D.

awesome game and you also did a good job balancing the player and alien speed.
What took the most time to make in this game?

Developer(+1)

Thank you, haha ^_^

Good question. Hmm, no one thing in particular took the most time.

However, I probably spent a disproportionate amount of time creating the main character and the aliens with their animations, since this is the first time I've made art for a game. So I'm especially glad you liked the art, haha

Cool! I think this game would be a great local multiplayer!

Developer

Yeah, I was thinking of that too :D

I obviously didn't have time to consider implementing it, but I may try it in a post-jam version

Took me a while to understand what was going on but i think if you add some sort of time that i have to stay alive it would be more fun. also maybe a basic tutorial. otherwise very fun.

Developer

Yeah, sorry, tutorials are often one of the last things added with such a short timeline. I tried to make it as intuitive as possible, but that only goes so far in a game jam.

Having time as a goal could be a good game mode. :D

I enjoyed the character animations a lot! Great job with it! I wish there was a sound that played when I squished an alien. I think it would have made it feel a lot more satisfying as the animation was really satisfying to watch. Overall, great job making the game.

Developer

I wish there was sound as well, haha. The squish would be a good sound effect.

Also, I'm happy you liked the animations, this is the first game I've done any 2D art for

Really fun game, I enjoyed playing it.

Thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
