How does the game fit the theme?
To get the intended experience, please download the game. The web build features very blurred pixelated textures.
Evil Is Entertained is a game show that takes place in an alternate reality; one where monsters tune in every week to watch an episode of riveting TV. The events taking place in this reality are strange: the monsters breaking into houses to scare humans; the audience on the other side of the cameras watching in joy; and the gamification of such a bizarre event.
What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
Most assets I used, including all 3D models, were downloaded from online resources such as itch.io and quaternius.

Great concept. The whole idea is amazing. Great job!!
When I read your game description, what came to mind was the movie Late Night with the Devil.
But this is even better! In the human world, we have paranormal shows which humans obviously love to watch. It's interesting to see it the other way around.
It wasn't obvious what we need to do to entertain the audience. I imagine it to be similar to the game "Haunt the House: Terrortown"
Still, an interesting idea. Well done!

This was fun! i loved the premise of the game, messing around with the humans routine. It was silly and very charming, really enjoyoed this!
The idea for the game is really really cool!
I got stuck on the first section a bit - it's seem like the only interactable element at the bottom floor is the toilet paper? And when I tried to climb up top I got caught, even if the human was in the kitcen and I climbed the left most flooe. I than tried to hide in the closet until the human goes to the toilet, but than I got a weird (but very funny) bug where the trident could walk around the house! I couldn't get out of this state
Stealth gameplay is tricky, so I think making everything more predictable could help - maybe a cone of sight for the human?
Anyway, very cool work!
Awee that's really cool seeing a modern Neighbours from Hell homage :D Just needs a bit of work, a bit rough around the edges like the closet glitch xD Really good work though!
Love the idea, such a funny concept. I wish there were a few more places to hide - trying to make noise with the TV got me caught like 90% of the time. Also I couldn't figure out what to do with some items - eg the bookana, was I meant to put it somewhere? Overall really liked this entry and so impressed that you made it as a solo dev! :)
thank you for the thoughtful review! the idea of certain objects making noises was one that i REALLY wanted from the start, but also one that was very difficult to implement and that i did not have any time to figure out what to do with after it was there. in hindsight, perhaps it should not have been a feature at all lmao. i think looking at your review and some of the others, the couch probably should've been another hiding spot, seeing as the levels were pretty hard. as for the bookana, it's supposed to be placed in the shelf in the hallway, but i can definitely see why you would be lost. the game doesn't really tell you much.
I really liked your entry, both for the humorous vibe and the game idea. The audio was cool as well as the art style. My problem is that I didn't understand how to play the game. I tried to do the things that were suggested, but every time I lost.
yeah sadly, it does seem like the lack of a tutorial or such is most people's biggest issue with the game. thanks for giving it a try either way!
Haha this was funny. I enjoyed the concept a lot. I kept getting caught lol I make a bad demon. I thought the controls was a little difficult to navigate but otherwise this was a fun and creative game.
means alot to hear this from someone who made a game that i also really enjoyed!
I like the gameplay and visuals good job.
thank you :D
I feel bad for our human victim. It must be so hard to live in this cruel world when even a disappearing banana freaks you out so much! xD
Jokes apart, You surprised me in a good way. Seeing a Neighbours from Hell homage as a jam entry made me smile! Sometimes, I can't understand the logic of what has to be done, turning the puzzle gameplay into a pixel hunting experience (like... Bookana? Seriously?) but generally I can live with that. What makes me concerned much more is the pixelated filter you used. It really hurts both the graphics and my eyes. Your models look good, so there's no need to blur them :)
Still, I really enjoyed playing your game! Thank you for sharing it with me. Even though there's still a lot to be done polish wise, for me, it's one of the most memorable submissions thus far.
P.S. On the second thought, I take back my words that I feel bad about the human. A person who goes to THE COMPUTER when their current routine task is "Use the toilet" deserves everything that happens to them.
neighbours from hell was genuinely my entire childhood! i'm so glad i was able to remind you of it. i think if i could rework the game, i'd add some more instructions on what to do and how to do it as it seems the help text did not offer enough help. as for the pixelated art style, it works for some and doesn't for others ;) thanks for playing, i really appreciated your review.
never played a game like this before, its kinda difficult at first but very entertaining once you get the hang of it! nice soundtrack and visuals also :D
thank you! :)
Interesting concept. It was a bit hard to understand how I was supposed to interact with the items but I eventually won.
yeah i would say that was definitely my biggest issue with the game when testing it out (after the buggy human AI, took some time to fix) but ran out of time to improve it any more. thanks for checking the game out!
I really like the concept and the visuals! Great work!
thank you :)
Very nice game and a lot of cool visuals for a single dev! Really liked the new approach of the theme :)
thank you, i'm glad you had fun :D
I really love this idea. It’s such a unique take on the theme, and it fits “Strange Places” perfectly. The UI was honestly very well done. It felt polished, and the in-game how-to-play was super helpful.
Switching perspectives was also very well executed. It didn’t feel clunky, and I really liked how the boy’s current and upcoming routine was communicated. That was a smart design decision because it let me plan without constantly jumping back and forth just to check.
Overall, really strong execution on a creative concept. You clearly put thought into both the mechanics and presentation. Great job on this one.
thank you for leaving such a thoughtful review! it's a little funny but this makes realize how important playtesting is for games; most of the things you noticed are things that i worked on and revised after i got a friend to test out the game! thanks again for your kind words
Great game! The setting of it being a tv show is really fun. The whole thing reminded me a lot of Monsters Inc which is a good thing. Great gameplay and art. Nice job!
THAT WAS THE INSPIRATION!!!! thank you so much, you have no idea how happy it makes me to see the thought behind my project be reflected in its outcome.
Really cool concept the visuals were amazing too loved the style, I did have a few issues with being stuck on the bike a lot even when restarting the level and i don't know if it was intentional but you could stay hidden through the whole game if you hide but dont click exit and click away instead but overall great job :)
i'm unsure which version you played, but the bicycle bug should be fixed in the downloadable version. i did add some more safeguards to prevent the player from getting stuck, and hopefully that should fix the problem! hiding bug is also fixed now. thank you for letting me know and i'm really glad you enjoyed :)
Really cool concept, I enjoyed playing it!
thanks for giving it a shot ;)
I love the art direction here. Cute and crunchy!
thank you. i'm glad i was able to communicate the vibe through the art design!
Really cool idea and the visuals are very polished. A bug I've encountered is that I could still walk around and pickup items while hidden inside the closet.
thank you so much for the kind words. yeah i woke up to many people reporting the bug, should be fixed now :)
