Nice game with little story of how a cat sees the world when goes out at night hahahaha. I found the altar of your cat, i just hope its not a gaveyard because i almost cried T^T

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed the cat's night adventures! The altar is a small tribute to a cat I had for 20 years. I’m actually really happy you found it. Please don’t feel sad, she lived a long, full, and very happy life.

Super cute game. Bonus point for kitty pic.

Yeah, I think you already got some comments about some of the platforms and the cat getting attached to the wall and I'm not sure if they are intended. They are just a small issue, though, it's simple enough to play and very fun. I liked it.

Developer

Thanks for playing :) glad you liked my kitty pic <3

The platforms and wall sticking as you said was mentioned by other players, something I didn't think much of during development but now it's obvious how much of an improvement can be made there. Thanks for bringing it up, even though it was already said, this just shows how important it is to get this fixed!

This was cute and fun. I loved the perspective at the start, where the cat's house is a plaformer! And I had fun knocking things over in the house.

I only got as far as returning the manual to the cat-o-matic, but I couldn't figure out what to do. I don't know if there was a bug, or the thing with the dish wasn't the cat-o-matic. Throughout the game I found I didn't really know where to go, so I went back to areas a few times not knowing what was meant to happen. I don't know why a pillow(?) fell out a bookcase at one point, and then I didn't know I was meant to give that pillow to another bookcase(?) to open it up.

The platforms I faced were also quite similar throughout, mostly edges with ledges that you had to jump up and around. I think if they were in different formations it would be more engaging.

I also had an audio bug at one point in the bookcase area where the background music just stopped playing, but it came back when I went outside.

I liked most of the animations, but the 'squeeze through gaps' could do with one rather than just clipping to the other side.

For all of it's quirks and lack of polish, I quite liked this game. Well done!

PS The cat also hangs on to walls. If that's intended behaviour then that's fine (though maybe also allow wall jump!), but if not you can fix it by adding a physics material to the cat gameobject that has friction = 0 (rather than the default 0.5).

Thank you so much for the detailed feedback, I really appreciate you taking the time to write this!

I tried to make the objectives more clear, by adding the "objective" text on top and added lights on objective items, but there's always room for improvements, and I had other ideas about it too but ran out of time, and of-course since it's a puzzle game I didn't want to give away too much in the objective. The "pillow" is actually a red book :D and the other bookcase has a books sorted by color and a red one is missing, giving a clue about the puzzle. The issue with this is only after submitting I saw on the web version the books are layered behind the bookshelf so it's not as obvious as I wanted it to be.

The stairs jumping also has a lot of room for improvements, for example not having collision from the bottom side.

The music in the library is a feature, but someone else also interpreted it as bug. First off music is supposed to fade out and not immediately stop, and the library level is supposed to start quiet (as it is), and then when you turn it on (via the lever) it's supposed to become "alive" and the music to start. When it's alive, it will always have music.

I didn't think about adding a squeeze-through animation, but yeah that will make it feel better.

thanks for playing and super happy that you enjoyed the game! and thanks for the super helpful tip on the wall sticking, I didn't think about it much when testing although obviously I did notice it, and was eventually going to look into it, and your tip goes a long way into fixing that.

Thanks again for the detailed feedback!

lovely game, especially enjoyed that i was able to destroy everything in the house in typical cat behaviour. it's a very chill and nice jam game! i forgot to check it after the cat got it's box, but does the grey thingy on the bottom left corner does anything or it's just a remainder of a mechanic you didn't have time to implement?

Developer

Thank you! The house was built to be destroyed, so glad you enjoyed that :) as for the thing in the left corner, I am I’m not entirely sure which one you mean but there is an easter egg hidden in that general area, so it might be that if you feel like exploring again (no objectives required)!

Very cool game, nice artstyle and overall cozy vibe. Very cool!

Developer

Thanks so much!! Happy to hear that you liked it!

Loved the detail where the cat knocks things over as it passes by, so cute! Though some places are a bit difficult, e.g, walls that required double jump to get past (or maybe it's just that I'm suck at controls), but overall a cute game!

Developer

Thanks for playing! Glad you liked the little knock-over detail! Appreciate the climbing and jumping feedback too, some people have also pointed that out, and it definitely can be improved, by let's say not having collision from the bottom of stairs and not getting stuck on walls :)

this is the cutest short game ever and as a cat owner, extremely accurate, my cat would often talk to cat wizard at night and restore our house's power too

also i LOVE how E is just "meow button," well done!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed my game and that I kept it accurate :) and the meow button was non-negotiable!

Really cute!!! loved how the camera zoomed in on the cat when you dont press anything for a bit. Could have benefitted from some sprites that go better together, and some of the player controller/collision physics can get annoying at times (e.g. sticking to walls), but I still had a great time with this game!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you!! I’m really glad you noticed the idle zoom, you're the first to mention it, and there's also an idle animation if you wait a bit longer. Appreciate the collision feedback too, some people have also pointed that out, I didn't think much of it during development/play-through but it's definitely annoying and can be improved.

Man this was so cute. fun to play and well put together. I like that you can break stuff lol My only critique is I don't like the ladder platforming. especially when you stick to the walls. Feels a little awkward. Something I'm sure you could polish out if you had more than a week! lol I also had a weird audio issue where I had no music in the right house until I found the lever. Nice touch adding your own kitty in there lol

Developer (2 edits)

Thanks for playing and glad you liked the game. I appreciate the feedback for the platforming and wall sticking, someone else also pointed that out and it definitely can be improved, I just didn't think about it much during development. As for the no-music in the library, that was 100% intentional, with the idea being the library gets "activated" and alive, so the player knows they can continue upwards, otherwise it just felt like a lever was pressed and nothing happened :)

Just saw that you found my kitty picture :) so happy you made it there, it's something small I did for my cat that I grew up with.

This is very cute! The way the cat can knock everything to the ground in the house is a great touch. The movement generally felt good and the game was a nice length. Nice job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much!! Knocking everything over was absolutely essential cat design. Glad you liked the game!

I love the game and the story! The only thing that was very uncomfortable for me was the platforms shaped as ladders, if the colission was only from above and not underneath, you could climb them easier. it was a hard time for me going quickly right/left/right while pressing the spacebar just to do something like climbing a ladder. That is the ONLY but I have.

Loved crashing stuff just because, no reason or purpouse. And the all the mystery just to lay on a box at the end was super funny. Loved it :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! That ladder collision feedback is super helpful, in fact I played some other game where it was working exactly as you described and I thought to myself how I can improve mine, so I see exactly what you mean. Thanks for the feedback. And yes, breaking things was absolutely encouraged cat behavior and glad you liked the ending

Submitted

this is awesome, a full-blown mystery puzzle with dialogue boxes.

Developer

Glad you liked it, thanks for playing!

Submitted

i wish i was that cat,, jokes aside nice game :D

Developer(+1)

Honestly, no responsibilities and a great box to sleep in, who wouldn't like that :D anyway, thanks for playing

Submitted

I don't know if it was intentional but I liked being able to stick to walls. Got a little confused with the objectives because I grabbed the items out of order. Overall it was fun though, nice work.

Developer

Thanks for playing, glad you had fun! The wall sticking was a known "feature", and I almost added objective order checks but ran out of jam time. Appreciate the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

What an absolutely adorable little game! I really vibed to the kitty’s animation outside during the lounge music segment. The hitboxes were a little wonky but who wouldn’t love to get a cat in a box, no matter the cost.

Lovely submission! Check out my game if you want!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing, so glad you enjoyed the game and thanks for the feedback.

Lol, if a cat’s life wasn’t strange enough xD Awesome game!

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it! Normal is not really a cat setting

Submitted(+1)

Even witches need their cat toys was such a cute line haha

Great little platformer! Your understanding of cats and what they're after clearly comes from experience - any cat would be lucky to be yours~~

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much, that really means a lot. I grew up with a cat in the house so I had a lot of years to study cat priorities

Submitted

Congratulations on your work. It's a really cute and surprising game, seeing everything the cat does to get a good cardboard box.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! All that effort for the perfect cardboard box is worth it

Submitted

Am I insane, how do I bring the manual to the cat-o-matic

Developer

Thanks for playing, you were so close to getting the reward for your cat. If you want to give it another go the manual is the last item you unlock in the library, near where an exit path is revealed. So just pick it up and drop it to the cat-o-meowtic with the E key, and the reward is spawned next to the machine

Submitted

Box acquired. Bonus points for the cat being able to knock everything off the tables!

This game has a really cute and chill vibe, I really enjoyed it.

Developer

Thanks for playing! The object-pushing was one of the first features I built purely for cat accuracy, totally unnecessary for progression :)
