How does the game fit the theme?
You set out on a dangerous journey across the alaskan wilderness to retrieve valuable biscuits for your community.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
colour palette, a couple of sound effects, font, crt shader.
not the music, nor the art tho :)
also proudly made without ai and without any useful dialogue manager or graph plugins lmao that would've saved a lot of time lmao

This is really incredible! One of the most polished games of this jam by far! It's very impressive how you managed to write this whole story with multiple encounters (and some you can miss from what I've see), that is also affected by your equipment! Having a character creator of sorts at the start is insane! Really great job on the UI and pixel art, it all feels so well done and fits the aesthetic perfectly, even the mouse cursor having it's own sprite is awesome! Game was fairly simple but also fun which is exactly what you want from a jam game! I'm really taken away from how polished this is, I would not bat an eye if this was a full release game yet it's made for a jam. Just seriously great work!

Thank you so so much for the kind words. We appreciate it a lot, especially coming from someone with such a well-crafted game themselves!

We put a lot of effort into polishing the game and are very happy it shows!

Fun fact, the custom cursor was added 5 min before submission :D

That was an interesting text based rpg. I'm actually surprised how much I was invested. Normally, I don't play or take interest in games of this genre. You did a great job here!

Developer

Thank you!

It's always a bit hit and miss with text-heavy games, so glad you liked it!

I've always loved the idea of this type of game!

On playing - I've realised I'm not a fast reader - but that doesn't detract from how polished this game is! I love the detail of choosing your guy at the beginning :D

Developer

Haha, thank you! Text-based games aren't for everyone, and we tried to keep it as short and concise as possible without sacrificing atmosphere/storytelling for the game jam.

Since the overall game flow is simple, we had enough time to focus on the polish :)

Loved the arr style

Developer

Thank you <3

Good luck in game jam

Developer

Thank you! Good luck to you too!

Love your arts ! The sfx are well placed and chosen with care ! GG

Developer

Thank you <3

Your art is impressive. it was my first time playing a visual novel game and I loved it.. Great job.

Developer

Thank you! Glad you liked your first try of the genre :)

The art style is beautiful, a fantastic visual novel. I wish it was longer (of course, with such a short time in a jam, I get why it isn't). The sound effects and music were great for atmosphere.

I am not sure if my browser messed something up, but the art was pretty far to the right. I felt like I was missing half of the image, but no knocks to you; I think that was a problem on my end. really fun!!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the nice words!

Yeah, we would've liked to write more encounters, but in the end we focused on polish over quantity.

Sucks to hear about the resolution, which device did you play on?

Very cool idea for a game. Great use of the theme. The waltzy music was great, and it fit the Russian-theme nicely; I love the Papers Please nostalgia.

To be perfectly honest, I found the game a bit too easy. I made it through on my first attempt. Tried again with different skills and items and made it through again, just fine. Too much challenge can be a problem in a game jam game, so I understand the issue of balance (I personally suck at it), but things felt a little too easy IMO.

Still, very cool submission.

Developer

Thank you! Papers please was the vibe we were going for, so happy it clicked for some people :)

Yeah, we would've liked to make it a bit longer and more challenging, but in the end it needs to not be frustrating either for a jam as you said.

I really loved the art style and the theme of the game. It's fun as well with the multiple choices. However, there was so much text for me (I read everything) that made not to engage with the game. I liked it though!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words!

Yeah, we figured the reading wouldn't be for everyone. Still glad you found it fun!

I really loved the art style for this game, the tv blur really made the art fit well with the overall game. Dialogue and choose your adventure games aren't always my first choice but I enjoyed playing this one. Its definitely a lot darker of a story than other games in the game which was come across.

Developer

thank you, glad you liked it!
yeah, text-based games aren't for everyone, so we hoped to convince some people thru vibe :D

I love the pixel art visuals and music. I liked that I can choose multiple choices but there are quite a lot of text for me :D And of course I had to play with Bob

Developer

thank you! we put a lot of work into it, particularly the pixel art :)

i think in a full game we would make the text blocks a bit shorter so t here's more clicking and deciding between all the reading.

and of course you had to play bob :-P

Submitted(+1)

Ahhh I love the vibe! Nicely done, just one complain is too many text for me as a non English speaker 😆😆

Developer

Thank you!

Yeah we were considering reducing the text a bit but thought you know, if we do something like a graphic novel we might as well have some longer encounters :D

Love the world building and humor; the ending is great too; won’t give any spoilers :).

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

Great to hear that at least some of the jokes hit their mark :D

Happy you like the ending, too, and thank you for spoiling the others ;)

Well comrade, after being consumed by an Orca, I came back, but that will be for later. I had decided to be an athletic swimmer, but I guess that was a mistake. Going for those biscuits, I avoided many dangers until it was too late for me. What I saw was beautiful, landscapes filled with snow and ice, and terrifying frozen waters I always avoided... until I couldn't. After somehow returning, I decided to spec into survival, but it was in vain when, after bumping into several animals and returning to the lake whence I died at, I yet again made a terrible mistake: trying to reason with some guy with a pistol on a busted dinghy. Somehow returning yet again, I died to running away from a wolf. Finally, after a fifth time, I made it back to the dinghy after re-tracing my prior steps, which admittedly was very strange. I met a guy along the way who offered me soup and I chatted to him, nice guy. I think I did it the first time around, but that's quite hazy. In that dastardly dinghy I walloped that crook across the face, and I got the goods, but I'm not so sure if it was a good idea... I can't figure it out.

Either way, It was quite a positive experience! (Oh, and it seems some guy was trying to imitate that one guy... LeBouf, was it? I know nothing about that figure, but the encounters certainly were something...)

Really cool game, I'm not sure if there was an issue with the visual display when I played as the text box was cramped in the top left and there was a bar of images on the very right but quite a lot of dead space in the middle? Either way it was fun playing through the story, nice work!

Developer

Thank you!

Currently, it's only meant to be played on desktop with a specific browser resolution.
It sounds like you played on mobile, where the UI elements aren't properly aligned.

Happy to hear it still worked and was enjoyable :)

Impressive art and audio! And there seems to be much to explore! I’d like to know: Do different character choices make difference?

Developer(+1)

Thank you!
The characters are currently just visuals, after the jam we might expand them to have more impact :)

Submitted(+1)

What a game! The visuals, sound and story are amazing!
Impressive for just one week! Enjoyed it a lot, and played more than once 😃

Developer

Thank you, happy you liked it :)

Granted, we were a team of two which makes it easier :)

This was such a vibe. What a cool little visual novel! Very impressive work for a 7 day jam, especially considering the amount of choices and story.

I managed to get to the end as a woodworking Bob:

Thanks for making this, comrade!

Developer

thank you so much, comrade!

and congrats on making it through ;)

I love the aesthetics of this so much, although I disagree that explaining to a fellow proletariat that our real enemy is capitalists would result in anything other than friendship and class consciousness.
