This was a great entry and I enjoyed playing it. I love the art and felt pretty good about myself until I realized I was a snail in the second level. That completely changes things and I had to be more careful to make it all the way across. The death animation was funny as well. Great job.
Very solid game. I'm glad that it was forgiving with multiple lives.
Nice work! Frogger with a snail is a really interesting concept, you have to be a lot more thoughtful with how you move.
This was a cute take on Frogger. It was a nice touch having the squirrel and snail movements feel different. The second level felt like a bit of a jump in difficulty from the first level, but with only two levels it was understandable.
Nice work! It's so cute, the only thing I didn't like is the different movement of the snail on the second level, but overall a really great job
I loved this game! Simple but cute, the music was so chill (maybe too chill considering what I did to that poor snail)... The different physics between the characters movements is very interesting. Wished there was even more levels!
Lovely game and super cute art!
Really cool game, love the music and art as well!
Very cute game and concept. :)
Super cute game! The squirrel was fun, but I enjoyed playing as the snail more because: 1) it felt more dangerous since the snail was so slow and 2) the squelching sound effects when he moved. Nice work!
Nice take on frogger. There could have been more levels/more complex levels.
Really cute art! I especially loved the HUD at the top and the palette. The gameplay is solid and that difference between characters through the mechanics might help designing more difficult and interesting levels. It adds the basic Frogger mechanic some spice!
Nice work!!
I liked the art and music. The game made me feel pretty relaxed.
I also found it very interesting that you played as different critters, each with different speeds.
I’m curious why you added lives and a time limit, so that the level completely resets? (Was that to make the game last longer?)
Thanks for playing and for your comment!!
I wanted to add a time limit & lives to make the game a bit more of a challenge. I worried that without it, the game would be too easy. That said - I didn't have a lot of time to play test. I only watched one person (who is very good at these types of games) play and he was able to beat both levels easily. So maybe the game is not as easy as I thought or the lives / time limit is not really necessary?
I would be curious to know if you think the lives / time limit aren't needed? I am definitely a newbie when it comes to game design and trying to learn, so if you have any advice or constructive criticism I'd love to hear it :D
Thanks for the answer! Ah okay, I See.
Mmh, I’m not a pro game designer.
But from a game design perspective, I can’t really say whether lives or a timer are unnecessary, it kind of depends on your vision for the game. Then I would check whether what you implement actually adds to that vision or not.
For example, if you want the game to feel more cozy, a timer with time pressure might not be the best idea. Lives, on the other hand, could work, since they encourage a more thoughtful, calmer approach. But that would also be somewhat unnecessary, since there’s already the punishment of being sent back to the start, so it could be a bit redundant.
If you want it to be more difficult, then adding a timer fits, it can “stress” the player, which is its own skill to deal with, and can lead to more mistakes. Even though my first thought for increasing the difficulty would be to add more obstacles or make them harder?!
This is such good feedback, thank you! I honestly didn’t even think about how a timer makes things stressful vs. how taking it out could make the game feel way more chill.
I’ll definitely play around with that idea... maybe instead of a timer I just add more obstacles or make the enemies sneakier or faster?
Appreciate you taking the time to spell everything out, now I’ve got a bunch of new ideas and things to consider for next time :D
You're welcome.
And have fun on your further journy😊
Art and Music are God, and the gameplay has huge potential. It's a shame it's too short.
Lovely pixel art and overall a cute game! I think the idea of having multiple different characters with different movement mechanics in a Frogger-like game is neat.
Loved the game! Art, music are very cute and beautiful. Gameplay is fun. Too short thou)
Loved the little animal portraits up top. I think its a really cute twist on a classic, executed quite well overall.
Good Job!
Nice little game, remind me of crossy road. The fact you play differents animal is really nice too. In the first level, i thouht it was water at first cause of the color, it confuse me a there. In the second level, it felt weird when arriving to the river with the turtle and log since you hop and move so much faster than early level. A would also add, leaving the grave could have been nice. I h
Thank you for your kind words and feedback! There are definitely some issues with the movement that I wasn't able to fix in time 😅 Hopefully after the jam ends I can work on fixing those.
I absolutely love the idea of the critters coming back to life / leaving their grave in order to keep playing!
