This was a really fun puzzle game. At first I didn't realize how the shield worked. I was expecting some sort of area of effect around it. Once I realized how it behaved, I did a lot better. After my 3rd attempt, I found success! Great job!

Congrats on completing your first game jam! We also made a tower defense game, so I was excited to play your entry. I really loved the art in this game, especially the green radioactive brains. I almost survived wave 3, but still had 4 zombies left before I died. If you decide to keep working on this, it would be fun if the lab went through visual damage states as it's being destroyed. Overall, really impressive for a first game jam, especially with such a small team. Well done!

Congrats on completing your first game jam! I played a few times and ended with a score of 10,300. Not bad considering the first couple of times I jumped straight into the water. 😂 Making the main character pink was a nice choice to contrast with the colors of the background & mutants. Nice job!

I really enjoyed breeding the yips and seeing how their stats came out. You did a really great job coming up with different looks for all of the appearance traits. I did find one bug where if a yip was too close to the top of the screen (whether on the field or farm), the stat box would completely cover up the yip. This meant that I could not move them (if on the farm) or buy them (if on the field). I lucked out fairly early and bought a yip with over 200hp that (with its offspring) obliterated all of the competition. Really nice entry!

This game was super fun! I only got a 16 the first time I played. The second time, my #9 turtle was the only one still alive and the whole box moved to number 6. It wasn't taking any damage even though it got shot 2 rounds in a row. I finally started moving him around, and when he died, he completely disappeared but the game kept going. Crappy gif recording of a recording to show you what I mean below. I really enjoyed your voiceovers. You mentioned in the tutorial about the ability to move multiple turtles at once, but I don't think I was aware enough of the board to ever use it. If you keep going with this game, it might be cool to just start with the 2 turtles and eventually work your way up to 9. Really great entry!

The towers were placed that way in order to have "pretty" screenshots. Indeed, that is the way my husband (main programmer) plays. 😂 Thank you for playing!

One of our early concepts was to do some sort of plant gene-splicing game, so I was very excited when I saw this one! After playing for about 20 minutes, I was starting to get into the groove. I could see some of my plants were different colors (though it was very subtle), and one plant I scanned was worth $.03 (woohoo!), but I tabbed out of the game and lost my mouse capture. I couldn't rotate or interact anymore, even though I could scroll through my tools and move. Bummer. Despite not being able to play anymore, I was enjoying the challenge of getting differnt plants. I might come back to this one after voting is done, cause I'm very curious to see if the fruits eventually change shape or anything.

Also, small bug I noticed: the instructions on the itch page and in the key bind say to use "z" for going back to previous dialog, but the tool tip says to use "y." Both work, but just wanted to point out the inconsistency in case you decide to keep working on this post-jam. Overall, nice job!

The art was really fun to make, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks so much for playing!

Thanks! I had fun making all of the different sea creature mutations. I agree the game is a little too easy. We had more plans for balance, difficulty, and more levels as well, but time got us once again. Thanks so much for playing!

This was really fun! I thought that I would need to breed a lot of turtles to get the tolerance up, but I tested feeding uranium to my first turtle since it had the accurate eater (I think?) mutation, and it worked! Though, I think there's a bug because the *spoiler-thing* was supposed to be red, not orange. 😂 Nice job!

Congrats on completing your first game jam! Not that it impacts gameplay at all, but I think it would be cool to see a preview of the flower choices when you upgrade instead of just a colored box. I was glad that the slugs were slow, because the gnats were really annoying... just like in real life. 😂 Nice job!

This entry was so much fun! I really enjoyed being able to play around with when to upgrade/mutate. Also, the art was absolutely fantastic. I really liked that the tables, slot machines, etc. were actual breaks in the path rather than just background that you could walk on. Great job!

The level of polish on this entry was amazing. The art was very beautiful, and I loved the limited color palette that you used. I want to limit my color palette one of these game jams, but I like color too much and all of my art looks like a candy shop. 😂 Great job!

Congrats on completing your first game jam entry! It would have been nice to have the bottles and instructions on the same table. I kept going between the 2 screens trying to decide which mutagen to inject. But I really liked the concept. A lot of first time game jam entries forget to have music, so I'm glad you remembered to include some. Nice entry!

Bacteriophage! I enjoyed the art, music, and sound fx. I think because the UI was having issues, I had a hard time understanding what was being upgraded, so I just took the approach of "this round costs 100 per upgrade, so I'll just wait until I have 500 and upgrade all 5 at one time." I realized I could just hold the mouse down instead of repetitively clicking late, but it definitely made the end game more enjoyable. Nice job!

For such a cute game, I'm completely traumatized by the death fx. 😳 In all seriousness, I enjoyed playing this, even if some of the skills took me embarrassingly long to figure out. Nice job!

Congrats on submitting your first entry! I really liked the idea that we're supposed to cure the turtle rather than killing it. I played a couple of times and here are some issues I found so you can watch out for them in the future.

  • When I restarted the game after dying, I couldn't get through the doorway anymore. I tried shooting, but my water droplets were floating in the air next to me rather than going towards the turtle.
  • I think the collision on the sidewalk might be a little high? I had to jump into the arena every time to get through the door.
  • On one of my playthroughs, my health was at 0 for a long time, but I was able to keep playing. Eventually I did die, but I think I was at 0 health for almost 2 minutes?

I'm always impressed when people do a solo game for these. Nice job!

My favorite game of the jam so far! The mitosis animation + sound effect was so satisfyingly gross. I couldn't ever quite figure out what that red segmented bar was for. I thought it was my health, but when I started a second round the bar was empty. Or maybe it was my health and that was a bug? Anyway, it was such a minor issue compared to everything else. I really appreciated the option to turn down camera shake, though I agree with other comments about the general movement with the cursor being a tad much. Really great job. Even moreso considering you were a team of one. Well done!

This game was so much fun! The second to last level took me forever (I ended up recruiting help), but we finally figured it out. The very last level, we only used one of each mutation. Puzzle games are so hard to design. We keep avoiding them. You did a fantastic job!

I'm such a sucker for character customization. Behold, my first organism!

I thought the game was really fun, but I missed having sound effects and music. I really liked how varied the organisms looked just by changing the color & size. Nice job!

The turtle mutations were interesting because I modeled a thing and then my husband had to figure out what it was supposed to do.  Only a little backwards. 😂

Mutating the enemies would be fun! We had some other enemy ideas on the list, but the thought of them mutating as well hadn't crossed my mind. Thanks for playing!

Would you believe that just a few hours before submission the game was a little too hard? 😂

Thanks so much for playing!

There was some early talk about having the ability to move turrets. We even talked about maybe having the turtles walk to where you move them. But it all came down to time. Again. One day we'll scope our game properly before hand. 😅 Thanks for playing!

Mad Turtle might need to see a therapist. 😂 Joking aside, this was pretty fun. As others have mentioned, the recoil makes you feel super powerful. I did notice one small bug. When there are fewer than 10 seconds, there's no 0 placeholder in the tens column, so the time countdown looks like this. I did download the PC version when I played. Great job!

"dumb title, had little time left" made me chuckle! I had a lot of fun playing this game. I wish I could have played further, but by the time I hit level 9 my frame rate tanked like crazy. As an artist, I'm super impressed with how good the game looked since everything was code generated. Nice entry!

I love this genre of game. I had a lot of fun playing it. I agree with a previous comment that it feels like the hitbox is a little too large for the rat. Also, I felt like the DNA was a little too hard to pickup (no magnetism at all). But, maybe I didn't play long enough to get that mutaiton. Overall though, it was a solid entry and I'm glad I had a chance to play!

The time factor is always what gets people in these game jams! I don't think I've submitted one yet that I actually had enough time.

This game was much harder than I expected once the turtles came into play. Also, I was too greedy and accepted too many goals. 😅 This was a lot of fun, and really well thought out. Nice job!

Congrats on completing your first jam entry! I'm not sure if this is a bug, but my mutation bar got up to 50-something, but then no matter what I did it just started draining. Once it hit 0, I couldn't shoot anymore. I gave it a few seconds and was about to stop playing, but then all of a sudden I was shooting a steady stream of "bullets." The mutation bar still stayed at 0. I really liked the minimalist visuals. I think they work really nicely with your game. Nice job!

Very cute concept. It would cool to see some randomness to the body parts rather than specifically picking which parent's traits to inherit every single time. For example, if you bred a shark turtle in Generation 1, then the shark genes slowly "disappear," but all of a sudden in generation 5... boom! Shark head!

I really enjoyed this entry. Even though the graphics were simple, I thought the game looked really great because of that. I wish the health bar was connected to the cell since I fogot to pay attention to it. Nice entry!

I figured with mutant and turtle being in the same jam, there would be at least a few TMNT references. This one did not disappoint! I really enjoyed the story behind the game, and I loved the different mutations. I did get one bug where I killed a turtle in one location (white box), but his shell spawned in a different location (near the wall under the shell count). Weird. Overall, a nice entry!

I had a lot of fun making the art! I'm glad you had fun, and thanks for checking out our game!

I really liked the idea of combining nucleotides and that they had similar shapes to what you see in science textbooks. It would be super cool if the creatures visually changed as well... like from a duck head to a parrot or something. Nice job!

I played 7 full game days. At first I was overwatering the rhubarb, but once I figured it out, I got into a really good rhythm and was able to make a lot of money by unlocking the second plot. I really enjoyed the angry mutant rhubarbs' voice overs! Nice job!

(1 edit)

I managed to squeeze one more game in before voting ends! I couldn't get past the pit in time for voting, but this seems really fun so I might try more later. I just wanted to let you know that I LOVED the opening animatic. Great job!

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm glad you enjoyed the UI. I have previous UI trauma that I'm just now starting to get over, so this is the first jam I've done where I've put genuine effort into it.

With the collision, we had it set so that all of the reindeer + sleigh had collision. It is possible some of our collision was too fat. Did you notice if it was a particular part of you getting hit or a particular obstacle that felt this way? For a while we had grids of snowmen so the corners being relativiely safe weren't a thing until the last minute. Oops!

I was not great at this game (I'm terrible at video game and irl parkour), but I really liked where it was going. I could see the flag in the distance from the bubble platforms (i'm guessing that's were the 3rd pet was), but was not coordinated enough to get there. I thought that grappling through the trees was fun, and the floating felt nice once I understood how it worked. Nice job!
