Not played many idle games, but found this to be quite fun. Getting all the parts for the mech took quite a bit of grinding, and I wasn't sure if I was supposed to build the mech in any specific way, but hey I got through it.

Great Job, solid game!

Developer

Yeah, there's no official expected order - though, it would be assumed that weapons would or could be purchased last since you're purchasing the plasma generator last.

Thanks for playing!

Love the ui in this one, and big fan of the scouting mechanic! More games should implement active info-acquisition mechanics to offset their own procedural generation, its an interesting back and forth fr.

Developer(+1)

hey! glad you enjoyed the game! Thanks for playing.

Submitted(+2)

Really good clicker! The idea of having to grind for resources to build a mech and then actually using it for fighting is a fresh twist on the genre! Plus, the customization is always nice to see.

The presentation is great, both for the graphics and the music. Specially the soundtrack was FIRE!!! 10/10. (jungle/dnb/intelligent fan here lmao)

Design-wise, the main loop is cool but the balance feels kinda weird. Some prices spike real fast while others don't, and some upgrades feel kinda useless due to others being too useful (like the crit-chance or the first drones in general).

The final battle with the mech was very fun, I mashed the hell outta my mouse to get a time of 27 seconds! My only nit-pick is that it was a short-lived fight, but very fun nonetheless.

Overall, the concept is great and it could be stellar with more polish, but the final jam product is really good! Great job, had a blast playing it! ^^

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for the feedback! and yeah, the game can use a bit of balancing - idle games are actually much more difficult to balance than I was hoping for (seems kinda dumb to say looking back lol!). Glad you enjoyed it! I do plan to polish this off after the jam ends - even with the possibility of expanding it.

For an idle game, it's a bit too active for my style of idle game. I felt like I had to sit on the mining screen the whole time to babysit my drones to keep them from getting blown to bits by asteroids or the too common feeling UFO. I didn't really get time to look at the other menus closely since it something happened in the mining screen whenever I spent too much time away from it. Even on the mining screen itself I feel like I don't get enough time to really look at my options before something happens that makes my close it to protect my drones or to just make sure I don't miss the income from passing asteroids.

The price updates seem inconsistent- I've spam clicked the buttons a few times to buy in bulk, which appears to not give the game enough time to update the displayed price. It sure fixes itself the next time I buy though. When it comes to numbers, I had a hard time reading the font. I had some issues differentiating 4, 7, and 9 sometimes.

That side, I really do like the UI style. Though on the mining screen while I think the visual effect on the monitors is pretty good, I'd prefer it for only the asteroid display itself and to have the refiner and generator display clean. At least to my brain, it doesn't make sense for the latter two since it's not like they're a live video feed of something in the world. I do like how the different resources are required for each part, so you have to plan around them. Sad to say I didn't want to play enough to reach buying more than the torso.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback!  I think I agree with you on applying the filters on the monitors. For the lag in price updating - there is definitely a formula to keep price scaling consistent -  I was using an auto load to store all of the variables regarding upgrades- to which I regret now and wish I would have just stored them locally as you can easily suffer collisions when multiple processes are trying to access a (single) singleton (auto load) at once - it's once of the biggest downsides of the that OOP pattern.

Thanks for playing!

Haven't had as much time as I'd like with it yet but it's very cool. Nice looking and the soundtrack is beautiful too.

Developer

thanks for playing! Hope you get to the end eventually!

Loved the art and music and I'm a sucker for incremental games.

For critiques, there were some confusing elements such as always hearing 'drone destroyed' but my drones were all still there or the fight scene in general where I wasn't quite sure what I was contributing to the fight. My missions also got stuck because 'buy a mining drone' would not complete with me buying my sixth mining drone.

Still a pretty solid package overall, though, your team bit off a large number of mechanics (the mining, the shop, the fights, etc.) and managed to hook them all together.

Developer

It’s odd that you got the mining drone bug. Previously it was caused by buying one before the mission was given, but I’m pretty sure that was fixed so there must be some other cause. Was the drone destroyed audio playing when the ufo came or just randomly?

Submitted

I heard it a few times during UFOs, but most of the time the UFO was not on-screen so I thought the asteroids were destroying them.

Developer

Thanks! Yeah, so for the fight scene, you're contributing based on the weapons you buy - which go off on auto dps checks represented by the progress bars filling up at the bottom. The damage done to you and the to opponent are shown at your health bars. Also, the mech components you buy will influence your ability to dodge attacks and accuracy. You can also spam click the boss - "shooting" off your Vulcan lasers -to give your self a bit of an edge. I agree that visual indicators could be better - I'd love to go back and flesh it out - adding attack animations, etc.

Thanks for playing and glad you enjoyed it!

This was fun and addictive, the loop felt very well-developed.  The mission structure worked really well as a kind of tutorial / keeping you on track for what the goals of the game are.

I did encounter a few bugs:

- I was able to go into the negative on my platinum, I think from buying recon drones

- I bought the plasma generator before I got the mission so that mission was never able to complete.

I particularly liked the models for the mech parts and the fight at the end was unexpected and cool (if yeah, a little underdeveloped).  Great job overall this is one of my top games so far.

my mech construction time was 20:08:452 and my fight finish time was 00:59:155 🤘

Developer

Wow! It's an honor to hear this. Thanks for playing and thanks for reporting some bugs. I'm not sure what happened with the generator since the boolean that  determines whether or not the generator was purchased is what unlock the ability to upgrade it, and it also determines if the mission was completed or not.. I'll have to look at the code again.

The recon scout issue was actually found within the hour before we submitted - so we didn't have time to fix it and it figured it was manageable anyways. We were wondering if someone would find it 😂

Developer

The negative platinum value bug happened to me when testing an earlier build of the game. That's hilarious that you found. Not sure what caused it in my case but I know my bloodline would've been in platinum debt for generations.

This one surprised me, once I started to get into the grove it sucked me in completely, I just love collecting resources ive always been one of my favorite things in games! And this one nails it to the t.

And then the whole progression was so satisfying specially how it all led to the conclusion. This is a really good game for being made in such a small window of time. Great job!

Developer

exactly what I was hoping would happen when people played the game. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+2)

This is great, the graphics and sound are all awesome. The mining seemed very slow but that was probably on me, I imagine I could do things more efficiently. The mech fight was fun, I was a little surprised to get a game over after I lost, I thought I could just try again, haha.

Real cool idle game with a twist

I really dig the overall presentation with all the little sprites for the drones resources etc.. all presented through a cool CRT style filter, The 3D models for me are totally what steal the show visually, love that very Megaman Legends style of texturing :D

The sound design is also pretty good, these jungle tracks are a perfect fit for a space themed game.

My only gripe is that the menu system can feel a bit heavy handed, i was confused at first about the drones and mining related purchases not being in the “Shop” menu untill i realised this shop was exclusively for mech parts :/

Other than that slight confusion it’s a neat concept, good job :)

Developer(+1)

thank you for the feedback. Yeah, it can be a bit cumbersome to navigate the menus, so I'll need to figure out how to streamline things a bit better or maybe I'll make a mission that has the player open the upgrades panel so they get the notion that upgrades and parts are in different places.

.And yeah, I agree with you on the 3d models.. I really pushed for this as I knew it would be a really cool draw factor (pun intended). We tried to look for a 3d modeler but had no luck - so I decided to give it a stab, willing to give up sleep hours, and it turned out much better than I anticipated. I told my team that it building gunpla for years is what probably helped me with the mech anatomy lol!

Thanks for playing!

No problem just doing my part as they say XD

Yeah it can be intimidating but once you really get into it and stick to some low poly stuff 3D isn’t as hard as it may seem at first ^^ and honestly i would have never guessed you just picked up 3D recently cause these look really cool :D

Developer(+1)

thanks! Yeah, I've had a few other experiences with 3D - including a game jam last year where I made all of the world assets using crocotile lol (that was hell)- but I wouldn't say I'm too comfortable with the medium. But yeah I agree, once I got into the flow of making the models, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be - actually kind of therapeutic. My first attempts for textures for some of the mechs were so awful, which made me sweat a little - but I re-based and remembered that I do have some pixel art skills - which helped me get the look that I wanted :D.

Submitted

Haha well pixel art x simple 3D is the magic mix that does wonder so your skills most surely helped XD

Submitted(+1)

extremely addicting great work!

Submitted

What an interesting twist on the idle genre! I wish the text was a bit more readable, the pressure to quickly scan the shop and main screen for the scout drone and mech components needed to upgrade may be part of the intentional gameplay loop though. Same with the upgrade screen--it took a while to parse what the options were while rocks were flying towards my drones! I eventually upgraded my plasma generator speed to the point where I was at -2000 silver ore and had to call it quits haha. I think having some readout for "rate of collection per second" for each stat would be nice at-a-glance, which scales for each drone you purchase and the upgrades attached.

Love the music, love the aesthetic, a solid replayable game jam entry!

Submitted

Overall pretty interesting entry, with two game modes.

The aesthetic was top-notch. Loved the "UFO Down" Voice clip. The BGM really fitted the vibe. Had to double check, if this was my private music, since I listen to something similar before :D

One major thing: I'm not a big fan of Click / Idle / Resource Management games, but the promise, that you can build your own mech and fight with it was really keeping me mine resources. Guess you picked "Bait" as secondary theme after all XD

At the end, the building part took me 22:24.531 (oof) and the fight was over in 00:25:228.

Developer(+1)

22 minutes a about 7 minutes longer than what I was hoping would be the average for players. There are definitely ways to optimize you mining for a faster time - and it might encourage a second play through (along with coming up with another mech build, and possibly fighting the other 2 mechs) since you now know the systems better - but as you're not a fan of the genre, I don't expect you to want to play it again - but I'm glad that you did even though you don't like the genre. I was hoping the mech building aspect would help appeal to a broader audience and looks like it has succeeded in my book.

Thanks for playing!

Developer(+1)

I'm jealous since I played the final build twice and died to the boss both times!

Glad you like the 'UFO Down' clip - that would be my voice 😄

Developer(+1)

That’s actually an impressively short boss time, I wonder what boss/mech build combo you had going on. Some of my playtest fights were around a minute longer than that, I don’t think I ever had below 30 seconds.

Submitted

I'm good at mashing and hat to release some steam from the long mining time :)

(+2)

Love the art-style and enjoyed my playthrough!

Developer

Thank you, im glad you were able to get through the game!

Submitted(+2)

This game has a really good art direction. I think you guys missed adding theme to the options menu. I like the overall concept of the game. I don't like the annoying shader on mining and it is really annoying to play or read and I could not find an option to disable it and sadly could not continue playing it.

The music I liked it. Overall a great submission imo.

My suggestion is I think for next time if you are going to add shaders like these make an option while developing to disable it in the options menu.

Developer(+1)

hey man! Thanks for the feedback. You're right a filter option would have been great. I might possibly add that in  a little later, since I think we can further polish things during judging time (will double check before I do that) - so if you happen to come back later it may or may not be implemented.

Submitted(+1)

Sure, I would be happy to try it out after the accessibility option is done. :)

Developer(+1)

The update is out! hope you enjoy it!

It was fun to finish. I did find click and hold blinking slightly annoying and I think it can also be a toggle but everything else I really liked about the game.

As I mentioned before UI is a little unfinished. If you made it in godot, I recommend making a theme and and using it for every button. I see close button has UI and no other buttons have it.

I don't know why but itch says error when I upload screenshot D:

Submitted(+2)

Bro, the sound, the pixel art, the vfx, the UI, it's all top-notch. You guys did an excellent job building your game, well done.

Developer

thank you so much! It was kind of ambitious to get all of the art in, but it was well worth the effort imo.
