Brilliant execution of the idea!
Would love an undo button though.

Developer

Hey there, undo might trivialise some levels a bit but I'll make sure to enable the retry button and link a shortcut the the R key
thanks for trying out our game

Really cool concept! The CRT effect gives it a nice retro feel, and the core mechanic is super creative. I haven’t seen a snake game where you actually want to crash into yourself, which was a fun twist.

The puzzles were satisfying and the difficulty ramped up at a nice pace. Only issue I had was that sometimes I’d move two steps instead of one, usually right after eating an apple. Could just be me, but it threw me off a bit.

Overall, really fun and clever game!

Developer(+1)

Hey there, thank you for trying out our submission,
and yes the "jump" after eating an apple is a bug turned into a feature,
the tail would duplicate in earlier build but moving forward fixed/hid the issue so I ran with the idea and designed the levels around this "FEATURE" xD

Submitted(+1)

Very polished experience. Would like to know how long the snake is at the start of the level, and an undo button that maybe I just didn't find but overall. a really well executed implementation of this concept.

Developer(+1)

Thank you this is really good feedback, we tried an "undo last move" button but it kind of trivialised a lot of the levels.

We wanted to make the snake leave a tunnel with a number on it (regarding it's starting size) but we did not manage to gave the art working in time, will be added after the jam.

A super clever concept, flipping the classic Snake on its head! Level design was also really nice. One little thing that felt slightly off is how you grow "by the head" instead of "by the tail" upon eating apples, unlike in the original. Other than that it's a really well made puzzle game with a cool vibe!

Developer(+1)

Hey thank you for having tried out our little project,
regarding the head growing thing, it started out as a "bug" where the tail would duplicate because if the way I implemented the snake sections, moving the snake would fix the graphical bug so ... yeah I made the snake move when your eat to "hide" this issue.
and the more I played around with it the more I fell in love with how this forces you to think more carefully how you should move.
You might be able to guess what levels were created especially with this new "feature" in mind ;)

Submitted(+1)

Yeah I guess it also created interesting puzzles so that's actually cool!

Submitted(+1)

Very cool concept! The CRT wave going down was very annoying but the game concept and the puzzles were very enjoyable!

Developer(+1)

Hey sorry the vfx bothered you, once the jam ends I'll add a toggle or a slider in the options menu to soften or disable the effect

Submitted(+1)

I love the creative take on the classic snake game and Ouroboros theme. I also love the visuals and audio they work so well and you made whole 10 levels that's awesome!

Developer

Thank you for your motivating feedback.
I thought quality over quantity ... maybe I should have pushed myself a bit more and aimed for 15 ^^

when I see other puzzle games with upwards of 30 levels and way more mechanics I'm impressed what people can do in only 4 days time

I'm a sucker for that CRT tv aesthetic. I really loved the feel of your screen effect! That slow moving distortion scanline is beautiful.

Developer

Thank you, as for everything SFX / VFX the beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I'll add some sliders in the settings menu to play around since some players found it a bit too agressif.
I'm glad you enjoyed your time with this little project of ours

i loved the puzzles, very well designed. the aesthetics of the game are also quite good. very nice job!

Developer

Thank you, we tried to keep it simple and polish to the best of our current abilities

Fun game! I enjoyed the puzzles. I think on level 10 eating the apples sends you through the wall! Otherwise solid

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you enjoyed your time with our little project .. and yes the collision system is a bit buggy sometimes when eating multiple fuits or when mashing keys, I've found a fix but was not able to upload it to itch before the deadline.
will update after the Jam

Very nice, really enjoyed these levels and the choice about whether to take the fruit or not or how many to take. Not sure about the VHS screen distortion effect, it was a bit extreme and nauseating when it moved over the bit of the screen I was focusing on. Had a bug on level 5 where I was able to move to the right (where there should have been a wall, lower right section of the level) and just kept moving off the screen.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback,
Yes I was already made aware (and have a fixed version of the collision system) but the game is frozen during the jam.

It is true that the effect can be a bit much sometimes, I'll add some sliders in the settings menu to let the player decide how much/little then want. Again thank you for your feedback

Some of these puzzle really made me think, amazing

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it <3

Fun puzzly twist on a classic snake! So funny to chase yourself and try to bite my own tail :D Really enjoyed this one and even bit through some walls!

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed your time with this smal GameJam version,

We will try to work on a full release for mobile afterwards since the feedback we received is so positif

Submitted(+1)

Go for it! The concept is solid! With more levels and features it can be a cool full game.

Submitted(+1)

The presentation is really nice. The puzzles are fun but it would be interesting to add a new mechanic or two. Maybe if it drinks a beer then the controls get reversed. Well done!

Developer

Hehehe,

We have a few planned out but just didn't have the time to implement.

The reception has been so great I'm fairly certain we'll turn this GameJam idea into a full mobile release

Submitted(+1)

Similar to other entries, but really solid execution. The post-process effects really carry the art style and give it this great retro feel.

Developer

Thank you,

Simple but polished was our motto

SO COOL! This is the best game I’ve played so far. I really love how you’ve taken a popular trope in games and completely turned it on it’s head. Then matching the jam theme :chef-kiss: Great work and great execution of the idea! Well done.

Developer(+1)

Your comment just put the biggest smile on my face, what a way to start a day

Thank you so much for your kind words

Great puzzle game!

Developer

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it

Submitted(+1)

Nice little puzzle game, levels were a bit easier than I expected but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Good take on the theme with a nice polished execution, nicely done!

Developer

Thank you,

I reworked the more difficult levels to try and make it as approachable as possible during the Jam,

We'll try to turn this into a full android release with way more levels, mechanics and ramping difficulty

Submitted(+1)

Cool take on the theme! Had some fun with the puzzles. Nice work!

Developer

Thabk you, I'm so glad you enjoyed it

Submitted(+1)

I really love this take on the theme and on the snake game. For once,I am allowed to eat my own tail!

Developer

That reads... Very wrong xD

I'm so glad you enjoyed your time with our little project

Submitted(+1)

Quite adictive. We had a similar idea early, but then we made a Tower Defense. I really like the levels design. Good levels.

Developer

Hey thanks for trying our our take on the idea, I absolutely love your take on the tower especially the money/mana management.

And good god I don't know how to draw if my life dependent on it but Dylan aswell was blown away by your ouroboros design
