This is a really clever game with good execution. Nice work!

Really fun game with lots of potential for the future! I really liked the art style and characters

The pixel art looks really good and well put together, especially the visual effect of the blocks coming into the scene. The puzzle and timing elements are interesting and could definitely be expanded upon with more levels. Overall, a great entry!

Developer

Much appreciated :) Got some more content coming as soon as the jam is over! Been thinking of way too many new features to add to this. That’s a good sign, right? ;p

love the term taterlings! i liked how you used the loop to code the movements and backspace to erase is very intuitive. it kept showing me i had hit the max of 25 steps when i hadn't , at least to my knowledge

Developer

Haha, thanks! I started writing it with “underlings” then realized there was a missed opportunity and corrected my mistake ;p

Huh, that’s very unusual. If you ever play it again and it happens, please let me know :)

Thanks so much for playing!

It's a fun puzzle game that you could definitely expand on. The pixel art and color palette are great. There are a few things you could tidy up, like mousing over the potato as they go down the hole still shows the popup menu spinning around. And some sound will go a long way! Great work.

Developer

I really appreciate that :D My mind has been racing since doing the jam; definitely in scope creep mode now. Have a bunch I’m going to update post jam.

OH! I didn’t realize that. Will definitely fix that up. I imagine that would be quite humorous.

Sound is definitely quick to follow. Thanks for playing!

Really cool interpretation of the theme, I enjoyed this a lot. I just wish there were a few more levels.

Developer

Thanks so much for saying that. I know that the lack of levels makes it hard to really enjoy it. But watch this space, I had too much fun making this and have already added a bunch of new content in for post jam :D

The concept is really cool ! Too bad there is no sound (unless it's only for me ?) and the instructions above the heads of the characters sometime blocks the view to the trap door.
Art is awesome, really good job !

Thanks for the kind words! Was only doing the jam part time, so didn’t get to everything we wanted. Will definitely be adding more for the post jam version for sure!

Ahh, that’s a really good call out! Maybe the bubble can become a bit transparent after a second or two of inactivity to try show you what is going on?

Submitted

Yes something like that ! Or there could be a defined space on the screen where you write those instructions in a line and then slide the loop on the character you want maybe ?

Developer(+1)

That’s a great idea. I originally wanted it to be a command line type thing where you write all the commands out, then settled on this because I couldn’t figure out the UX of how to do that in a nice way within the time frame.

I think that the full game will be a better resolution, so it gives more space to do something nice like that.

rly like the cute artstyle and u got some interesting puzzles here!! also appreciated the ability to change moves

Developer

Thanks! Hopefully post jam we will be able to flesh it out a bit more and explore the puzzle space 🤞🏻

Submitted

Fun! I would play more of this

Developer(+1)

Awesome! That’s so nice to hear. I’m working on some more content for once the jam is over. Thanks for the comment!

I liked the art and the mechanic, too bad there aren't more levels.

Developer

Thanks for playing, really glad you enjoyed it! Already working on more levels for once the Jam is over. Sadly didn’t get to it while doing the jam part time. Appreciate the comment!

I don’t really understand what I’m meant to be doing.

Developer

Hey! Thanks for playing.

Do you mind giving some more insight into what you found difficult so that I can update the page to have better instructions?

Submitted

It wasn’t obvious that you needed both taters on trapdoors. I don’t really understand how the “command” system works, how to get taters to stop on trapdoors. It seems that it sometimes goes back levels.

Developer(+1)

Ahh yup. I’ve added some more instructions to the page to hopefully clear up the expectations.

I think what may not have been clear is that the tater won’t stop when it reaches a trapdoor and that you have to have to get them both to reach the door on the same move.

This then may have lead to why it seemed to go back levels if you overshot and it failed with max moves and made you restart the same level.
