Best boomer game!

Jam HostSubmitted(+2)

Congrats, guys! Technically paramount, it does not feel like a jam entry, so polished! The idea is extremely funny too. Amazing work.

Developer

thank you very much!!

Ahaha ! A new genre: FPF ( First Person Feeder)!

If only old people here in Italy were able to play the game, maybe they will avoid to go outside...

Dovremmo fare un gioco simulativo di cantieri per tenerli a casa ahhaahha

eheh, mi sembra una cosa fantastica... se hai bisogno di un folle che ti segue in questa idea, conta su di me!

Wow. This game is beautiful! 11/10 on the graphics and animation. The concept and style is really nice, definitely reminds me of something I would expect by Pixar. The composition within the title screen was beautifully arranged, could easily be a wallpaper background. The controls and objective were very clear from the get-go. The music was nice and complimented the game pretty well. The sound  FX weren't repetitive, sounded nice and natural.  I can definitely see this being a VR or mobile game given the simple controls and mechanics. Although I don't feel like the cane smacking mechanic provided value to the actual gameplay (I found it more efficient to just feed the animals every time instead), I think it's still valuable simply because it's hilarious, with that said I would've kept it in the game if I were building it myself too.  The energy meter was a nice touch because it prevented me from just spamming different food all over the place, but at the same time it almost felt like the energy meter didn't exist once I started carefully selecting food to throw out (energy regenerated faster than animals would arrive and didn't make it too punishing to occasionally make a mistake).

Overall a beautiful, simple, and fun game.

Thanks a lot for the detailed review! We are considering whether to expand the project. Yes, feed the animals is more efficent that kick them! If you want, you can try this build POST-JAM (not consider it for evaluation)https://drive.google.com/open?id=1LVQmYiqNhZyHh_iTYnPR7OJwQbZioW7i

In this build the game is more balanced and the cane is more efficient!

Old bench guy, Boy. Feed the birds and what have you got? Fat birds.

Loving the style of this game, well done!! 😁🐦

Thank you very much!! ❤

This is seriously hilarious, I don't get how you guys managed to get a game that is so good looking in such a short amount of time. Loved it.

Developer

Thanks for playing the game and the nice feedback <3

Love the art style! Definitely a time killer, simple mechanics enveloped in a hilarious setting. Beautifully made.

One of the best entries so far, congrats <3

Thank you very much!! "Oh Boy, Coins!" (made in only 48h) is one of my favorite submission.

if anyone of you are reading this go check him out!!

AAAAAAAH THAT'S PERFECT!! At the beginning I paid a lot of attention to the food to give to the animals. At some poin I started kicking everyone and that made my day.

Thanks for the nice comment!!  I'm happy to see that you had fun <3

Without any doubt this is my favourite game of the jam!

Submitted(+3)

This was made in a 3 day jam. 3 Days. Respect.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks a lot! I'm trying your game just now!

Developer

The trick was to make the character still and not moving so we could make fewer models and more curated also the graphics we have chosen is not very detailed.
Another thing which helps us was the blueprint system of Ue4 and the material graph because we could reach good results in a short amount of time.

Very cute and fun game, and also very chaotic haha. Here's my playthrough of it: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/570130187

---UPDATE---

Hi! This is the POST JAM FIX version of The Bench 0.2 , If you want to rate the submission please don't take into consideration this one but download the original one made in 3 days.

Additional feature:

--The stick now can stun animals for 5 second

--When the animals are stunned they have a stun effect on their heads

--Ragdolls

We had to balance some stuff to make the game fairer:

--Fix some bugs

--The spawn of the animals is been reduced

--The spawn of the types of species now is gradual

--The UI of the stamina flashed red when not enough

--Removed Wonky (the old version of the cat)

The graphics are amazing and super detailed! I like how the animals look and sound. I feel like the game gets too hard too quickly

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks a lot!! The difficulty curve its a little sketchy we will adjust it after the jam is over, if you want, try to give them more food its easier that way and also play with the Numpad that is more comfortable

Note: Our other team members weren't able to run the game, so they assigned me, the harshest critic of them all, to play it.

First of all, it is a good game, and I don't mean it in the "hey man, I need some ratings, great game though!" way, I really mean it. I see that this is your second jam game, and you did a great job!

Now, after that is out of the way, I must say that I am no game-critic and I know that there are human beings like me at the other side of the screen, putting effort and time and sweat to doing something, great.

But I didn't enjoy it.

I know, I just said that you did a great job, didn't I? Yes, you did. But the game is something like... a captcha. There is no fun, there is just frustration in failing to pass it. In a short span of time it turns from something funny into a program that actively designed to make you fail and you just get more and more frustrated along the way.

But again, I am no game-critic, and I find this game better than all of our games, combined. You made a game, an actual game, in a short amount of time, using a unique mechanic. And managed to do it, by coordination! That is the thing that amazes me the most.

Tips:

You can try to lower the difficulty, or give player higher stamina. You can buff the stick by making its "stamina bar" separate. You can also change the colors of the animals to make it easier to differentiate them.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for the critique I appreciate a lot the constructive criticism because it helps us grow as a Dev.

I understand where you're coming from, the game is unbalanced and the cane doesn't help it only drains stamina.
This is due to the fact that we have only one programmer in the team and we didn't have much time for testing.
It's my fault that the game is too hard because I change the difficulty curve (animals spawn delay) in the last few hours since i felt the game way too easy and not very challenging. Maybe after the jam is finished we will add a stun mechanic where the animals stay still for 4/5 second after you hit them and maybe we will lower the spawn rate.

Edit: we are really sorry that your team can't play the game we didn't understand where the problem is :(

Wow this is super funny and cool. I can't believe you perfectly simulated the guy in my local park.

User GPHOBIA uploaded a gameplay video for anyone in a similar predicament.

Cute, charming, fast-paced and yet serene! Astounding that you were able to cover everything besides the audio in the span of only 3 days! Best of wishes, hope you guys manage to place high!
