Very nice game! A little improvement and the game would be great.I enjoyed playing it. All the best and Good luck! Do check out our game we need the feedback! - https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-3/rate/574293
This game is really well rounded and designed in all areas, lighting the level with not only the cube but also with the portals is a great idea. I tend to agree with what the others are saying that it could light a little bit more than it does, but to be honest I really didn't think it was that bad since I can jump to shoot the portal on the ground to see where I would land, and since I mentioned the jump, I feel it didn't really had its use other than for what I mentioned, I didn't have enough space to jump over spikes, and didn't needed to use it to pass the challenges, well, at least the ones I got to on the third level because the respawn was only working on the first level so after a few tries I got tired of restarting all over again.
A few ideas I have for the jump is platforming, I feel it could fit really nicely in your game, now how can you do platforming in such a dark game? How about shooting the portals into cubes that light up a small area so you can see the platforms, or maybe shooting the platforms make THEM light up! There's definitely room for improvement and expanding on the idea. Stick Fight: The Game from Landfall Studios is a great reference for iterating of future challenges, I would say (lasers and stuff).
And I feel like some people are not doing justice about the lack of a checkpoint, maybe they didn't noticed the portals stays up even after you die, so you can use that like a checkpoint, well... assuming you didn't put the portal right above a spike. I feel like this is way better and smarter than a simple checkpoint system. Try making that clear next time! (;
The minimalist graphics & sound FX and ambient music goes really well together, I think nothing really needs to change about that.
There was definitely something jenky going on with the controls as I lost mouse control two times, and as I mentioned, the respawn only works on the first level. Well, that's how jams go sometimes!
With all that said, I think it's a really cool game with potential if you work more into it. Congrats on the submission!
If you got the time, we would love for you to check, rate and give feedback on our game, thanks!

Good concept and art style but the levels are too dark making the game a little frustrating. And after a while the mouse controls don't work.
I like the graphics and theme you went for. Particularly how the portals glow and light up the environment. However, I could not see where to go and kept falling into spikes. If the game is going to be dark like this a checkpoint system could alleviate a lot of frustration. Other than that is was fun, with solid controls.
Graphics plus animations all look good.
The control is also smooth.
The only problem is the level is too dark for the player to see what they should portal to.
(Or what obstacles are in front)
And it would be better if there is a checkpoint.
The art style is nice and the gameplay is pretty fun, although I think it's a bit hard to predict where you're gonna end up after going through a portal. But anyway, great game! I'd appreciate it if you would check out my game too!
great concept and idea !! i liked the game design and graphics !!
btw i rated ur game can u do the same psls ?? and thx !!
Nice idea and great concept with the portals. I really enjoyed playing it :)
It took me way to long to realize i needed to point my mouse to choose the direction of the portals.
But once i did it was very impressive. I don't recall ever seeing a 2D portal game like this, nice job. Would love to see more of it!
Only other criticism is i felt the fall speed was a bit too harsh, made it a little tricky, but sometimes tricky is a good thing so i didn't mind it too much.
Are you sure its your first game? I mean look at it, its so solid, very impressive. The game is hard but fun as well and the concept is amazing. The background music adds onto the dark atmosphere of the game. Well Done.
Love the concept! Really like the simplicity of the art, and I think the darkness does work, just maybe it's a tiny bit too much. But the core puzzle mechanic is fantastic. I did sadly hit a bug on the second level where I was no longer on the screen after dying so had to reset, but generally would love to see more of this! Good work! Check out my submission if you get a chance. Cheers!
thanks for the nice words π
I have already fixed the bu,but unfortunately i can't update the game untill the end of the jam.
I uploaded the game also on gamejolt where there isn't the bug https://gamejolt.com/games/MysteryPortals/471592
I will check out your game right now! π
Absolutely astounding music, but I found it almost impossible to navigate the levels properly with the current lighting setup, unfortunately.
