This game is pretty amazing. I really liked the strategic aspect to it.

What I liked:

1. Absolutely beautiful visuals

2. Music and sound effects are very polished

3. The gameplay was challenging, but didn't feel unfair

4. The emphasis on the combo meter to be able to beat more powerful enemies was well implemented

What I didn't like:

1. While the art style was gorgeous to look at, the enemies' colors felt a bit off, and a bit out of place with the rest of the palette

Other things and suggestions:

1. I think the way the game implemented the theme more wasn't the combo meter itself, but rather, the combination of attacks that the player selects to match those of their current enemy.

To be fair, I'm having a hard time finding criticism for this game, and I know my dislike point is more of a nitpick, but that usually means that you did a very good job making this game.

Great work, keep it up

Let all who stand before me fall! Great entry! My favorite from the jam so far. I had a bit of a tricky time figuring out what you were talking about in the instructions, but with some trial and error I got the hang of it. Good stuff :D

Really fun game, I like the combat system

This might be my favorite entry out of many, this was so fun! Seeing different animations being perform and sounds filling the room with epicness was amazing. And the dialogue at the end got me a chuckle as I realized it all. One thing I would say is probably being able to change cards would be nice, as sometimes I would be like "oh wait lets use this one", but then its too late. But that's a tiny issue as the game is great!

This is a lot of fun to play. I really like the art and the animations are really cool. Nice submission!

I love these kinds of combat systems, where a few small rules make for a very complex encounter. Art and audio fit nicely, even if they weren't custom made. The dialogue at the end was very funny 😂

Very nice work, I'd love to see this combat system used in a larger game.

This game just feels awesome to play. Just the gameplay is awesome! I really loved the game. If the movement (not attacking) animations were a bit better I would really consider like buying this game. The whole experience feels polished. I highly suggest you that after the jam ends, continue developing this game. Maybe add randomly generated enemies stats or create a story or maybe make it an rpg game. There are a lot of possibilities. Good luck!

I love the restricted colour palette, it looks great together with this really nice pixel art. The game concept is fun and it looks like you chose a really nice scope that allowed you to get super polished with the game. I feel like the UI is generally nice but has a few little quirks: the horizontal buff/item icon list seems to have varying padding in relation to the health bar; the "Combo" text seems a bit asymmetric. I assume you want to highlight the player by having it be bigger but I wonder if you could do it without asymmetric font sizes.

Thanks for playing!  Yeah the Combo text being bigger on the player's side, that's actually just a bug with punching the scale up and it not returning back down to its original size 🙃

This is one of those few games where I can't find anything to give feedback or criticism on. I loved everything about it. Seriously, great job on this game!

Really good game. So far this one kept me playing the longest. It'd be good to have more healing options though.

Turned out really well, keep up the good work

Wow I love this. I have always been a sucker for turn based RPGs. I'm really impressed you guys made this in a week. How many GameJams have you done, and how many people did you have on your team. The art and music are really stunning and even though you didn't make either yourselves you still had to find them and implement them which is still awesome in its own right. The use of the theme could be a little better in my opinion. However, combining attacks together to build up a combo meter was still a good incorporation of the theme, and an interesting mechanic. Oh and I forgot to mention, I loved the mechanics. It was the perfect level of difficulty. That was a really fun game and I hope to see you all in the next GameJam (if they have one).

Whoa thank you so much for the kind words!  I'm glad you enjoyed this!  This is my 6th game jam I've entered, all solo.

God damn ok. That's really impressive. I thought you might have been a veteran at this or something, especially since it was done solo. Nice job man. I hope to see you in the next one.

Once you understand what's happening it's a great take on turn-based combat, forcing strategic decisions with only a few simple mechanics. Has scope to be a full game!
