Wow this is a very intriguing game. I really loved the multiple endings lol

What I liked:

1. A simple yet very attractive game of Black jack

2. One of the endings was very... surprising

3. The sound effects are on spot with that retro feel

What I didn't like:

1. The game is a bit too short imo. Would've loved to see more wacky endings

Overall, I think you did a great job making this

Developer

The retro feel is what we aim for, glad you noticed that. Thank you so much for playing!

this looks like a game I would have played the heck out of on my old pc lol very similar vibe to something like the Oregon trail for me. Game plays great, well executed.

Developer

Yeah I love those kind of games too, thank you for playing!

I got him! Good work slick :D I liked the game, especially the sound effects. They suited the game very well.

Developer

Oh nice, thank you so much!

Pretty funny idea lol, yea I tried shooting him, the art style is nice too, and the little dialogues.

Developer

Thank you! :D

Really cool idea and love the art style. Great game!

Developer

Thank you so much!

I really loved the art style, animations and the atmosphere. Also the dialogues were pretty cool. Overall, it was great except the music. If you could add something like a tavern music or salon music it would be really awesome. But since you did create the audio yourself, good work.

Had quite a bit of fun playing it!

Developer

Glad you had fun! And yeah music would be a good addition, thank you!

Simple concept but really good execution. Visuals look great from the overall vibe to specific polish touches like text animation. Funny little twist as well, of course I tried shooting the guy.

Developer

Glad you liked it, thank you!

Art style and the rotoscoped animation are great. Love the quirky dialogue and the fact that you can randomly try and shoot your opponent.

Could do with more audio, some saloon music would really help sell the vibe.

Developer

Yeah that would be good, glad you like it, thank you!

I really like the theme. The art is really cool and sets the mood for the game very well.

I also really like the twist on blackjack, if only this option existed in the casino...

Nice submission!

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, atmosphere was a big part of our development process. Glad you enjoyed it!

What I liked

  • Theme is clearly recognizable
  • I love the visual style
  • I liked that you took a classic game and put yourself into it. I think game jams put a sense of pressure to make something completely unique or ground-breaking and, personally, I think it puts a dev into the wrong mindset.
  • I love the western feeling. I've been wanting to make a game with a western feel, but I have no idea what kind of genre I would want it to be.

Suggestions / Feedback

  • Most of the immediate issues are ui scaling issues. I may be wrong, but I'm guessing you might use Godot as your engine? If so, you're issues are with the the stretch mode settings and you're still learning how to use nodes that inherit from Control.

For this game, here's the settings that you should go with:

As for Control nodes I would start experimenting and reading the docs about these properties first

Overall, I liked the game and congratulations on submitting!

Developer

I really appreciate the in=depth reply. Yeah, I've never exported a game to HTML from Godot (I've been using Godot for almost a year now, but its been on and off for good deal of that.) Things like screen resolution just never seemed to be an issue until this build. I'm definitely not using control nodes to the best of their abilities, so I'll need to dive into some of those publications. This jam was really eye opening to me since the game is essentially just UI, and UI is really not something I've particularly cared about. Anyway, thank you for the feedback, I'll definitely utilize some of these lessons for future use

No problem. I'm getting better at using the control nodes, but I still haven't figured everything out haha

It turned out well, only the fonts are blurry on a full screen

Developer

Yeah, the UI scaling wasnt done correctly, thats my bad

Submitted(+1)

Nicelly done. Love the artwork and the sound! Like the fact that you could shoot hahahaha.

Developer

Yeah, we thought that would be a fun mechanic lol

Wow what an eerie game. I got shot twice (probably shouldn't have shot) and eventually won and he turned into a weird alien. I love the atmosphere you created here.

Glad you liked it, thanks for playing
