great work taking something conceptually simple and just driving it forward and refining it into something you can drop way more time into than you'd expect at first glance.

I played this multiple times to get a high score!

I think the most I could ask for would be maybe some more bosses and a touch of visual polish on stuff like the laser beam! Hitting the bonus also felt inconsistent to me but that might just be me

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for your time and feedback! This has easily been the most overwhelmingly positive reception to any jam game I’ve participated in, so I could see myself making a DX version sometime down the line with more content! But I say that every time, now don’t I… Who knows! Stay tuned, I guess!

Omg literally everything about this is insanely fun that I have no idea where to even begin - the gameplay is addicting and keeps me super engaged. The farthest wave I've gotten without losing any lives is Wave 23; once I start reaching the Waves in the 20's, I can really feel my reaction time being tested hahaha.

Also, the art and sound design REALLY compliment each other. I'm a big fan of the music because even when the gameplay was starting to get stressful, I felt very chilled out. I also really appreciate that I can adjust the music and SFX volumes from the pause menu.

A few things of note -- the first time I played, I'm not sure if I just got horrible luck but for some reason all of my boss fights on my first run was the one where you have to shoot the green pathogen LOL. I also noticed when I'd die and was on the end/leaderboard screen, some in-game events would still happen, specifically the WARNING! PATHOGEN APPROACHING effect, BUT I think that might have been a result of the timing in which I died. It was funny though

Even though I talked about those things, they did not at all affect my enjoyment of the game whatsoever. Hope I can keep my spot on the leaderboard!!!

Also glad you could interview Mr. Croski. Crazy stuff

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for your time and for your feedback! We paid close attention to the pacing and the difficulty scaling to make sure that flow was prioritized, and I feel pretty confident in our results!

You guys did a phenomenal job with the pacing and difficulty scaling!

Submitted(+1)

I've entered a medically induced flow state. It's the Scrumbo way to offer a simple mechanic that scratches that part of your brain that makes you hours into a game without realizing. This game has such a satisfying look and sound that feels tailored for getting lost in it. One of those "Was I playing with my mouth open?" kinda games, you know what I mean? 10/10

Developer

What can I say, I try!

Thanks for the kinds words, man, means a ton coming from you and your team!

Submitted(+1)

It was so hard to put this down when I saw there was a scoreboard! A random detail I really liked was the pathogens where you had to shoot the correct one to slow the advance - a simple but clever action "puzzle".  Nice work :)

Developer

Thank you so much! The bosses were some of the most difficult parts to design, I’m glad they seem to be a hit!

(+1)

haha had a blast with this omg, just plain fun. I loved how absurd the whole thing is, fuckin pill shooting laser beams to protect some very handsome organs. I cracked up every time the pathogen warning came up, I'm such a sucker for that kinda boss warning screen.

Developer

I’ve been wanting to have a SHMUP style warning screen in my projects for a schminute now, they always feel so bombastic and silly, you can’t help but laugh and lock in. Glad you enjoyed!

I found myself playing over and over again, mastering the timing on the bonus level, I might say Gerbert Croski himself would be proud of my performance. The boss pathogen that had you repeat the pattern got me the first couple of times and then everything clicked. The visuals are fun, the sound design and the music are very pleasant. Love the project and had so much fun playing. SICKNESS IS MAXXED OUT!!!

Developer

I’m sure somewhere, out there, Gerbert himself is smiling down upon your score…

Thanks so much for checking the game out!!!

This is SO fun. I loved it and cackled at the interview in the medium article. I challenge anyone who reads this to beat my score 293K on SLIME NET >:) and I am in awe of Acute Scrumbosis, whoever that might be

Developer(+1)

Acute Scrumbosis, huh? Wonder who that could possibly be……….. 😈

Anyway, glad that you enjoyed! Thank you so much for your time and feedback!

Submitted(+1)

the worldbuilding goes crazy, from the medium article to the poster to the actual game itself. speaking of, it's a fun little game that hits the arcade spot just right!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! The worldbuilding/article/lore was some of the most fun I had during the whole jam. I'm glad you got as much out of it as we did!

Nice one Scrumbo! Very fun mechanic, and good variation with the bonus slime and the mutagen stage. Felt like I could probably keep playing and getting skilled at it which is nice and makes it very replayable. I'm not really sure what you were going for with the MC changing I think from like a heart to a brain or something? But it all fit the theme of the immune system well. I would like to see you experiment with adding some more juice to the lazer and bullets and enemies (like enemies tweening in, bullets having a death animation, lazer tweening in) instead of it all just appearing/disappearing, but it's a game jam after all! Nice work man

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for your time and feedback! I've tossed the idea of a DX version around. if I were to work on it more, even more juice would be at the top of my list!

Loved this one! Super engaging and satisfying gameplay loop and the encounters with the boss pathogens and bonus event helps break up the levels to keep things fresh. Vibe is great too, love the approach for SICK being illness and how you ran with it in this game. Big Osmosis jones vibes and that is a complement that movie rocks. Also huge props for bringing back the online leader boards, even though it may not be period accurate it does help bring a sense of community within these jams which I always love to see. I did have a few graphical issues when playing in full screen with the camera occasionally looking out of bounds and the submit high score buttons appearing off screen, but that stuff can be buffed out and really didn't impact the core gameplay. Overall very good submission guys this was a blast!

Developer

Thank you so much for your time and feedback! It always means a lot coming from you! Still gonna have to beat you up tho :/

I haven't been able to play yet but I REALLY WANT TO, but windows is telling me there's an extreme risk of virus with the download (not a message I usually get) and won't even let the zip download. I might look for a burner laptop just so I can get my game on:

Details:

Trojan:Script/Wacatac.B!ml

This program is dangerous and executes commands from an attacker. This threat can perform a number of actions of a malicious actor's choice on your device.

Developer

This has been happening with a bunch of the jam games, for some reason! Im really sorry about this, But I can assure you the download is safe! Some of the other Jam participants and I are looking into the root of the issue.

If you turn off Real-time protection in the Virus and threat protection menu in settings, it will let you download and run the game. Just be sure to turn it back on when you've finished!

The atmosphere was set immediately by the music and the little touches of animations on the start screen. That combined with the heart wearing sunglasses really made me like I was in for something cool and *vibey*. I'm a sucker for anything body/biology related and the art really nailed that cartoony 90s fantastic voyage plot trope that I love so much. Gameplay was simple and fun. +1 for all of the lore building surrounding the game, especially enjoyed ":Dr. Gene Sequence".

Developer

I couldn't remember the name of the movie where they go inside the scientist, THANK YOU! That was gonna drive me insane. Glad you got as much enjoyment out of the lore as we did making it!

oh bonus slime... your presence brings me moments of respite, yet this feeling is only followed by indecision... do i erase your warm, kindly presence from my sight, or do i enjoy the fading time we have, away from the evils of this world...

I LOVED THIS SO MUCH! the ui at the beginning made me so excited to play, and i wasn't disappointed at all! once i would hit round 20, my heart would beat so hard trying to hit everything i could. im really glad y'all added the online leaderboard, cuz that incentivized me to get placed (which as of writing this, i believe i am 4th (: ). i also loved the effects of the laser dropping spark-looking things after hitting something, it just added so much more to it all.

i think the only issue i ran into was that, at first, i didn't understand the simon says pathogen, but after the first time i understood. most likely that was just me tho lol

im absolutely gonna be trying to place higher on the leaderboard, just you wait....

(p.s. i hit the bonus slime every time babeyyyyy no remorse)

Developer

Thanks so much for your time and feedback! Glad you enjoyed, I'll be keeping an eye on the leaderboards for your score!

VERY FUN arcade style!! Reminds me a lot like tempest (which is literally my favorite arcade game!!) Also why is the heart cheeked up LOL

Developer

Y'know, having stared at Mr. heart for the past three weeks, this is the first time I'm seeing the cheeks... but i can never un-see them...

Submitted(+1)

Very addicting and fun! Mechanics were easy to understand without explanation and had a siiiiick vibe

Developer

Glad the game was as intuitive as I had hoped it came across as! Thanks for your support!

I like how quickly it was to get into this game. The concept was really unified and cohesive. I enjoyed the art and gameplay thoroughly. Very nice work!

Developer

Thank you so much for the kind words!

Love this one you guys! The gameplay is very good - very punchy, intuitive, fun, and a good challenge. I dig the music too! I especially like the "pathogen" lil like, miniboss!

Developer

Thanks so much for checking it out!

Love the literal use of SICKNESS in this entry. Overall, a great little package. I didn't play enough to get in the Top 5 of scores or know exactly how far it goes, but I'm assuming it continues in waves rotating through the three organs. Good use of the bosses, and I liked the switch-up with the final one! Visuals are strong, the transitions and the bonus make the gameplay loop feel addicting, and just overall very tight game design and presentation. Another Scrumbo classic!

Developer

Thank you so much for your time and feedback! Glad you enjoyed!
