I liked this game. Short and sweet :)

Tho getting hit is a bit unforgiving as the stun lasts too long

Thanks! and what a time! :)

Good game. Really like the art and the music.  But I found it quite difficult.

I like that you get knocked down if you hit a snake instead of losing a life or dying. But I agree with others in that it lasts a bit too long and you often hit multiple snakes getting stunned again and again.

But it's a really nice little speedrunning platformer. Just the right length for practising the perfect run.

One of my favorites I think, good aesthetics and nice variety on the snake patterns. Awesome that you made this is Pico-8 and for some reason the falling animation and damage noise was somewhat addictive. Great game!

Very fun and beautiful game. Music is cool as well. Always love games with  pico 8 :) Too sad that I'm really not good at playing it :D

Very fun game! The controls feel great once you play a few rounds. Getting stun locked while falling feels a bit bad though. One suggestion I'd say to make it a bit easier is to give a small invincibility window after the initial stun from getting hit. That way the player has a chance to recover instead of falling all the way to the bottom due to getting hit by multiple snakes. I enjoyed overall, though, good work!

I agree with this, I think you would need a bit of invincibility or maybe when you are stunned and are not climbing then you cannot get stunned again. Also it felt a bit weird to me that there was no score. Maybe if you added a "Highest Climb" stat it would give an incentive  to the player. In the current set up it just records where I am in terms of height and I did not feel I had a reason to play because there was no stat that showed me "Your maximum height was..." I feel if this was in the game it would be very very addicting trying to beat your maximum height after you have fallen and would make you want to climb back up the ladders to pass the height you set for yourself. Maybe replace the timer with "Highest Point Reached/ Highest Climb" Stat

Thanks Yuneek, Peaqueueare! Both awesome suggestions. Yes I will put these both in for a post-jam release ... I was really struggling to get the game finished towards the end and didn't have time to go back and polish and think about decisions such as these :)

Yeah I get that

I liked it! Solid gameplay and aesthetic. I still can't get very far though.

A great twist on the classic Snake! The jumping is a bit frustrating when trying to leave from the ladder, but aside from that, really love the creativity and aesthetic! Love that you went with Pico-8 for it too :)

Nice Pico-8 game, still love this kind of game, and Snake, ladders are very remind games of my childhood [Lehomar2vinci from our team]

I hope you'll be enjoy our game too ! ^^

Great game

Thanks! I'll be sure to check out your game!

Really like the retro aesthetics and it's a cool twist on Snakes on Ladders. I think it's a bit too hard though, especially since the snakes' movements are so unpredictable

Developer

Thanks BootleBen! The snakes all follow a repetitive pattern (not random) but yes, I think it's a bit hard to predict where they will go, especially for some of the snakes with larger numbers of waypoints ... I'll have a think about how to make them more predictable for a post-jam update!

This game is amazing. The best entry I've seen so far. I SUCK at it but maybe I'll stream it anyway if (/when ;)) it reaches top 3 just so people can laugh at me

And I'm excited to see what it looks like when someone who's not absolutely terrible at video games plays it XD

Love it! the retro asetchics are AMAZING! also a great twist on a classic game. Only thing of note is that the game is a bit small by default on the itch page, though the full screen option solves that problem when you find it xD

Submitted

I mean, I like that it's a bit small because so many games that I've seen are way too big for my computer because I can't afford that high res of a screen

And as you said the full screen option solves that, but yeah I think if it was a bit easier to figure out how to full screen it that'd be nice

Developer

Thanks! I upped the screen size a touch ... was my first time uploading a game on itch, so wasn't super sure how to do this.

Really cool to see a pico 8 game in here.  Love the aesthetics, though it starts a bit too hard for my taste.  Would have liked ~20m at the start without snakes just to get some practice with the controls, and maybe ramp up the snake speed as you get higher.  Overall, great work!

Developer

Thanks dwhiffing! I didn't spend enough time planning and balancing out the level :) ... thanks for suggestion of having a bit of snake-free space to begin with ... I'll put that in a post-jam update!
