I'm so glad it made you feel this way! Thank you so much! <3

Retrouvaille Discovery is quite something... Mark my words.

I mean, I don't want to overlook your work for the other tracks; Fanfare has a great sense of call for adventure (I actually like a lot the brass staccato sections), and Retrouvaille is a nice climax and a very round and consistant end for the soundtrack and the journey...

BUT MAAAAN... I can't hide my favoritsm for Discovery. I LOVE the sense ofexcitment and danger it provoques, and the mixture of orchestral, plucked synths and the choirs caught me totally of guard. It works so frkn well! Its fun, imposing and courageous. I just wish it was longer, it's definetly one of my favorite tracks from this jam ^^.

Again, very good job with your soundtrack overall, is very well produced, it has a very clear sense of progression, interesting instrumentation and feels very consistent. Sublime!

Sublime?! Wowee! This comment has been sublime! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! If this isn't the sort of thing that gets you motivated to get up make s*** happen I don't know what will! First on my list: expand and develop Discovery! Thank you so much! <3

The fanfare is really big and grand, really catches my ear!

The synths in Discovery caught me off guard at first but they sound really, really nice with the choir! It's got a solid beat too, reminds me a little bit of Terraria!

I dig the more somber tone of the finale. I personally am not a huge fan of opera but you've executed it really well here - I found myself quite enjoying it!

Overall this is really well produced and is a great experience to listen to! Excellent work!

Developer

Really appreciate your kind words!! Thank you so much! <3

This is awesome, really enjoyed all the choir parts in particular. The electronic elements in Discovery are really cool too, they create a nice foundation for the orchestra. Awesome work!

Awesome! Glad you like it! Thank you so much <3

very nice work.

Very different, like the use of choir voices. I really liked fanfare just wish it was longer and didn't cut so suddenly at the end.

Developer

Initially, I wanted each track to flow into each other but then I changed the style of the second half into something more electronic which ended up becoming 'Discovery'! I made this decision because for a 3:30m long track I didn't have enough time to develop the melodies and solidify those motifs. I really want to put time aside these next couple of weeks to develop this OST even further! Thank you so much for the comment <3

I really liked it, specially discovery... augmented chords never get old xD

Cheers

Endless wonder and excitement! I think the functionality of the augment the 4th time comes around acts more like a 6 flat 5? Haven't had much of a play around with that cadence :D great fun though :) Thanks so much <3

This got better and better the more I listened to it! Very pretty sound- I would love to listen to the soundtrack if it were expanded upon.

I absolutely adore Retrouvaille! The chord progression throughout- especially at the beginning of the track with the piano solo and when the strings come in is just absolutely awesome! Like everyone else has said pretty much- I typically don't like the implementation of vocal stuff unless it is like performed live- but it fits really well here! Great stuff!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much!! Yes and like I mentioned in another comment, I just kinda felt like it needed vocals, even if I don't have opera singers sitting in the back ready to go. Can only dream right? :D Thanks again for the kind words <3

A lot of nostalgia in the first theme which announces an adventure full of emotions. The choice of instrumentation is original, especially for the vocals, but ultimately it works perfectly. The second track takes up the colors of the first track, with this much more modern percussive addition: a pity that this music is so short, it would have deserved to be more developed. The third piece looks more like a victory jingle, both for its length and its epic side. The whole thing makes you want to have more, which is the perfect sign that the music is successful. The first piece remains, because of its melodic content and its duration, the reference piece in this OST. Well done !

Developer

Really appreciate your kind words! I will seriously consider putting some time aside in the weeks ahead to flesh out this track and expand it! Thank you for this boost in motivation :D

Great work, good melodies and solid arrangement. While it's on orchestral side, it doesn't feel like some default orchestra soundscape, which is good!

On the critical side I'd like to notice that Discovery is a bit too heavy on the top end of the mix? I think it is mostly because of a very loud lead (brass I think?). Comparing it with 2 other tracks they feel well-balanced, but this one was a little harsh, caused me a bit of ear fatigue.

btw you have tracks in reverse order in soundcloud playlist. And I'd suggest that if you upload music there, leave 1-2 seconds of silence in the beginning — SC has annoying bug of cutting first second of the track.

Developer

That's awesome to hear thank you so much!

Righteo! I'll have a look into that thank you so much for pointing it out. Might be because I've got so many lead instruments going on at the same time, maybe would've been better to drop the trumpet down an octave? Maybe!

BTW !!! I tried again to use the link to your Soundcloud this morning but it still doesn't seem to be working. We still got 7 days to get this sorted so no sweat but would love to take a listen!  :D

Yeah it wasn't working but I believe now it does.

Developer

Ahh yeah! The one on your project page is working correctly I'll give it a listen now! Double-check the one on the submission page though in the "Link to streaming services" tab <3

I felt the same way about the mixing. But didn't worried about it too much to write in my own comment, thanks for taking your time! ~

YOO loved that first piece. The color there is so delectable. That leap to a m6 in the melody is sweet, but then it sound like you have a major 7th scale degree in the harmony even though you're in a minor key! But are you?? because then the melody hits that raised 3rd when its coming to a close. My brain!! I need to understand this!

Side note: That piano composition was so beautiful. I want a score of it lmao.

Developer (1 edit)

Hahaha!  Glad you're wracking your head around one of my tracks that's awesome to hear! Thank you so much :D Yeah, when in major key it's great to go from the major to the minor subdominant. Add in the 6 and drop it an octave and you got that inversion of the IIm7b5! The bittersweet chord! I don't write many tracks in the major key but when I do I use that chord at least once. :D

Side Note (Side Note): 7 days to wait for everyone's score is going to be paaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin

Awesome, love that. Thanks for the theoretical explanation, I’m definitely going to play around with that!

Submitted(+1)

Cool feel, Discovery was my favorite out of the three tracks

Developer(+1)

Really glad you enjoyed it! It was fun putting those electronic elements into something which was intended to be orchestral! :D Appreciate it <3

Submitted(+2)

This is insane!! So original and expressive. Can I ask what VSTs did you use?

Developer(+2)

Aha! Thank you sooo much! <3
Sure thing! For all tracks, I used East-West Opus. It's the update to the Play software that comes with some added features.  Right before they announced it I was looking to switch to Spitfire for all my orchestral stuff because I couldn't justify the monthly price for EW.  So I'm unsure if I would recommend it still? I notice artifacts every now and again from the samples which are always my biggest pet peeve with EW.

All the synths I used modified Serum presets and the drums was Logic Pro X's drum machine designer! I was stoked to see tons of new samples and kits added to the drum machine :D

Very epic, emotional, and overall with interesting vibes and unexpected sounds. I think I would play this game, or at least I would be very curious to try it, since it has a lot of character :)
It is a bit eclectic, and even if that's also a good thing, sometimes it feels like the OST lacks a bit of coherence, but I am sure more tracks would have helped to bring your whole idea to life.
This feels just like a glimpse into something much bigger, but I say that as a compliment. Good job!

Yes, definitely agreed! I thought it was odd to put that electronic track in the middle, but I love switching up styles or adding odd elements to otherwise, pretty standard orchestral music. Thanks for your feedback! I may consider expanding this after the jam. <3

Submitted(+1)

It's beautiful! I'm not a fan of vocals like this in music, but it fits well :) Instrumentals are awesome! It's so emotional. Good job!

Developer(+1)

I always try to refrain from using vocal VST's but I just felt like these tracks needed them! Thank you so much <3

Submitted(+1)

What a beautiful submission! The operatic voices sound great and really add a sense of scale. Though I wish I knew a little bit more about the imaginary game this OST is for.

I think Discovery was most intriguing for me and resonated the most, but Retrouvaille was extremely tender, which I like for an ending. Well done!

Developer

Thank you so much! <3
