Did you work in a team?
I made the entire game solo :)

Was the resolution a challenge?
The hardest challenge was level design, and having to make puzzles and combat encounters in tiny rooms

What did you learn?
I experimented with worldbuilding and storytelling this time, and had a lot of fun!!

Interesting zelda inspired game, the NPCs have personality and from what I had got to play so far, I liked the various weapons which provided a metroidvania-like progression. It did seem a bit hard to dodge ranged attacks at close range, maybe some indicator they are about to shoot would be useful. Also with the edges of the each area, there are many parts where it is looked like open space to walk through but it was blocked by a tree etc on the other side. You can't see until you walk up to it, there were also parts where the map was just blocked off but looked like there was an opening. Might be better just to show the visible barriers within the players FOV. Also I wasn't able to move getting stuck on the left stump at the second boss, had to restart but realised the checkpoints were not save points, maybe something to check out too but great effort so far.

Interesting gfx style, and the mood the grumpy voice sets from the beginning is quite good and stays with you the whole game. It’s a bit hard to identify where you can move screens and where you can’t, the yellow paths hint helped there. Much deeper that I originally expected, and nice music (that changes for different zones…) too! Very nice entry!

But I need to know what happens ;-; I got all 4 fish and was missing one more weapon. Also I only managed to get 3 hearts and one more heart piece? I must have missed some rooms.

Great game, great atmosphere whish there was an ending I thought I'd broken it because the seal wouldn't take my fish ^^ Great game!

this awesome game! I really appreciate what you did alone in just 2 weeks. the gameplay is fun, the art is nice.

My only problem is when the barrier is covered by a screen or HUD, so I'm often fooled by an open road that I thought I could pass but I couldn't, or you can but it has to be in the right location because the barrier isn't visible.

overall, great job!

Finally got around to playing this and it was amazing! The art and world building are both fantastic and really suit the style of game. Unfortunately I think there was a bug where I didn't take any damage? Still though I thought the combat was designed really well. I liked the level design as well especially with how open it is and the optional heart containers. The abilities were also good and I really like how they tied into the boss fights! One thing I had an issue with is seeing where I could walk between screens since some were open on one side ad closed on the other. Maybe having the openings synced on each side or and indicator of some sort would help there. Oh also the sounds and music were great and really added to it. Overall though it was a great experience and a lot of fun! Looking forward to playing it when you have the official ending done!

ahh!!! Not taking damage was a random bug that popped up, I fixed, it popped up again, so I refreshed the page and it just… never popped up again

considering this bug to be my new nemesis

A pretty solid zelda-like game, I enjoyed it a lot! The story is pretty interesting too. I hope you get the time to finish it!

A huge game, with a good balance of fighting and exploring. It takes a long time to assess the full depth, so I’ll have to come back later. And here’s another thing, I don’t know what it is, a bug or a feature:

Developer

that.. definitely a bug... But good on you for exploring!!

Thanks for playing :)

Very ambitious for a 2 week Jam, for sure. You said you went all in on this in other comments. How many hours do you estimate you put into this? It shows you dedication to you vision. Nicely done. I hope you are pleased with the results, you should be.

Developer

Thanks I really appreciate the kind words :)

Most of my work happened in the final 5 days or so of the jam, but I did work on it at least a couple of hours before that. But for the final day I put in ~15 hours and was working till 5 am, but it was definitely worth it!!

I'm proud of the content and story, I just wish I had cut back a little so I would've been able to polish it more!

I liked a lot of things in the game, but in my opinion the main character moves too slowly.

Masterpiece! Kudos for you for making sure there was a frog-type game in this years low-res jam 15/10

Incredibly fleshed out and lively world with great characters, incredibly pleasing pixel art, and some of the most fleshed out audio ive heard in this jam. It would be nice if the character moved slightly faster than molasses flows uphill, although it does make the first powerup you get really satisfying. Room transitions and collision can be the slightest bit wonky sometimes: when positioning yourself right you can skip certain music triggers. Sometimes rocks respawn behind you as you enter a door (like the heart piece blocked by a push rock near the desert). The first boss was great, fit the theme of the world and looked cool while still being a fun but fair puzzle boss. It would be amazing if at some point save files were implemented when reloading the page, given the length of the game.

Developer

Thank you so much I really appreciate the kind words :)
As you can tell I kind of fully invested myself into fleshing out the world and adding content... which came at the cost polish (I didn't even manage a title screen in time!)

Something to note for future jams though!

This is amazing! I'm going to have to come back to it when I have more time because it's worth really digging into. I can't believe how much game you got done in a couple weeks, not just in map size but mechanics and types of play. I love how the items you get have multiple uses, like the charger breaking rocks but also letting you get around quicker. Also the music is perfect. The whole thing really took me back to obsessively playing Link's Awakening on my Gameboy for days on end, and in my mind it doesn't get much better than that.

Developer

Thank you so much!! I may have been a little TOO ambitious, but I did pour my heart and soul into the game over the short period we had.

I hope you enjoy the rest :)

Berwn’s a kind spirit, the kindest I know! It’s a shame Afagddu mocks her so…

Oh my gosh I had no idea when I started that someone could make Zelda in two weeks!

The map is essential, and the game as a whole was a delightful experience!

I unfortunately got stuck between some tiles while fighting the first boss, and my save didn’t seem to load when I reloaded :(

Other than that though this was incredible, great work :D

P.S. The music was incredible!

Ack!! Thats the biggest issue with making such a huge map in a two week jam... funky collision..........

Thank you so much for playing, and for the kind words :)

Where exactly did you get stuck?

Submitted

Between the bottom left rock and the wall while fighting the turtle boss - I wish I had a screen shot but I reloaded too quickly :D

I really like it. The lore and the atmosphere work great and the aesthetic fits the early low resolution games I typed into my first home computer. It was sometimes a challenge to know where to go and where I was allowed to go which had me wondering around the map hugging the sides to find an exit. Apart from that, the experience is a real pleasure. Great job.

Loved the style of the music and the graphics!
Impressive usage of the small resolution by having
the inventory expand to occupy the whole screen
and have zelda-like transitions across levels/areas.

A lot of love has been put into each detail to make it
look simple but charming at the same time.

The download took quite some time to finish.
Using the browser's developer tools I saw the game's PCK
weights around 90-100MBs!
Maybe some assets could be compressed/reformatted
to reduce the size?

I got stuck quite early in the game though
(attaching a screenshot in case it is a bug and want to fix it)

Developer(+1)

Ack! Darn that Sneep...

Thanks for letting me know, I did fix that :)

And yeah if I had to guess it was definitely all of the music that lead to the large size! The godot plugin I was using was a little old, so all of the sounds in the game had to be pre-instantiated or else it would randomly crash.

Thanks for playing!

This is a huge game! I'm very impressed by the amount of content you were able to make in two weeks. The biggest issue I ran into was that it wasn't always clear where the screen exits were. The biggest culprit here was the first screen, where the first times I tried to leave to the north I couldn't because you could only exit from the tile with the pebbles on it. Other than that, I had a good time with it.
