Heya Golden! Pretty fun little game overall. I really liked your control scheme! It felt unnatural at first, which I think is completely normal, but once you get the hang of it- it's really quite comfy. I know you're gonna be taking a break for a bit, but I hope to see you in some other GWJ in not too long! :P
Solid entry, and see you soon big guy! ^^
Nice entry. The aesthetics were amazing. The game make for a good start for a Castlevania like.
But I have some remarks: The platforming wasn't good (The player feels non responsive). The Boss feels boring, it's just a hard version of the skeleton that have a long health bar. A bit of transfromation when he lost some health would be good.
Overall the game seems good, I hope you continue developing it.
Congrads for the submission.
The game looks great, the sprites are fantastic. Sound is really good too. The controls were very hard for me, I'm not a good gamer so it just added to the difficulty. I did not see the end boss although I would have liked to see it's sprite and animations. :-(
I did pet the doggo though! :-)
Nice job!
Nice game. Controles are a bit odd to me as I'm not used to WASD as I'm left handed and use arrow keys to move in most games, but I understand you need to use both hands to use controles. graphics and music are nicecreates a nice 80's-90's vibe. played and rated, feel free to play and rate my game too.
Nice little metroid-vania, the first I have seen for now! Graphics and audio are really well put together, the atmosphere is nice.
The game felt a little unfair though (some platforms are located at the maximum of your jump height so it is tricky to reach them and the enemies chain-pushing you backward as you enter their hitboxes is pretty frustrating).
Is that only me or the boss doesn't disappear when you kill it?
Overall, a very solid entry, especially when having in mind the short deadlines. It reminded me of my childhood games, I spent a good time! Congrats!
Fun! Lots of fun. I love mythology-based games. The controls were really responsive and nice to use although they took some getting used to. I enjoyed the variety in the players moves. I also loved how the story unfolded gradually and how the world communicates with the player - very well done! And I'm very happy I got to pet the dog - I think I got lucky with that one!
Super fun ! I like the norse mythology setting, the controls themselves are pretty tight, the control scheme is a but unusual but once you get used to it it's allright.
Pixelart and music are both really good, overall the game feels like it strikes the right balance between challenge and fun, though some of the jumps are a bit on the hard side.
I had fun anyways, i managed to reach the end, and i found the dog :) (or maybe considering the setting, fenrir makes a cameo i guess ? :p )
Solid entry, good job here !
Hi Golden, here’s the review :) It’s the first game I try out from you.
Congrats on the game, I think so far it is the one where I had the most fun!
Theme is …respected but not obvious, I know you’re already aware of that. Honestly I don’t care, I didn’t like the jam’s theme much because it was quite close-minded. Our composer came up with the idea of making a Mafia game which I really liked and I was tempted to make some action-based game around that (nice that’s been done by others).
Anyway the core platforming gameplay is well-implemented which is probably the most important aspect. I like that I already found speedrunning strats on my first run :D
Animations and hitboxes looked quite precise which is important for the genre. Difficulty was well set, and I’m glad the boss was that buggy XD
As I said in the Discord good control scheme, although my brain was too used to the “space = jump” paradigm in the beginning.
I know you didn’t make most of the assets but they look nicely put together and it’s quite complete with the background etc.
The game was quite lengthy for the short amount of time you had to spend on the level design, so good job on that!
Congrats! My average rating should be like 4
Yo Golden, this is so much fun! I loved the air roll mechanic, I felt like it gave me more options but was also super challenging. I also really enjoyed the animations.
Loved it! The controls were responsive, although the control scheme was hard to get used to.
It was challenging to get past the level before the boss. Felt like one of those old platformer games where the developer just tries to find ways to make the player rage quit (Which is a good thing for me) .
I managed to kill the boss at the end, but it bugged out so the boss just stood there with no health.
The art, animation, and music were well integrated into the game.
I had a lot of fun playing this game!
Solid entry, well made! :)
I had a chuckle when it said "now for a challenge" as I was already having a hard time of it!
I think the style is consistent, game play feels solid. I don't play games a lot these days, but are those standard control layouts? As Ozzadar mentioned, I spent a lot of time at the beginning trying to remember controls.
This was quite a blast to play, was very challenging! Felt almost like a mix of old school Castlevania and Megaman mash up or something. Was able to beat it after a few deaths. The controls do take some getting used to, but I find if you are very focused and delibrate with your actions it becomes quite fun.
Also, why did you hide the dog way up there? I almost missed it! XD
I think I got the boss into a pattern where he just stood against the wall and let me wreck him? Either way the platforming was great. Really solid entry was fun!
Very well put together; though I really didnt like the controls. You could have merged some of them together to make it more traditional. Also I think crouching is something that is needed in some spots
I think you were going for a difficult game; though I felt like I was fighting with the controls -- which felt a little unfair at times.
I had fun though =)
