How does your game fit the theme?
In Little Man Behind The Screen, we reversed the role of the gamer himself; YOU play as the level designer. A game critic is playing your isometric shooter-game, you are INSIDE his computer, and your job is to make sure he enjoys the game he is playing by editing unfinished levels to redesign a more enjoyable experience. In simpler terms, you play a puzzle game

It's fun to imagine something like that happening in the background of a complex game. I had some issues with the controls, but I enjoyed it and I like the idea.

Developer

Gald you had fun, we rushed the controls becuase we had alot of other stuff to complete, thank you for the review!

Super creative and fun idea, well done! However the controlling aspect would have been much smoother with just dragging blocks around rather than awkwardly having to move the character around to pick them up first. Which was also thematically bit confusing since the character was the same as the actual player. Big props for so much voice acting, rarely see that in jam games.

Good Idea, it wouldve costed us less time too XD but we didnt think of that at the spot, but thaanks for then suggestion~

Really good concept and I liked the voice acting and the story... good luck with the jam :)

Thank you very much!

Nice core concept of the game, the meta humor felt a bit tacked on. The game was a bit buggy and the UI made it hard to place blocks at times but I like the core idea a lot.

Thank you very much for the review!

Really fun concept! I'm not sure how well the mechanics tied in with the narrative cuz in the end I did just feel like a player trying to block the robot from getting shot. However, the story and voice acting was top-notch and was fun to go through even with the glitches.

-Enjoyment: I LOLed when the critic said "BAGUETTE!" Sometimes the controls felt a bit janky, but still was good times.

-Creativity: Very creative Idea!

-Presentation: Looks great! and the voice acting is really done well and makes it quite fun to watch/listen.

-Neat game indeed!! Please check out my non-creative entry when you can :D

Developer

Haha thanks for the kind review! Glad you enjoyed it ;3

I'll check out your non-creative game my guy xD

I loved the simple story and the voice acting, the computer parts freaking out as everything broke was motherboarding hilarious.
I did encounter a few glitches and frustrations, such as the block not placing, the critic getting stuck when he shouldn't have, and the loading screen covering parts of the level, but still enjoyable.
Also, you can say any glitches that are there are totally intended.

I love the GPU aspect of the game. The flipped screen at the beginning was lit! Also kudos to the voice acting. The way they said "baguette" I lost my marbles lol!!!

Great concept, the voice acting had me hooked instantly, it was great! Unfortunately I get a black screen after the second level though so I wasn't able to progress :( I enjoyed what I did play though!

Developer

You can just click during the black screen and it will continue the dialogue, unfortunately it's like that yea ;D, thank you for the review!

It's really unclear how the game's supposed to work, though I figured it out on the second level. Since the story is that you're fixing the game, I didn't think the player was supposed to be the one to pick up and place boxes.

Really nice game! I loved the voice lines, great work! :D

Interesting idea for a game, but I found the game a bit difficult to control. The controls sometimes felt unresponsive, or the protagonist wouldn't start at the beginning of the level. I did enjoy the dialogue, it was humorous.

Good concept and well done.  The only issue I had was that sometimes I couldn't pick up a block.  It usually worked once I approached the block from a different side.

Great game! It felt like two games in one with the narrative of the CPU. Im sure my pc feels like that at times haha! Excellent submission, good job!

I liked the voice lines with all the different parts of the computer communicating with each other, it added a lot of flavor. The aesthetics and graphics, while simple, serviced the game well. The idea of rearranging the level was also neat and I liked that, when the critic hit a loading screen, the player character would reanimate itself and start where he left off, like it was waiting for the critic to lose so it could go about fixing it. If you ever decide to finish it up by adding the levels you said you weren't able to add, maybe an additional way you could interact with the level beyond adding and removing boxes would be cool as well.

I wasn't able to finish the game, however, due to glitches. I was able to figure out that when I got a black screen that I could just press the left mouse button to continue the dialogue, but I also ran into trouble in the actual levels themselves. The HUD elements (loading screen, directions, etc.) appeared way too big for me and blocked most of the upper half of the screen. I don't think this was intentional or even a glitch with the game itself. It was probably an issue because those elements were readjusting based off of my screen resolution which could either be a problem with the web version/resolution of the web version, or with the game's reaction to my monitor's resolution which, I will admit, is pretty old and doesn't have a common resolution. In the end, I had to stop playing because of a glitch that stopped me  from picking up or placing down boxes (I had similar glitches with my mechanic beforehand, but none were game-breaking).

Anyways, I could really tell you had a blast making this and I'm glad that your enjoyment seeped its way into the game. Good job and good luck with the jam results.  :)

Awesome game! The premise is really creative and the voice acting excellent! If you had had the time to iron out the bugs, it would have been a perfect submission for this jam!

Voice acting 10/10! I love the reversed menu buttons lol, the whole game was a little hard to play / understand what to do, but it had a lot of charm :)

The story, the writing, and the voice acting are all just... magnifique! I especially love what you did with the fan's voice, where it sounds like someone is actually talking through a fan.

Admittedly, I did encounter a number of bugs during my playthrough (unresponsive block-placing, mismatched text/voice acting, messed-up formatting while not in full screen, etc.). That said, considering the game's premise, I couldn't help but see this jankiness as one big meta-joke. I don't care if it was intentional or not, it just fits.

I'm also a huge fan of the music! Definitely reminds me of the Figment soundtrack by Bedtime Digital Games.

All in all, *chef's kiss*/10
