How does your game fit the theme?
Flip 'N' Burn is a deck builder where every card can be flipped for an opposite, more powerful effect, but at the cost of "burning" (losing) that card for the rest of the fight. Reversing the cards reverses the effect!

the mermaid was stuck on ice wall, and when I paralyzed them, the vampire's paralyse quote came up, it's really fun thouguh, and the art's great!

some of the 'per turn' things only applied once instead of every turn

Developer

Hi! Which things were these?

I'm glad you replied quickly though

I just realised, it meant that the buff would last every turn, not that your buffs would go up every turn (like, your rage would always be +1 to every subsequent attack, not +1 on turn 1, +2 on turn two and so on), sorry

Developer

No problem, it's just as valuable to learn that it's confusing. We're constantly looking for ways to improve the game so we'll make sure to make this clearer in our next update. Thanks for clarifying!

This character-design is adorable! :D I really enjoyed the art of the game.

It has a really great core mechanic too! Burning cards for a stronger effect creates a lot of interesting situations and possible strategies. Plus the difficulty is well balanced enough to provide jst enough challenge but allowing some "mistakes" here and there.

The main issue I'd have is the presentation of attacks in the UX. There were a some time were I did not understand why me or the enemy would lose a certain amount of health, or shield, etc… I actually lost because the move of an enemy announced that it would just make a shield, and instead I apparently lost 13 HP? Every effects being instantaneous, it isn't always easy to keep track of them, and some animations to display some "-2", "-3", etc, associated with the card or enemy action, would help.

But globally it's a very solid entry! A really fun card game, with interesting cards and lovely artwork. I just want to play it again to take my revenge!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for the feedback! You losing HP - was this the Siren fight? If so this is unfortunately a bug where she's set incorrectly to attack when she should be shielding, sorry about that!
We'll be working a lot of the UX post jam to hopefully make everything super clear, as we don't want the game to feel unfair.

Thanks for playing!

A very nice submission. The art is pleasant and the mechanics are interesting, and although I had only a vague sense of how shields worked, I was able to make normal RPG buff decisions and succeed. On my second playthrough I was much more aggressive with the flip sacrifices, and it worked out. The only reservation I have is that it could have used custom music, which might have been better fitting.

The artwork and gameplay mechanics for this were really good! It was also nice to know what move the opponent would play next and strategize around that.

Really excellent! The art is super cute for both the avatars and especially the cards! The gameplay is really fun and a unique take on the theme, which is done really well here. I have zero complaints, this game was great!

nice card game idea! love the mian char who  look like anya from spy family!!!

that was pretty dope! I like how goofy it was, but it was a bit too easy sometimes. Like to see some more post-jam!

This is one of my favourite jam entries for now. It’s so well done and on 48 hours you made so much content and variety. I like every bit of it. Just wonderful.

The art and the enemy themed cards are really neat. The burn mechanic is pretty cool. I wish there was a bit more visual feedback with some animations/particles, like when a debuff gets applied it would be a bit more eye catching if it played an animation, or some screen shake or damage numbers when you are hurt. I didn't understand how much damage enemies were doing to me at first till i tested it(I saw the '3 snakes are aggressive', but on my first turn of ever playing the game I didn't immediately know that would mean 3 damage, but hey maybe im just dumb lol). The enemies were fun to fight and the final boss was a surprise. Good job!

I love the art style of this game! It's really nice and I can see the time spent on the art itself. I love how detail the characters are, which makes them very memorable. The main character reminds me of the MC from Spy X Family, called Anya. I feel the game lacks music, and would be so much better with music. Gameplay wise I think it feels like slay the spire, I am able to defeat with using a lot of the flipped cards without any downsides, so maybe game balancing will be ideal so that players like me do not win all the time by using this tactic. Maybe implementing some sort of penalty when using these cards, (yes more than burning the card), will make players like me think twice before using the reverse effect of the card. Overall, solid game, love the art style for sure and definitely would love to see this game being expanded on.

Thanks for all the feedback! I realised that the main character looked a bit like Anya so I made a deliberate reference on one of the cards >:D
We'll probably opt for only adding one card in the future per fight to help balance it, but with the number of fights I wanted people to be able to try a larger number of cards in just one playthrough, but that does push it on the easier side.
There is music in the game, three different tracks - did it not play? Could you hear sound effects or was it all sound? We've not had anyone else report it, but if it's a bug we'd like to fix it!

OH NO TURNS OUT MY BROWSER AUDIO WAS OFF!!! IM SO SORRY. I have listened to the music and SFX. I love the SFX! I can hear the sfx when I attack and do things. In terms of music, I think it was good initially but overtime it felt very repetitive. Maybe different music tracks for each different unique characters will definitely make the game shine even more!

Anya!! Definitely any ways of balancing the game and make it not so easy for the player is ideal! I can instantly kill vampire guy in a few rounds. But definitely understand the reasoning for having more cards to showcase all the lovely cards you have made!

Overall, really love the game and would love to see more of it :D

Developer(+1)

It's so easily done isn't it? 😂 Okay I'm glad, one less bug to fix!
Thank you so much for all the feedback! I'm keeping a big list of it all because it's really helpful, so I appreciate it!

Interesting concept and fun! Absolutely love the artwork and found it very charming!

This game is pretty cool, but I didn't understood the game after I read the rate page 2 times. It could be interesting, but some enemies attacks are just unfair, for instence, the siren just keeps spamming attacks, and I was running out of shields.

Oh yeah, if you lose, you lose ALL of your cards you gained from the previous attacks, so the game isn't even possible afterwards.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Losing all your cards is not intentional - that's a bug. Sorry for that, but thank you for pointing it out, we'll make sure to fix it!
At the moment, enemy AI picks a random move from a list, and those moves can do variable damage from a range. It's weighted to try and be as fair as possible, but it still leaves room for bad RNG unfortunately and we didn't have the time to make it more precise. Sorry you weren't able to finish, but thank you for playing!

Edit: So I've now discovered the Siren is mistakenly set to attack when she should be shielding. That's another bug and is likely what made this fight difficult. Very sorry!

Loved the game! The artwork was beautiful!

Did the fourth enemy attack with his block instead of his attack sometimes? I felt like I debuffed it's attack enough to survive but it struck hard. Managed to beat the game in the second attempt though - regen+poison build seems great :)

Followed you in hope of a post-jam version!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much!
So I went into the project to check, and yes, you are right - The Siren is supposed to block, but instead is mistakenly set to attack. Thank you for pointing this out, we'll make sure to fix it!
And thank you, we'll be updating the game to add extra cards, rebalance and fix bugs for sure!

This is such a creative little card game, I'd honestly love to see this extrapolated into a more full game, there could be so much more to explore with cards doing different things on either face, perhaps deviating from the reverse roles of just heal-damage, buff-debuff, etc.

Interesting risk vs. reward mechanic that I haven't quite seen before in a turn-based deck builder. Lovely art style as well, a super pleasant presentation. Great work!

Very nicely made! The art is really cute and the mechanics are compelling. This was a lot of fun to play!
