This is very good! Very polished... actually perhaps too polished; why does this look so slick! I think the game itself is good too! It feels like a legitmate boardgame ala chess that just fits the theme nicely. AI was good, although i beat it. It acted in clever ways and killed some of my units, even almost beat me one game. I'm sure it could be improved (seems like the kind of game that might be AI complete) but its a jam, wouldn't expect that + OP AI is bad design.

You might be on to something with this game, could be further expanded post jam maybe even turned into a real board game. Games are a bit short thought so maybe rules should change a bit for longer battles. Great game, Wish you best!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I think the AI is slightly too easy, but there's always local multiplayer which is the preferred experience. I'm even working on online play & custom AIs for the post-jam version.

This is really fun, and presentation is top-notch! Well done!

Thank you very much!

My main feedback would honestly be that the music is very loud, and I wasn't able to turn it off (though that might be a wine issue instead of an issue in the actual game; but I don't think that's very likely).

That said, it's definitely a fun idea!

Developer (1 edit)

You can turn the music off in the config menu. Thanks for the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

I should probably have said so in my comment before, but yeah: I did find the option in the menu, but it didn't do anything - the other option that was supposed to change the menu style also didn't do anything by the way.

Developer (1 edit)

It will only take effect when you hit play or restart the game, my bad design I guess, sorry. BTW, I guess you're using Linux, what distro is it (just curious)?

I'm using Arch with i3 for windowing, which means it's using X11 and scales the applications directly after they are opened if it can (due to i3 being a tiling window manager).

Also, it's all good! It *is* a game jam entry, and if bugs like these weren't something to be expected; and this one really isn't game breaking either.

Developer(+1)

Nice setup! Thanks for the feedback.

Wow what a creative game. Honestly I was really bad at the game when I started but with time I got better, it was like intense checkers.  If you add a detailed tutorial section that teaches strategy after the jam it would really polish off the game!

Developer

Thanks! I'm working on much more for the post jam version.

I LOOOOOOVED THE GAME!!! I loved it’s audio, it’s logic, it’s implementation and the game play!!! I hope that you succeed my good dev! All in all, 1000/10 for me!!!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so very much, really appreciate it! Already working on improved AI, new game modes & even online play for the post jam version. Good luck to you too in the future ^^

super interesting idea and implementation of the theme!  Would like to play this 2 player and see what sort of strategies emerge.

Developer

If you click on game modes there is local multi-player!

Submitted(+1)

I really like the concept of the game and the UI was really nice! The AI is easy but the game was made in 2 days so I can forgive that. I would love a 2P mode. Online is way too much to ask but that would have been cool to play with other player in lobbies.

Developer(+1)

There is local multiplayer if you click on the game modes button! I'm working on online play for the post jam version.

ooh I forgot to check the game modes afterwards haha.

Developer

No worries ^^

THE GOOD (what i liked, and what stood out for me):

I really enjoyed the premise of the game, and as far as I've seen, board games were a pretty rare concept taken advantage of in the jam! The ui was clean and the game had a nice mix between being fast and slow paced, sort of like chess! The gamemodes allowed for me to play with a few of my friends, and the rules seemed quite intuitive, which is a definite bonus. Great job for going 3d in some parts as well! I felt very little frustration during the game, as in nothing really put me off playing the game, which is what usually results in 3 star ratings in some categories.

THE BAD (what i disliked, the bugs, and other problems):

The AI that you had to play against seemed pretty lacklustre and repetitive, making the same move throughout the game in one instance. Maybe adding difficulties, and making some more intelligent moves? Perhaps even some randomisation to the moves it makes? There was a lack of sounds in the game, which, although helped improve concentration i guess, did make the game feel a bit empty. Adding some sounds would help add impact to the moves you make or the buttons you press!

THE HARSH (stuff that would just make the game better, usually just personal opinion, don't take it too heavily :D ):

Although this is a board game, the usual dose of player feedback and game juice can never hurt :D. Perhaps try adding bouncy effects when you attach a rope to the pieces, or adding a tally to the number of counters on each person's  side, adding vignette if you only have 1 or 2 pieces left. that sort of stuff.

OVERALL: An interesting, thought-provoking game. A solid 4,5,4 from me! Well done! I saw your comment from the other game, and thought I'd check out yours too! :D

Submitted(+1)

oh yeah and the menu was really unique as well, and the buttons popping in, very well presented!

Developer

Thank you so much, really appreciated! The AI is WIP right now with a much improved version (previous version only looked 1 move ahead, new version can be adjusted for difficulty and has some more randomness), also planning online tournaments and even more gamemodes. There are also some SFX when doing moves but I think they may have been way too quiet so my bad lol. I'll definitely check out your game next! ^^

Submitted(+1)

I was really surprised by how involved the menu was, it's pretty cool and definitely unique! It took me a bit to figure out how the game worked while playing the AI but I do think it has a lot of potential to be deep when playing against real people. Well done

Developer

Thank you very much!

A very original idea! Agree that the AI is pretty easy, although it did scare me for the first few turns :D Having a simple AI is still way better than having none, though, so kudos for that. Nice visuals on the background, but the sudden color changes are a bit painful for the eyes and perception in general, maybe change that to smoothly transitioning colors? Anyways, good job!

Developer(+1)

I'll add that to the accessibility options. Thank you for the feedback and thanks for rating! I've already made the AI much smarter, though it's still quite buggy.

I really like your game! I like the art, the music rememberd me at plants vs. zombies xD

the winning animation is cool. The Ai is very easy, but still good for the short amount of time!

you have a typo in the help tab -> "you will have to move on(e) of your marbels onto..."

General a very good game for a gamejam!

Developer

Thanks for catching that! And yes, the music is inspired by Grasswalk, I'm also a big PvZ fan.

I really enjoyed this game, the visual twist at the end of the match was a really cool addition that made everything feel retroactively a lot more polished, visually.

I feel like this could be a blast to play with friends and is just overall a really cool concept that takes that board game feel and executes it really well in a virtual space.

Awesome job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much, I really appreciate the feedback! Hope I can also get to rating yours soon. ^^

This has a LOT of potential. First of all the UI is SO cool. The mechanics are complicated at first. The AI is pretty easy to read and beat once you got the hang of it.

Developer

Thank you, I had a feeling the rules were a bit complex, but otherwise the gameplay would have been pretty unidimensional. The AI is super dumb because I've never made this kind of AI before and I didn't really have time to make it look further than 1 move ahead. Glad you enjoyed it! ^¬^

Submitted(+1)

Very interesting mecanics and presentation

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you so very much! Hope you enjoyed ^^

Submitted(+1)

I like the Menu! Nice Game, the AI could need a bit help. only moved one marble in the top up and down :D and this background 😵

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Yeah, the AI turned out to be quite a bit too easy... The game is mostly meant for multiplayer. Thanks for rating, hope you enjoyed the music!
