Nice Idea. The game is a bit to slow for my taste.
How the dead revival mechanic works? I'm sorry but I didn't catch the point with the theme... Nah just kidding, this is a good idea. :)

On the one hand, I can see the low movement speed and jump height as being indicative of the player character's sadness. On the other hand, it's still makes it a chore to go back and forth trying to collect the stars, especially after getting hit.
I think the way you designed the game and used to game mechanics to support the theme of loneliness is really clever!
The fact that you made a multiplayer game single-player is hilarious. The art reminds me of this old Nintendo game "Drawn to Life" which was neat.
Funny you should say that, because I based the stars in The Sad Duo off of the stars I drew from Drawn to Life 10 or so years previously. The only difference is the stars here have a blurred border.
Pretty funny idea about lonliness. However, if you cant do your own art enjoyable, use free assets. There are a lot of great assets here on itch.io. Secondly, work more on movement, now it's awkward and not enjoyable. And the last moment, do several small funny levevels instead one giant which is pretty boring, especially, when you're alone.

At first i was like "but there is noone to revive". Pretty original but you gotta have some more graphics and sounds.
