I felt a bit slow and weak for an alien.

I do appreciate a solid bit of stealth though. But I do wish that attacks were more immediately lethal. Like sneaking up to perform the perfect strike and instantly kill. Or desperately striking as a last ditch effort to stop certain death.
But, I did like the idea.  Last game I got to review. :D

Developer(+1)

Looking back, I really should have went for a more stealthy heavy focus, but regardless, thanks for playing! :)

I like the atmosphere you set-up with this one, the music fits the plot well. I'm a sucker for games where you play as the monster too, so that helps. I did feel the player's movement speed was a tad slow but overall, very fun game to mess around in.

Developer(+1)

I was thinking of adding a sprint, but didn't have the time for that.
Glad you enjoyed it! :)

I really liked the atmosphere of the game and the brutal game design.

Developer

Mjeesss! Suffer!

Amazing atmosphere! I'm a huge fan of the xenomorph universe and I really enjoyed this game. I'm not sure why but sometimes my hit were registered and I could one shot a humans but sometimes it could a couple of hits. But other then that it's and amazing concept with some nice hand-drawn animations. Good job!

Developer(+1)

There are 3 types of enemies, each having more health than the next one and you do a critical hit if the enemy hasn't spotted you.
Thank you for playing and glad you enjoyed! :)

Submitted(+1)

I never imagined playing as the alien monster would be more tense than playing the humans. Nice atmosphere!

Developer

lol, was waiting for this comment! Hahaha

Submitted(+1)

I was a little disappointed at first if I'm being honest! I expected the agility, speed and endurance of a Xenomorph, but it was a bit slow and died with two bullets :-( Other than that, and after I played a couple of times, I found it to be quite immersive.

Really cool tension and atmosphere! Turns out, I am terrible at being a killer alien.

Developer(+1)

This ain't an easy one

Submitted(+1)

Very nice atmosphere, music fits perfectly. Some great ideas in there but slow movement + long respawn times are a bit annoying!

Developer (1 edit)

Yea, a lot of people complaining about that, but glad you enjoyed regardless :)

Submitted(+1)

There are a lot of really cool ideas here, and the art is rough, but charming. Very competent.

That long death + game over + intro every retry was a pretty brutal punishment.

I never got the hang of the stun. It never seemed to be effectual with how short the enemy stun time is compared to the length it takes to both stun and hit. I ended up abusing the door to kill the final boss.

The soundtrack is atmospheric!

Good work! Congratulations on the submission.

Developer(+1)

The trick to to the stun was pressing p only ONCE while the attack animation is playing and vice versa. This ques up the next action, making sequencing easy. There is a slight issue with this system where if you do: attack, attack, stun quickly, then it will result in attack, stun, attack. Because it prioritizes stun as the next action.
Thank you for playing, Clark! :)

Pretty good atmosphere and a fun setting. I agree with some earlier comments where a faster respawn time would be helpful- it added an awkward pause to the gameplay. It was fun seeing you talk about this game in the server!

Developer

Although content wise, there isn't much to this game, my goal was to focus on small atmospheric details like the door jamming. I've always enjoyed games that do that and I wanted to replicate that. I'm glad you noticed and appreciated this! <3
Regarding the respawn - While I will make the boss slightly easier, I will keep the respawn time. I think this gives time for retrospection and to collect yourself.

Great atmosphere, awesome soundtrack!

Saw someone call it "Alien Hotline Miami", which felt apt!
With that in mind, and the fact that I keep dying all the time, i'd love a quicker respawn time!

Add diagonal movement to that and it's a wrap!

(read your responses and realized that i could gain health by eating! Now I've almost managed to kill the captain!)

Great concept, would love to see it expanded upon!

Developer(+1)

Yea, I think I made the captain a bit too hard. I'm curious to know if anyone had the nerve to defeat him (without cheating :D). You have to get lucky on the heals to get full hp and then nail the slash/stagger sequence:
2xA, 1xB, 1xA, 1B, reason for this being that his raycast in on his left gun, meaning that you can get more hits in when he staggers to the left.
Good luck and thank you for playing! :)

I liked the idea, and the soundtrack creates a tense atmosphere that suits the game. There could be more room for maneuvering; I felt everything was a bit cramped. A smoother camera movement would also enhance the experience.

Good game!

I'd also like to add that on my computer, the browser game appeared very small.

Developer

Noted and glad you enjoyed it! :)
I will add a downloadable after the jam. Also, there is a fixed resolution version linked in the description

Really cool game! I kept an eye on it from the progress channel in discord lmao! Nice to see the finished product, I think the player should have a little more HP, I was hit and immediately fell apart but felt spoopy!

Developer(+1)

Really glad to hear so many people enjoyed it!
I, honestly didn't expect such a positive feedback for my first Jam game.
The first kill is intended to be a stealth takedown, after that you can replenish your health eating

Cool game! It's like Alien Hotline Miami! Stealth games are not really my thing, I was really hoping I could be the predator and feel super powerful but I can appreciate what you are going for here. Nice work, thanks for making this!

Developer

Thank you! :) :)
I actually had the idea that you could play as either alien or marine. Predator would be the hardest to implement with all the abilities, but would totally be worth it

Submitted(+1)

Just beat the crap out of the allegedly “final boss” through the closed door :D

Developer

Uh ohh, that's a bug :D

Submitted(+2)

Pretty hard :D I liked the stealth mechanics, though one enemy was tracking me through the wall, which seemed odd. Really well fitting music :)

I didn't like the tiny window, because I had the option of either playing it in a tiny resolution, or fullscreen, which was way too large for me to play comfortably. Other than that, it played well :)

It's a cool entry, I enjoyed it :)

Developer

Oh, that's a bug then. :D
Very happy to hear that you enjoyed this! :)
Also, there's a fixed resolution version that I uploaded separately at Invasion (fixed)[GBJam 11] by Algedi-Studio (itch.io)

Excellent music. Cool stealth implementation.

Here are some suggestions for improvement:

1. The main character moves too slowly.

2. The camera is too zoomed in. This doesn't give the player much situational awareness.

3. The health bar is tiny and far out of the way. It should be easier to view without taking your eyes off the action.

4. The enemy health bars look like a part of the environment.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! :)
Regarding the first 2 points: This was an intentional limitation on my part, giving a greater sense of mystery if just for a few seconds :  "Oh, I wonder what's around that corner...." and also giving a bit more challenge of map awareness.
3. - Totally agreed. This is fixed in the upscaled version ( in description)
4, - Yea, I bet the hp bar could be executed better. Maybe dither the border or something
