Hey! We played your game on Twitch yesterday.  I'm always glad to see narrative games in jams, it is too under-represented :'(

Great entry! I particularly like how each part feels disconnected with its own graphical style while still being part of the same story. IMHO it is well written. Even though some parts of the dialogues feel a bit academic, you obviously understand how to set a tone.

The fact the game kicks you back into the title screen at the end of each chapter is weird. Maybe you can find a different way of presenting the overarching story.

If there were some kind dōjinshi scene at the time, I'm pretty sure this could've been the kind of game we would've had. And it would've been quite cool.

Keep up the good work!

The little part of the game i got to play hooked me up, I made sure to talk to every character and i really liked the bits of story i got to see, though I think i'm playing the game wrong or something since after certain dialogue i go back to the main menu, so i couldn't see some of the parts on the screenshot, anyway, I liked the graphics and the music too!

Developer(+1)

every time you go back to the title screen, it means you finished that story. You’re supposed to go to the other stories then, or you can go back to the same page and explore more if you want. Once you finish the story, you hit “finish entry” to go to the final room and get the epilogues to the story. I’m sorry I didn’t make that clear enough. I should have added some tutorial elements to help guide the player. Thank you for playing and the kind comments though!

Wow. Looking at the screenshots now... apparently there was a lot I missed. :O Maybe I got the short ending?? That was super cute and very very sad.  :( I did really like the charming characters and exploring the house. Gave me me some "Gone Home' type vibes, but for GB, which I really liked!

I don't mind dialogue, but I think what would have helped me was knowing better when I was in 'dialogue' mode and 'interact' mode. I think because of the way the dialogue box hid away off screen between each main dialogue beat, I kept thinking I was in control again, and would start trying to move the cursor, but then I couldn't, and  another dialogue line would appear. This started to lead to a feeling of frustration and annoyance with the text, rather than fully enjoy the conversation. Maybe if it indicated which character was talking without hiding the dialogue box until the player had control again, I think that would have felt a lot better.

Love the colors and overall vibe!!

Thank you very much for the feedback!

The game goes back to the title screen any time you finish the one of the stories. You’re supposed to go back in and read the other stories, then click “finish entry” once you’ve done all four stories. I’m sorry I didn’t make that clear enough. I should have done some kind of tutorial element or some kind of marker that showed completion progress.

Thank you for the feedback as well. I did put some “wait” commands in there to help the pacing, but I can see why it was a frustrating experience for you. I’ll go back and fix that to prevent that. Thank you for the detailed response!

Submitted(+1)

Yeah... and I think you definitely want some beats in there to help with pacing and timing... but maybe keep it up and have a "...." between those lines? Eh. idk. All I know is when the box hides completely, I still had my cursor there and thought I could move, so it just became trying to move it constantly to see if I had control back. :P

Also... no worries at all! I'm impressed by how much is here! I'll have to go in and try the other entries now :D

I get what you mean, and I think you make a good point. I'll see if I can rework it so it doesn't do that. Thanks again! I really appreciate the time you took to play my game and the help you gave me to make it even better. :)

I only played the first stage, and it looks promising so far ! I'm not really the kind of player that reads a lot of text with a very small text box.

From the screenshots, it looks like the gameplay completely changes in each stage, so I could play more.

Also I really like the interpretation of the other theme, didn't really saw a game that has an interpretation similar to that.

beautiful!

I saw some pictures on twitter and I wanted to try it!

Thank you!

I really enjoyed playing through each chapter and seeing Lara's life at different stages. So much detail, character and heart has been packed into every scene! This was a really cool and unique interpretation of the plant theme, and I especially liked how you explored themes of love and grief to create a very memorable experience.

Developer

Wow, thank you so much for the kind feedback! Comments like these really made this whole experience worth it, no matter how this game places. You really made my day. ❤️

Developer

Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!

Graphically, there is a lot going on here that is impressive! Palette swaps, sprite style changes, animations, and so on. You are all really talented.

Narrative games aren’t my cup of tea, but there is a good bit of variety in story-telling and scenes so I was able to keep going which was nice. It was cool to see this game interpret “plant” from a poem.

Developer

Thanks so much for the kind words! I’m glad that there was enough to keep your interest despite not being something you actively look for. I appreciate you taking the time to play it. ❤️

This is really well presented tho this sort of drama isn't to my taste tbh. I loved the point and click chapter and kinda wish to make something in that art style xD

Great story! Well done!

Thank you!

holy heck, you made this in less than ten days? that was amazingly beautiful. the snarky lines also cracked me up in the marigold story.

Developer

Yes! I wasn't doing anything else so I had most of the days to work on it. Thanks so much for the kind words. <3 I'm glad I could make you laugh too. :)

They can't take Herbet with them? :(

Actually my first time playing a storyline type game and looking out the window really resonated with me! Thanks!

Developer

Aww, I should have included Herbert in a later section, but didn’t think about it. I think I’ll give Herbert a little epilogue now lol.

I’m really happy that it resonated with you. I’ve been through a lot recently and just wanted to feel understood in some way while making this game, so thank you for saying that. I really appreciate it.

This was a nice experience. It's great that each chapter has distinct gameplay and looks to match the beautifully written story. Congrats!

Thank you!

Really interesting concept and touching story. I had an issue with the second chapter where even after I got the keys the dialogue with amanda stayed the same, not sure what I missed there. Anyway, enjoyed the rest! :)

Developer

Thank you! As for the Sweet Pea chapter I'm not sure what's happening there but the ol' standby of "click everything until you find all the goodies" seems to work. Oops.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for the kind words! Amanda mentions that you should make sure not to leave anything, so it’s a hint to check everywhere, including in the bedroom. You need to find another item before Amanda will let you leave, and I probably hid it too well lol. Thank you for the feedback. I should have made the feather animate when going over an interactable hot spot, so I’ll do that once the jam is over.

Submitted(+1)

OOOOOOOH! haha, ya I did click on everything that looked notable, so indeed it must've been pretty well hidden. Another way to assist in making people double check would be a different dialogue accepting the keys but then saying something like "are you SURE you aren't forgetting something?" But that's just a suggestion from someone who doesn't play these kind of games much. *shrug*

Developer(+1)

oh, that’s a good suggestion! I’ll add an additional hint just in case then. Thanks for the help! :)

Saw this on twitter and the color palette was beautiful and I enjoyed the queerness of the game. Also really enjoyed the diegetic notebook that was created for the menu!

Developer

Thank you!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! I’m really glad the queer aspect of the story spoke to you and you liked the diary. :)

Point and  click on GB, very well done.

It's always nice to see narrative games in jams, I play it a little bit 'cause I wanna try it on my gameboy, but I loved what I played

Developer

Thank you so much for trying it! I appreciate it. :)
