Love the bullet cut-scene-to-target. These are things I only dreamed of doing. This is a complete game mechanic. Nice way the action is focused in the scene.

Thanks for the kind review!! I'll be releasing an updated build soon which contains some QOL improvements, namely the ability to see all collectibles, sensitivity adjustments, and predicted projectile bullets to help prevent bullet cams when there's not a definite hit!

By the way, the bullet cam I implemented is actually deceptively simple, the bullet object has it's own camera and when fired, we set the bullets camera to be the active one and slow down the time dilation, if we hit something then we spawn a target camera which looks at the object we hit, then finally after a short delay we switch back to the main player camera and restore the time dilation!

Well done ! The mechanics you propose are well executed, and gives some challenge !

Developer

Thank you for the kind words :)

This was a good game. It think that bullet time did not work for me, happened even when I missed, and took just highlighted my mistake. I ended up turning it off. I also had a bit of a problem with the sensitivity of the mouse. A setting to let me change that would have been nice. I think overall it is a good game. Very good shooting mechanics! I like the fact that they ran away when I shot near them and missed, good touch. Keep up the great work.

very ambitios game! I really liked the feeling of distance you were able to realize through the scope and the bullet time - and by having such a big terrain as well of course. Finding those hidden bottles was probably my favourite part, especially when i got a bottle bullet time ;-)

killing 20 dudes who weren't able to fight back at all wasn't really my cup of tea though
(i did it anyway, so you did a good job corrupting my soul ;-)

Developer

Glad you had fun with it! I did initially want to give the AI some way of shooting back at the player, but ultimately I thought it would just detract from the main bullet cam mechanic so I scrapped it, in the end I'm glad I did! Those soldiers are very dangerous "elite" soldiers 😉 they just forgot their weapons!!

Very polished indeed!

It was a bit unnecessary to show slow-mo when missing target.

But wow this is such a well-balanced game. This is amazing that you done in 10 days :)

Very well done

Developer

Thank you for playing and for the kind words!

I tried to get the bullet prediction working but ultimately I wasn't able to figure it out so I disabled it, after doing some other QOL patches I decided to have another stab at it and managed to get it working 90% of the time, so it eliminates most of the failed bullet cam shots!

Fun shooting times! Thanks for sharing this.

Fantastic game! Well polished for a jam game. I had a lot of fun playing it!

Submitted(+1)

I loved this game so much! Maybe an option to see all the enemies, bottles and gold with a white outline (Or something like that) finding the bottles was hard lol!

Developer(+1)

that's a great idea! I hope I can add that in post submission, I'll ask the jam team

Developer(+1)

I'll be releasing a build soon with this very option if you wanted to check it out again!

Submitted(+1)

Yeah id love to see how it looks! Glad mu suggestion got in the game haha!

Submitted(+1)

really nice sniper game , the lighting (or post process?) was a bit too strong on the eye for me , but other than that fun game , maybe add a stability/breathing mechanic ?

Submitted(+1)

Awesome game, it was fun. I will just remove or make that the shoot cinematic is displayed less. Feel free to check out my game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing man! There is actually an option to disable the bullet cam or reduce the frequency, to improve this I wanted to make sure it only happened on successful shots but I had trouble reliably predicting this with it not being a hitscan bullet.

I'll check your game out tonight!

Idk what engine you used, but maybe you could use Raycast (i know thats a method in Unity)

Developer

I used unreal engine however the problem is that the bullets are projectiles and the enemies can be moving, on top of that there is also a bullet drop toggle so it would need to account for that too!

There is a node called PredictProjectileMovement but I couldn't get it working so I scrapped it!

Developer

I managed to fix the predicted projectile movement so it works much better in 1.1 (soon to be uploaded!)

Could have played this for hours easily. Really well executed!

Developer

Thanks for playing and the kind words!

Very cool game! Addicting and satisfying gameplay! My PC tends to have a hard time with Unreal 5, but allowing for graphics settings (which I had to turn down low) made the experience nice and smooth for me, so thank you for that!

Developer

Glad you enjoyed! I know what you mean, mine struggles with it too, its rather intensive, I may have to upgrade my PC soon 🤣

Glad the graphics settings helped!!

Submitted(+1)

I've tried several Unreal game submissions from this jam that were completely unplayable because of the <10 FPS framerate, so your game was actually very smooth in comparison. I'm glad I got to enjoy it!

Developer(+1)

I just watched the stream of you playing my game 😃 I just wanted to clarify the 50 and 10 points situation, it's 50 points per moving target and 10 per stationary target, and this doubles if you have bullet drop on for the increased difficulty! The other thing I wanted to mention too was the zoom level can be controlled through the mouse wheel which helps finding targets quicker!

Regardless, thanks for playing and was cool to watch!!

Submitted(+1)

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!. It was fun, the last bottle took me a bit of time to found it :P

Developer

Thank you for playing 😉🐔

A really neat game! Good job on producing this in such short time! I will definitely dig into your code to see how you did the benchmark test! If I could add something it would be a toggle for how quick the bullet time camera is! I love the feature and would like to see it often but it takes a tad to long for my monkey brain °^^ But you already did great with the options you have! Another neat feature would be a range finder or how it is called so I can scope in on a location and it gives me how far that point is that way it would be even cooler with the bullet drop enabled!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

The benchmarking part is actually really easy with UE blueprints, you get the results with this node:
https://docs.unrealengine.com/5.0/en-US/BlueprintAPI/Settings/RunHardwareBenchma...

And then apply them with this node:
https://docs.unrealengine.com/4.26/en-US/BlueprintAPI/Settings/ApplyHardwareBenc...

Super simple!

I agree about having it speed up or be skippable, and yes I ultimately wanted to add wind to the game and did have that working at one point, but I just couldn't get the prediction to work so it was very hard to shoot without some indicator as to where the bullet will go, so I scrapped that.

A distance / range finder would be awesome too. I actually had the bullet drop tuned to the notches on the scope, then at the last minute I added zooming in and out which invalidated all the tuning I did 🤣

Submitted(+1)

I really have to look into UE at some point! Haha as things tend to go with Game Jams!

Submitted

Great submission!

I liked the overall look and presentation of the game. The cinematic was awseome!

I also enjoyed the shooting, and bullet cam, however the bullet cam not going fast or being skippable in my experience was not fun.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yeah I think it would be a good submission to either make it skippable or speed it up, you are able to turn it off but speeding it up would be a big positive for the game.

Really fun, love sniper elite. Great job with the bullet cam.

rate4rate?

Developer

Rated! thanks!

Alright, you've had your fun... now tell me where you hid the 10th bottle.

Developer

🤣 thanks for playing, did you find the one shown in the intro on top of the rock? If you did already have that one, the only other "hidden" one is in the back guard tower, you just have to move over to the middle to see it.

I originally had some in some hard places but I removed them as I knew no one would find them! The rest are either on the tanks or walls/containers!

Submitted(+1)

lol it was the rock one. Winner winner chicken dinner regardless - fun game, thanks!

Submitted(+1)

Nice level design and overall gameplay of shooting things from a far. This is really well done for a 10 day game jam and I wish to learn from this :)

Developer

Thank you, feel free to download the source and check out the project :)

Submitted

Congratulations on your first jam!

Enjoyable little game, I loved the addition of the benchmark, but also sort of accessibility options in the settings. Always nice!

The game itself was fun, I love being a sniper in FPS games, but I'm usually not quick enough to snipe actual AI/human players who are shooting back at me, so I had a great time just casually sitting back aiming and shooting things.

The bullet cam was great, too! Really impressive little polish there.

As for possible improvement; perhaps a mouse sensitivity (especially while scoped) would be nice :D

Good luck in future jams!

Developer

Thank you!! I agree about the sensitivity slider, I'll see if that's something acceptable to patch in post submission as it's technically not a bug fix but a new accessibility feature. Waiting to hear from one of the jam team :)

Submitted

Great game! Really love the bullet cam mechanics. I had a good time searching for the secrets too. I would have loved more levels, but in 10 days, great work!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback!
