I was able to kill 8 slimes! It wasn't easy :).

I think an initial tutorial level with a description of the mechanics and goals would improve the gaming experience.

The graphics and music complement each other well and improve the gameplay! Quite innovative!

Maybe a cooperative mode where each player fights slimes on their own platform - it would be fun :).

It was fun, although not for long :D. Congratulations!

I love that you have a README and License file (main criteria for open source category). Maybe just add a little more into your README, such as screenshots or even just what's on your submission page: https://liminaldirectory.itch.io/slimy-scales.

Super random, but I enjoyed the "admire the artwork" button 😅. Graphics are cute and colourful and not too over the top (OTT). I like the interesting take on a platformer game with balance; great use of the theme too. It's be great if you can start with just one platform for the initial level (or even have a tutorial level) to get the hang of the physics, and controls.

Great job and the music and sound effects really topped this off.

Very cool little game. I really like your interpretation of the theme and it works very well. I also liked your description on the itch.io page, the variety of controls and the options in your menu. Here are a few inputs from my side which might improve the game:

  • Difficulty: I would turn down the difficulty a bit. I know it might be hard for you to believe, as you practiced the game quite a lot while developing and testing it. For somebody new, I think it is quite difficult and I managed to get only about 1 minute of play time. Especially for game jam games, it is important to tune the difficulty all the way down. Most people rating the game will not take a lot of time to get better at it.
  • Slime timer: Based on the difficulty mentioned above, the slime timer would not be needed for me. I think the game is difficult enough. However, I think it is a good idea to offer an additional game mode for people who need a challange.
  • Platforming mechanics: The movement felt a bit slow sometimes, especially the jumps. For a platformer the movement is the most important thing and I would recommend to spend some time into it to make it very smooth. I found once this video which I think gives a good explanation on some platformer concepts:

Congratulations to a very cool game. I really liked playing it!

Nice game! The game's clock seems like it's tied to fps. It gets pretty crazy on 240hz :D I had to bring my monitor down to 60hz to feel normal.

The movement was weird at first but got used to it. I do think the attack's hitbox could be a bit bigger/or the player keeps their momentum when attacking

Love the different slimes

That was tough, until I realized I was playing on frantic mode xd, I think the normal difficulty wasnt that easy either tho, I think the character movement couldve been a bit crisper but otherwise really nice game!

I started the game in frenetic mode by mistake too, i was questioning my abilities haha. The normal mode is better for my skills. Control were fine, no difficulty there. Great respect of the theme.

Nice game! A small QoL tip. In the menu instead of "selecting a mode" and "start game" it might have been better to just have the button to start a normal or a frenetic run, and then have the normal version as the first one in the menu. I started the game in the frenetic mode without knowing so, and it was very difficult! Also, since I didn't read the itch page description, I wasn't even sure why I was dying.

Nice job you did there! Good idea to fit the theme with the scales at the same time you need to balance between actions. I like it. The hard move is a bit difficult though, even for the hard mode :) Maybe you can add some power-ups?

Love the concept of this game! The interface and overall design made it very easy to understand what I needed to do, and the idea of balancing the scale by striking falling slimes is creative!

I also really appreciate the full settings menu, especially the difficulty adjustment -- as  someone who's not very good at action games, it helped me enjoy the core experience.

But for me, sorry that it still a little bit hard to get through to the later stages. (It seems like different slimes will show up) Maybe for players like me, it would help to rethink how health is handled, or consider adding some kind of mechanic to give us a bit more room for mistakes. lol

Good game actually. The music and visuals are way better!!
