Hallo,
Thank you for sharing your game. I’ve already saved its RATING;
1. verified: GAME due to observed in SUBMISSIONS List with keyphrase: Linux;
2. notes: CONTROLS on webpage remind self of TOP GEAR (Super NES);
3. learns: drawing technique to also use 3D, instead of only 2D pixels; adds: vehicle appears to be as that built of LEGO bricks; observed: in STAGE#3, select vehicles are noticeably drawn not as expected due to already below the 3D road; adds: noticeable increase in vehicle movement SPEED
4. observed: noticeable background music that reminds self of MIDI MUSIC; adds: voice-over to be as that of SEGA Rally Championship (Arcade), albeit self had played more DAYTONA USA (Arcade) together and with TOKEN/COIN assistance from Uncle and female cousins;
5. verified: GAMEPLAY to be of driving to reach destination; remembers: after reaching destination of the STAGE, the CUBE checkpoint appears as that used in textbooks to learn 3D drawing techniques, e.g. Astle, D. et al.’s “Beginning OpenGL Game Programming”; adds: remembered 90’s VR racing game (PC), with keyphrase: vehicle and parts quickly destroyed/in-need of repair after even a small HIT; notes: this GAME to be NOT so; adds: MECH WARRIOR#1 (PC) to appear to be so;
6. remembered: select parts in STAGE#4, RAGE RACER (PS1), which self had previously observed;
7. reached: the following to cause END STATE, due to vehicle does NOT anymore move backward to return to the CORRECT ROAD; adds: self to have had to zoom-out the web browser to 67% to get screenshot; notes: PLAYED without the top part, where KMH, et cetera are located
8. remembers: self to at times use computer keyboard and mouse when writing as that with driving a vehicle, where: keyboard is the steering wheel and the mouse as the stick (shift-gear); notes: however, computer mouse NOT used in MAIN GAME
Thank you. Health!
A fun casual driving game. The car movement feels incredibly good in my opinion, and the procedural world generation is a cool idea (I personally haven't seen it ever before implemented in a racing game). Very nice game!
For me the timer felt a bit off, like I was just driving casually and suddenly the time runs out. I suggest there could be a setting to disable it. Other thing is that the places (biomes?) seemed to come always in the same order, I think it would be better if they came randomly. And finally, if you continue the development of the game further, it would be nice if there were some VFX and SFX just to bring that more polished feel.
But either way a very good experience, nice job!
Very chill, relaxing gameplay.
A very cohesive, polished game. Looks and plays really nicely!
I did notice that the hit-boxes on the cars seem too big. I want to pass close to keep my speed up, but I am hitting cars that I am not hitting visually. In fact, when I push my car up against a computer controlled car, there is a pretty sizable visual gap(about 1/4th of my car's width) between them while still colliding. I think this is specific to the green, paneled pickup truck.
very cool and inspiring :) I worked on racing games myself and I like how you managed to get all the interesting decisions of racing games (acceleration vs steering, risk-reward trajectory choices, etc) without actually having the usual big physics simulation in the 3Cs. Congrats!
(not putting a rating on your game as you mentioned it was built it outside the jam)
The music and art style mesh well together. I felt like the game could be more challenging. Your voice overs are lovely. MT option please!!!! rofl. I also did not love how we stopped to do the upgrade i kinda wish it was just fluid. Nice game could be really fun with a bit more challenge.
Not a bad racing game. I will start with the pros:
1. The music. It is very good, it gives this game an atmosphere of Nintendo games.
2. Controls. It is also good here, smooth and quite comfortable.
3. Graphics. It is not so straightforward, it is in the game very little. On the road more than three types of cars (including the player's car) you won't see, so there is no interaction. I'm also bothered by the background in the game, on the one hand it's made by the side, but its rotation with the player over time begins to hurt my eyes.
Now let's talk about the cons:
1. Physics. The physics of the car control is good, but the physics of the cars in the game is very wooden. The cars themselves on the road are static, this is probably done to avoid bugs.
2. I don't understand why, but when choosing bonuses I was unable to choose the bonus with the speed, and later choosing another bonus I could only choose it for the duration of the game, the rest of the game does not react.
Overall, the game is not bad, I liked to ride on the tracks.
Track generation is good. Game is too easy though.
Fun, chill racing game.
Fellow racers :) It's funny how we have a lot in common, but also have focused on different aspects of the genre. I am jelly of all of these curvy turns and hills, no way I could've done this in 2d. It also made me realize how music is important in these kinds of games - I found myself relaxing, just driving and listening to the tunes without thinking about anything. Good vibes!
Nice and polished game. I liked the mix of 3D with Pixel art, the cars in particular are very nice.
A fun game for sure! I really liked the voxel car along with the music. I couldn't quite get the hang of drifting, I mostly just span out when I tried it which meant lots of slowing down for the tighter corners. Probably a skill issue on my part!
Great game! Was really relaxing just driving and avoiding cars. Only issue I really saw was that at certain points there would be some strobing but other than a really enjoyable experience!
Nice one :)
Fun game! Really enjoyed the low poly 3d aesthetic and the soundtrack was great. A few minor things that I think would make the game even better:
1) Echoing the sentiment that others mentioned about the road being a bit nauseating. I spent most of my time playing looking on the top half of the screen b/c of this
2) The AI controlled sportscar asset breaks the immersion of the low poly world you probably worked really hard to create. Even if you swapped those models out for blue-painted versions of the player's car, that'd work.
3) The procedurally generated track on Spaghetti Junction pathed straight through the end-of-level cube and it almost blocked the whole track. This is a bug that could really ruin someone's playthrough if the track became completely obstructed.
4) My car got flipped by one of the AI crashing into me and I couldn't get flipped rightside up to finish the level so I had to hard reset the game. Would be sweet if this could be fixed.
Sorry for the essay! Really fun game and the first level was super therapeutic, ha.
Hey thanks for playing, and thanks for that really useful feedback. I've a quick question - did the obstruction happen with the end-of-level cube at the start of the biome or at the end? I'm fixing this bug now and I think I might know the source of it.
I believe it was in the latter half of the course. I have a screenshot I took yesterday, but wasn't quick enough to get a cap of the original obstruction. You can see it cutting through in the top left.
Perfect thanks - I think I know what might causing that now!
Pretty fun drive. The road was making me a bit sick towards the end. A very abrupt ending. I loved the music and announcer sound effects.
A nice outrun clone, but the strobing road made me stop playing :C
Sorry about that! Will look at making those textures a little less intense
