I enjoyed the theme and it took me a bit to understand the "Reigning" part, pretty clever! Felt like this would be a fun mobile game. I kept tripping up over the controls but it was fun. I liked that shooting the dogs slowed them down haha
I love the physics on the animals, especially the dogs. It's fun that you can use the blaster to slow down/blast the dogs into the air so you have more time to catch them later.
Nice Job.
Cool concept. Great work.
Nice game, I mixed a lot of the controls, when to switch and when to shoot, but that's me and my clumsiness, haha. The Egyptian setting fits a lot with the cats and dogs. Kudos!
Nailed the Cliché theme! I liked the mix of shooting and catching style. Had some issues with the leader board though. It was blank at the start and my name never showed after the game. Had fun playing
HAahaha another one!
Totally different take on the same Cliché I used. Shame the leaderboard isn't working as that seems to be everyones favourite thing about my entry.
I love the play on words.
Can you please tell me what inst working about the leader board? Ive tested it on several computers and its working. I would just like to know so we can learn how to do better next time! Thank you so much for playing!
Oh wow, big team!
Well I was intrigued to come play this because of your JSON leaderboards screenshot. 😅 Sadly it looks like it doesn't even work.
Oh so just read the previous comment about leaderboards being broken right now. Seems like a pretty weird system to only submit the score when you go to credits. Displaying them as raw JSON is pretty funny though.
The dual gameplay having to balance between catching and shooting was interesting and nice. Weirdly unique thing in "genre" like this, usually it's just either or.
Found the controls to be a bit clunky. Didn't have enough time to read the whole intro (on my first plays) so I just had to pretty much guess the controls and what to do. Didn't realize at that point that E/mouse could also swap and was just using ctrl which I found first. Control in combination with arrow keys does something on mac so it's not a great choice for a key and it was 100 times better when I refreshed and found out about using E.
There was this weird (I think visual only) delay when swapping between gun and catching. It really screwed me quite a few times as it didn't look like swap actually did anything so I tried to swap again and then went back to gun and failed to catch. I guess it was when trying to swap right after shooting that triggered it. The swap and catch could also use some more feedback on success, sound at least.
Everything didn't really quite look to the same polish level. The small UFO explosion effect was sweet but and it kinda made everything else look a bit bland in comparison. The player character was also missing walking animation while holding the gun which made it look stiff. The bullets too looked a bit off. Especially how they stopped and remained stationary for a few seconds after hit on the mothership fight at least.
Went for some more tries and looks like the scoring system is kinda busted. The optimal play is to just stay at first mothership and catch dogs infinitely. Going to further waves just increases the spawning speed it seems which in turn adds these impossible to catch moments yet the scoring remains the same.
It's also weird how the "ultimate fight" with big bad mothership is way easier than the small grunt ships. And unlike your descriptions, it looks like only catching cats increases your levels. Well, the upgrades didn't really seem that good anyway.
I did try playing "properly" too instead of just going with the safe scoring route. Obviously this is the intended and way more fun way to play. It's just that the scoring should be adjusted accordingly. Easy solution would be to multiply added score per catch with the wave number.
Anyways, that's about it, good job! 👍
edit: Also now looking at those screenshots, arbitrary number of dogs needed to fail? And the final score isn't fully up to date to what's shown on the top.
Hey! Thank you for playing, the feedback you have is well thought out. I totally agree about the score system, 7 dogs will trigger the game over screen, and the score up top will still add up if any renaming things are on the screen that is why you get miss matched score. Some of what you pointed out we already plan on cleaning up. This was our first project as a team, we are all learning and your feedback will help us grow. The leader board is back up and we added your score in. Thank you so much for your time and attention.
Fun game and good concept. Would suggest adding an option to shoot with the mouse, clicking to switch between weapon and catching is not intuitive in my opinion.
Thanks for playing that would make it feel better i agree!
Heya nice game! Enjoyed the theme, truly got sad when I missed a doggo and it went off to heaven! I do wish the back and forth movement were slightly snappier, but the swapping between gun and catcher was very nicely done! Also not sure if the leaderboard is working or if its just a webGL thing. Either way nice work!
Great points! We're so happy you enjoyed the game and we will be improving it based on feedback once the judging is done . We are working on fixing the leaderboard today and are hoping we can recover everyone's progress too (including ours!).
(Here's how to save your score: When the "Game Over" screen comes up, enter your 3-initials and press "credits".) Thank you for playing!
Enjoyed the layers of wordplay. Took me a while to get used to the controls though as I instinctively wanted to shoot with left click
Rofl i took out the left click to shoot last min too, it was messing up the mobile controls rofl. Ill have to make sure we add it back in! Thank you for playing. <3
I just instinctively used the right-mouse button to swap, so it's nice that that worked (doesn't say on the info page). I didn't see anything telling me that 7 dead dogs is Game Over (and I assume cats with helmets increase the invasion bar, but not if they increase it enough to be relevant? ).
I know that you can't swap after firing, but would be nice to have an indicator or something over the character that say if you have a swap buffered (This wasn't really a problem after getting used to it tho).
I really liked the Theme Interpretation, and the music and art and game setting all worked great together.
Thank you polkagrisar! Those are really great ideas. I'm glad you found some enjoyment in the time your spent with it.
