Liking the little quotes from the bug. The game is easy to pick up and play, and the audio is satisfying. The physics on the car was neat.

Fun game. I like the multi-platform support and extra features like recording.
Nice "platformer" :p I am guessing coding the physics part wasn't trivial for this ! Also hilarious that the bug is driving :D
Thanks! One of the reasons to build the game was to learn a physics library. Turns out it wasn't that hard 😁 https://brm.io/matter-js/
Fun and clever idea, graphics were awesome! Some jolly music would have crowned this, great work 👍
And the car is also important here guys, it's the Beetle! :D
I can't really explain why, but I think I'm waaaaaay too amused at the fact that there's a bug driving a bug. It shouldn't be that funny, but it made me laugh. So, kudos to you for coming up with that concept. Oh, and I had fun playing the game as well! The art, and sound fit beautifully and I definitely noticed a difference after hitting a few red bubbles. I could barely push a little box off of the screen. I learned quickly to avoid them. Very well done, good sir!
This game really makes you FEEL like you're a bug driving a car. I'm glad I got to teach those boxes a lesson, but I do have a few questions. What does the engine strength and whatever do? Because I kept receiving the powerups but I didn't feel a whole lot of noticeable difference. And what is the recording feature for?
Thanks! Driving feel comes from physics modelled wheels and tyres with torque and friction values. If I had more time I would have modelled the engine and drivetrain too. I hope to reuse some of the learning in an online driving sim I am building.
Bubbles came fairly late and likely need to be tuned a lot more but they do all affect the physics model of the car.
Recording feature is in-game video recording. I built the game in the browser mostly on a Chromebook as an experiment into what the web can do these days and gameplay recording felt like a gap in the technology so I built a solution into the game. There's more detail in the dev log I wrote about it.
Thanks for the great comments and questions!
Such a cute little game, so easy to pick up and play and hits all the right spots to make the player feel good whilst playing
Loved your sound design (especially the ladybug voice)! The wheel animation is really cool.
I got a happy feel from the game :) It's simple yet cute and easy to understand gameplay. Nice work!
enjoyed playing! i like the art and sound of the VW bug , the controls are smooth and responsive, the gameplay is fun and has good replay value, overall nice game! keep it up!
Simple but really fun game, I also tried it on mobile and it runs really well. Good job!
"Apart from all of these boxes," Says our English insect protagonist, in his insect named car, "At least it's sunny!" I tend to agree. Some games try their best for a grand scale and fail. Some try to be something that they're not at a stretch. Bugs Vs. Boxes is about two bugs (Our aforementioned protagonist in his VW style Beetle) stopping their nice grassy platform from becoming covered in progressively smaller weights of boxes. How do you do this? Use the car to push or slant them off. This game is exactly what it says, and more importantly, it's very FUN! Powerups, bombs, and powerdowns will also drop. It's one of the ways I know our protagonist is English as well, when he upgrades his Tyres. If you're in the game jam for fun creative and well made games, give this one a look!
