I started Blerx (was called "Brix" at the time) in October 2019 as a learning exercise to get acquainted with Unity and C#. Didn't expect it to go anywhere, but I found it to be actually fun, and thought it might have a life out in the world.

Hope you enjoy!

coming to a mobile phone near you soon!

Very strategic design,  constructed a very self-consistent mechanism with simple elements.

If the bullet speed can be faster, maybe it will be more exciting : )

Very fun and satisfying. I like that the shots can collide with each other! And I love the sound it makes when it bounces between two blocks really fast. I made it to level 22 or so (where it's a pyramid) and got 44k points.

Developer(+1)

Whoa, that's further than I've ever gotten! Levels are random/procedurally generated, FWIW. Nice work.

Submitted

Oh I didn't realize the levels were generated! But yeah lol it started getting pretty tough at that point. I think every block on the screen had 60+ HP and in the pyramid layout I couldn't find any pixel-perfect bounce angles to clear them efficiently, so I just kinda ran out of ammo. It was fun getting to that point though!

Cool game! Really liked the look of the shots!

Developer(+1)

Thank you, I do too -- was going for a kind of "over the top" 80s/90s effect. Glad you liked it!

I have to admit that I was not expecting such a nice game when I saw the BLERX cover image. But this game is a lot of fun. Really like the game and visuals! But the cover image deserves a bit more love in order to make people find the game ;)

Developer

Oh, interesting! Thanks for the note -- I think the cover image is cute but I am very open to any advice you might have. Really appreciate the message and glad you enjoyed the game!

Hm maybe it is just me. I'm not much of a designer but more of a coder and maybe I just miss the point here. Somehow the cover image was not as good as the game is all I can say. Sorry to not have a more sophisticated critique :(

Hey thanks! Yes, it was designed for mobile and the intention is to release it for iOS and Android soon. I like that shot trail fizzle effect too, glad you picked up on that.  Still tweaking game balance, I might have special bricks show up a little more often in later levels, and am considering having your last shot be some some of "super shot" that gives you a chance to come back from the brink of doom... Hope to have these updates done in the next week or two. Thanks again!

Nice job! Fun, polished execution of a simple concept!

This was a fun little block breaking game. I think it shares some similarity to Peggle, which I love as a casual game.  I think some lessons you could take from Peggle are working on the backdrop or level surrounds to make the game environment a nice place to be, and also some feedback for the player when they do something cool.  By that I mean something like a small firework effect or a sparkle when you do something like getting 2 blocks with 1 shot, or  pull off a very long bounce or something (not sure if you're going to work on it more, just a few ideas!)

Developer

Wow, almost forgot about Peggle, will have to fire that up again! Thank you for the thoughtful comment, your ideas are spot-on. There is definitely at least a little more work to be done (finalizing and expanding animations, expanded high score functionality, achievements are all planned, for instance), and I will also consider some  ways to make the environments more varied and visually interesting.  I think achievements will go some  way toward  rewarding a user for doing something cool, but adding some sort of visual or sound effect would be cool as well.  Thanks again, really appreciate it!

Very nice take on the Breakout gameplay mechanic! I like the visuals as well... it was pretty sweet breaking the gold box for the first time! Cool app! ^ ^

Love it!
It's very relaxing to play it...
The aspect ratio looks it will be on the mobile... looking forward to play it :)

Developer

Thanks, it is indeed intended for mobile, and I should be releasing on both iOS and Android in the next few weeks... Really appreciate the comment!

Interesting take on the popular breakout game.

It's like a breakout game with a "puzzle angle". (instead of action)

Pretty fun game.

Developer

Thanks! Was definitely going for a bit of strategic play, coupled with sensory overload. Appreciate the feedback!
