Game looks very nice and the rhythm style combat was fun to play. The Down arrow did throw me off at times, but beside that it is done very well. The different fox art was also good to see.
Overall very good game and you did well making it, was good fun to play
I liked the entry! I didn’t make it though, a ghost fox got me even though it looked to me as the game had just registered an attack of mine that should have killed it. And it felt too large of an ask to play it all again from the start. A checkpoint system when entering each zone would have been very welcome and would probably have meant that I had tried the last zone one more time.
The style was great, including the effects. And I liked the movement and camera too. The game could perhaps have been kinder and ensure that the first normal chicken you encounter in a new region always is the one with the map. But it wasn’t too hard navigating without for a while either.
The rhythm bit felt quite good, and I’m very bad at rhythm so don’t listen too much to my ramblings about if it was on the beat or not. But I do think there’s something odd, or odd going on with the ripost. It seems to disappear when I press one of the attacks that is ahead of it in the queue so to say. And that doesn’t feel right.
In general though very solid and nice looking game.

The box was a little small and couldn't be resized. I had to change my display settings to make it a bit more readable. And I couldn't tell if my Keyboard wasn't able to register multiple arrow keys at once, which may be a hardware limitation for some people. And I got booted out of the last Boss for some reason.
Other than that, really enjoyed this. Dungeon was a little tricky, but not too tricky to navigate. You could usually see where you haven't explored based on the presence of living foxes.
And the foxes were well paced in difficulty, even if Normal mode wasn't too difficult. Not sure if all the foxes had music based on something, but Grey Fox definitely felt like a riff on Mortal Kombat.
Nice entry!
Pretty good, a little hard to navigate (I only found one map hen) but the fusion is solid and I really liked the bobbing and weaving as a part of rhythm combat.
I am terrible at rythm games... 7-tailed fox beat my chickenbutt! I will try it again later, when my fingers will stop hurting hahaha.
Had 2 updates on attack 2 on deffence and 1 on stamina at the end...
The only bug I found is that sometimes, when you run too fast, you able to clip through the walls. Other than that game is well polished, looks amazing, with awesome soundtrack and different enemies. I would totally buy the full version of this game even though my fingers will hate me hahaha!
Hey no worries! After the jam I'll be pushing a couple small updates - hopefully one of them fixes the out-of-bounds glitch. Thanks for playing!
Okay I have to admit it: I am really bad at rhythm games. Had to play in god mode to even see more then just the starting zone.
However the rhythm system in this game is really well implemented and I liked the variations for different Fox types.
Certainly exceeds my expectations for a crawler made in 9 days.
Well done!
I'm glad you got to enjoy it anyway! I put godmode in for exactly that reason - rhythm games aren't for everyone and I'd rather you get to see as much of the game. Thanks!
I looooved this game! I am a big fan of rhythm games. That said, I felt as though the timing wasn’t quite right for the songs. It may have been that I was using blue tooth headphones for recording my playthrough.
I did make it to the 9 tailed fox and… sadly… I died. I was disappointed that there was no checkpoint.
This is definitely in my top 5! Thanks for making it :D
You can watch my full playthrough here: https://youtu.be/VdCjQ1W1gGg
I really appreciate you recording your playthrough. It's super helpful to see someone approach it blind. I really do need to learn how to implement an autosave in Godot - especially as my games get longer. Thanks!
I like the story in this one! I included it in my compilation video series of all of the games from the Dungeon Crawler Jam.
Thanks for checking it out!
The nine tails demon dissolved into dust (I played in Normal).
The game is fun and well rounded. Music is awesome (I want the OST ;) ) and the game looks great, every part of it does and the style is consistent. Movement feels perfect and I like that you need to find the pieces of the map. I like the character progression including choosing how you want to spend your pelts. The combat system is a very traditional rythm game and while I don't typically look for rythm games I enjoy this type of game anyway so I had a lot of fun with this one too.
The difficulty is right on point, I spent most of the game not using any corn but then when I finally ate one I realised that it gives only a few hps back so the amount you get is definitely not ridiculous.
I'm not certain my keyboard supports pressing LEFT+UP+RIGHT but I don't know how to verify that.
Very cool!
I'm really glad you checked it out and that you got to the end! I will go ahead and upload the OST after the jam. I guess I didn't consider that some keyboards might not be able to take multiple inputs - sorry!
This is a well made rhythm game. I'm not fun of a genre that is why I'm trying to make alternative mechanic of it but your game is polished and forgiven for those who is not used to play those games. It's really nice to play it. I didn't get to the end yet but hope I'll do eventually just it would be a nice make a save point after battles. Thank you.
Thanks for giving it a try even if you're not a fan of the rhythm genre!
I'm not much of a rythm game guy, but I managed to get through this and beat it. The movement and graphics were great, the music was really enjoyable and the combat ended up being really fun once I got the hang of it. Finding the chickens who helped you spend some pelts for stats was a clever idea too.
I did find an issue we talked about during the stream where you could go out of bounds by turning mid-step at the right time. It's fairly easily reproducible once you get it, but a minor issue.
Great game!
Gameplay starts around 2h20m

Yeah! Thanks for playing it live for me! It was very helpful to see how someone approaches the game completely new. I didn't realize how much people would use the map (I had it memorized because I built it) - so I can see how the map glitch is much more obvious when you are checking regularly before moving. I think I may have found the cause of the OOB glitch, but I still haven't been able to reproduce it on my end. I think it may have been caused by multiple if statements when I should be using elif.
Nice game!
I did make it through without dying. It took some time to get a good hand position for the minigame, but once I figured that out it went without problem. I did enjoy the combat more in this game than in many others. So much more fun than final fantasy style combat imo!
Nice graphics shader and good polish
C and T for trading and corneating wasnt intuitive but it makes sense.
Good Job!
Thanks! The combat was inspired by the statement I once heard, "Dark souls is actually a rhythm game". I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
The C & T buttons were just more convenient than implementing some kind of inventory or real buy/sell system. Maybe I'll learn how to program a real inventory/bartering system someday.
Really original combat system, and overall everything looks well done.
Not a fan of the screen effect this time, but walls are looking so good.
Good luck!
Hey thanks! I plan to add a toggle for the screen effect after the jam. IMHO it looks pretty flat without it, but I should let people play it how they want.
I'm absolutely terrible at rhythm games, lol. Still, this is probably the rhythm game that I played the longest. Everything is so polished and nice. The movement is responsive and snappy and perspective is spot on. Great looking dungeon textures too. Sometimes I'm rotated twice when turning, but that's no biggie. The map (and how it appears) is real nice and the way you add to it as one progress is cool.
+1 for numpad controls!
Great job :)
Such praise from our dear leader! Thanks for giving it a try!
Great game! I managed to beat it, ending the game with 16 attack and 41 corn... I'm not sure I ever ate a corn, maybe I'm a carnivorous chicken? I really like the different zones, and showing them in different colors, gave a nice sense of exploration (and knowing when I should go back and fill in my map), and variety. No real complaints here, only nitpick is when the map is closing, and I'm moving, the map clear animation pauses, and then out of the corner of my eye I see a new line of text "appear" in the log, so a few times I read the last lines that "appeared" and I was like "what, how did I just dodge an attack while moving around on the map?". I love the Cornish hen. Nothing too corny for me.
Thanks! I'm really glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, I'll need to fix that map lerp function. Thanks for playing it.
"You are forever know as RedCock the Fox Slayer"
Great entry!
At the beginning of the jam, my group considered the idea of making a rhythm game, but I (the group's programmer) said "It sounds too difficult to calibrate over such a short time. If the inputs aren't perfectly handled, it's going to suck. No thanks, I don't feel like it."
But you managed to do it! Well done!
Really nice graphics. The old-school cathode-ray effect is fun.
The environment variations make it clear how far you've progressed in the dungeon, and make orientation easier. There are even variations on the map, nice touch!.
The last environment reminded me of "Arcane Sanctuary" from Diablo 2, for some reasons.
The movements are fast and that's a good thing, but I find the rotations a little too fast. To make it more enjoyable, I think the rotations should either be a little slower, or not repeated on a key hold.
Some minor bugs I've encountered:
Wow! Thankyou for such great feedback! I certainly need to clean up the crawler script - it's been deferred maintenance for... 3 years? I'll need to add a few options for things like move/rotation speed. Was the increased volume on the end boss or just a random enemy? I think I had the mix settings different in LMMS for that song. I'll need to see if I can replicate the OOB issue, not sure what would cause it, but I have an idea.
Thank you for checking it out!
For the sound bug, it was a random enemy near the start of the game (in the first biome).
Had such fun with this one. The rhythm game was spot on and the boss fight was pretty damn intense. I won by one/two hits and was all out of corn. Loved the fox variety, the humor of the hens. The dungeon was nice and the perfect length for a jam game. Very well done!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Fantastic little DC game :D - The title is both hilarious and really fitting
I love the artstyle and the look of the overall game
The caustrophobic, monotonous dungeon was really neat, felt like I was really a chicken crawling in a small space. Also the smooth movement from one grid tile to another felt really satisfying!
The rythm game was nice and fun, only problem is that I'm having a migraine today since I woke up xD
The battle music for the mage fox was my favourite from the ones I heard.
Thanks for checking it out! I hope you feel better.
Really impressive little game! The rhythm minigame felt quite polished, hitting the keys on beat and watching the screen bump in accordance was very satisfying. Spritework is great too. I was put off a bit by how basic the music was at first, but with each new enemy type the tracks got more melodically elaborate and groovy while maintaining the goofy minimalist instrumentation. This also makes the transition between combat and exploration seamless, even when the tempos increase. It works super well! Dungeon design is simple but gets the job done. Some more visual variety may have been nice, but the different tilesets are cool on their own. I especially like the very last one (even if it doesn't work for regular dungeon hallways). I'll go replay this on hard right now. Nice work!!!! :)
Hey thanks! I'm really glad you enjoyed it. You make all valid points. Good luck on the hard run!
This is a fantastic interpretation and application of the theme. I went in a little unsure as to whether I would enjoy a rhythm game, but oh boy I did.
I think the thing I'm most impressed by is all of the small things that collectively improve the experience. The rhythm notes being timed to the beats correctly for all the different songs. Also how the music was thematically match to the foxes' identity.
The final music was an absolute banger, I now realise it was a cover, but gah it really hit just right. The difficulty seemed pretty well placed, I played on normal and had quite a bit of corn left, still felt like I missed fairly often on the triples.
I would have perhaps liked a toggle for the CRT shader, and for just a single turn on 'QE' keypress as I double turned occasionalyl. But these are small preferences and not critique.
Overall this is really great, a very solid game and interpretation of the theme. Thanks very much!
I'm very glad you enjoyed it! I was considering a toggle for the shader, but it seemed a bit flat without it. It's a simple add, so I should just do it anyway. I've not heard of QE as a double turn - I'll look into how to track a double keypress input on Godot, probably need to create some kind of keypress buffer. Thanks for playing and the kind words.
I think the method is is_action_just_pressed() if I remember rightly just tracks a single keydown. I probably should have worded it better as in if I held Q or E for more slightly more than one frame it double turns, as I assume it does 1 turn and then is still registering the press without a keyup and gets fired or goes into a buffer.
Super minor anyway :D. Thanks again.
