A cool combination of card game and dungeons!

Submitted

Very nice one.

I think this card/coin mechanics work pretty well as you can aim at positive sum or burn through enemies coins in order to defeat them faster. I liked how you can have different strategies based on cards you have on hand and in the deck, that seemed like a good balance.

Sometimes movement was unresponsive, I don’t know when exactly, it was just ignoring my movement keys for a second or two couple of times during the play-through.

Crawling and the dungeon were nice, but I would’ve liked to have a clearer understanding of where I am, something noticeable. Though in the end it didn’t really matter, as you just go through enemies until you reach the final boss.

Here’s my play-through:

Very good game, fun combat with the cards, i quite like how you did them and it was good exploring, the art work was good. Did feel a bit like minecraft with the tiles but that was still good. Overall fun game that i was glad to get to play and would play more of it so great work on it.

I quite like this game. I’m a sucker for deck-builders and the cards were an interesting mix. The one thing it that regard that I felt like I was missing though was the ability to actually influence / build my deck. I did one choice towards the end and avoided a fight with a golden chicken because I felt like I didn’t really want more defensive cards that would just prolong the fight.

One obvious thing would have been to allow the player to pick a minimum of N cards (or bench a maximum of M cards) to affect their deck. Another, that might be cooler would be to allow the player to accept each new card or burn it (for some instant coins).

Exploration was nice, though please let us have strafe (and move turns to QE), in the end though it got a bit bugged and my player character lost track of the grid. Fortunately it didn’t stop me from being able to reach and beat the final boss.

I had various more things popping into mind while playing, to check out the playthrough.

But overall a very fun and solid entry!

Great game! I was able to beat it (still had 113 coins left!) The visuals were good, and I liked that there were multiple music tracks to listen to. Super chill. I like your implementation of the card battle system a lot more than mine, it was easy to understand what to do, and what cards did with little direction. I also like that you took the gameplay in a different direction that traditional crawlers / rpgs do in general, and it was cool to see something different!

Thanks so much for playing and 113 coins is a great score!

I quite liked the theme of this one! I included it in my compilation video series of all of the games from the Dungeon Crawler Jam.

I really like this game! The visuals were A+, the premise was great, the mood worked and the card playing game feel was spot on. I like the smooth movement but I really wish I had a strafe key. I want to play a lot more, although after I killed the golden chicken and took the egg I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do next.

I found myself wishing it were more difficult, wanting to see the deck I had accumulated, and making decisions about whether or not to take cards. I think if the game just moved me to "level 2" after taking out the chicken and everything was just more lethal then I would have a lot of deck-building strategy with the cards. Of course you made this in 9 days (VERY impressive!) and I'm describing more work! :) But I guess that means I'm excited about the game.

Well done and thank you for making it.

Thanks so much for playing and the feedback!

Really funny game! Enjoyed so much the card system, though sometimes felt unsure about it´s effects in the mechanics. Impressive results using the AI.

Thank you for playing!

Very good entry. I liked that it's card battle but it revolves around money and it's exchange instead of hp / defesen, fits the them really well! :D

Also art looks good and fitting for the concept.

The music was really not my cup of tea but objectively looking, it goes well with the theme.

This is a fantastic entry! Thanks for making it :D

There are a handful of Quality of Life features that would elevate this entry to the next level but it did an excellent job at teaching me how to play and allowing me to make interesting decisions!

I'll start out by saying I'm not big on card games but this one was a ton of fun. I died at the end on the first run because I started the final fight with 20 or so coins, but ended up getting it the second time around with some good RNG on the treasure rewards. I started the last fight with like 90+ coins on the second run. The card game is just fun all around, there's some good synergies and balancing playing cards in the right order to minimize hurting yourself was a good balance. Graphics and sprites were charming, movement and all that was fine and maybe the music didn't match too much but I suppose it could be casino/lounge/speakeasy type style if that's what the intention was.

I think if there was a "combat" log or something to see what some of the RNG did and understand the enemies turn better (the cards poofed a little quick) would be a nice addition.

I wasn't sure what to think at first with it being a card game but ended up really enjoying it, and I played a second time to beat it! Great job!

Gameplay starts around the 30 second mark

Thank you for playing and posting your playthrough! I learned a lot from watching you play and the idea of adding a combat log is genius. I feel silly for not thinking of it because I also felt the combat needed some more clarity. Cheers!

Music was very old school casinoish for me! and I guess that fits the game haha.

Lol that is what I was going for. Thanks so much for playing!

That went down smooth!
The card battle system was fun and easy to understand.
Except Greedy Pot.  I still have no idea what that card did.

I paid my dept.

The game plays smooth and I enjoyed timing the optimal order of my cards, cards which look super great by the way, although I didn't have as many choices as I prefer. I think that in theory I love paying with life money (rather than limited resource per turn) but in practice with the actual set of cards you just play all the cards you drew each turn and since you also don't choose the cards to put into your deck the game plays a bit more by itself than I prefer.

I still had fun playing the game, as once again it goes smooth and I was immersed in it all the way long, thanks for sharing.

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! Balancing the card game was more challenging than I expected and I also noticed the game kind of plays itself once you get the hang of it. Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed!

Interesting gameplay. Playing cards gets a bit repetitive after a while and that is the hard part with tuning deck games.  Card game worked well in general though. AI felt OK. Not sure if they just play cards by random.

The dungeon movement felt a bit unresponsive but then there were not much of a dungeon to explore. The chests can be moved away from with the menu open which felt a bit odd. Maybe something to adjust. Generally nice looking enemies.

Good Job!

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! Unfortunately, there were some bugs that I didn't finish fixing and balancing the card game was definitely tricky. Thanks for the feedback!

I really loved the music tracks and the overall polish. Movement felt really great and the art and dungeon style was very cohesive. Great job!

Like your game! I am a big fan of Slay the Spire - it gave me similar vibes.

Keeping in mind this is a solo project, you got a lot of things well done. I wonder if there is an ending? At one point I was running out of enemies, and also couldn't find "the boss" to give him back what I've collected.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks so much for playing! There is an ending, you can find The boss again at the end of dungeon for one final duel. Sorry you got lost, I probably should've added a minimap or some landmarks :P

Nice, I also made a deck building game!  Interesting to see how different our games ended up being despite having the same inspiration.  I like the upbeat music and the intro really sets the mood well.  I found my starting deck leaving me without many strategic decisions, and I wasn't getting many cards that made me feel over-all stronger, but might have just been bad RNG.

Nice work! Deck building + dungeon crawling is a lot of work for a single dev

Developer

Yeah, the deckbuilding is really basic, killing an enemy or finding a chest adds a card to your deck. I would have liked to add things like a deck editor and in game merchant but ran out of time. Thanks so much for playing!
