Did you use any third-party assets or skeleton code?
I made everything during the jam except for literally 5 lines of code from my last game for part of the dash script

This was pretty fun! The movement system works, and I like that the upgrade system is simple but effective, with each upgrade choice having a clear purpose. A few brief notes:
I liked this game. It's simple, with some cool arcade-style action.
Thanks! Yeah the bullet system is my #1 thing that I would rework if I did this again. This experience has exposed me to the fact that I am really bad at balancing so I'll try to get better for the next jam I join!
I would say overall really great job, I love the shop, and it's a fun way to move around. The only thing I'd have to say is the fights are way to easy. Only buffing health sometimes makes the fights more tedious rather than difficult, maybe some new patterns or extra attacks could make it more interesting. All around though its very enjoyable, hope you continue to expand on the game
Thanks! Yeah if I ever work on this again I am definitely adding more attacks and stuff
Simple and sweet. This was pretty fun, I like how the movement works. Altought I don't have much else to say about it tbh, so I'll be owing you this one, sorry.
I have a feeling the game wasn't fully working on my laptop tho? At least not as you'd expect, since both the player and every single boss was spinning like, 600mp/h nonstop, and judging by the gifs on the game page I assume this movement should have been way less agressive lol.
And I'm assuming this little incovenience may also have broken the bullet hitboxes, because holy shit, they were abnormably large. Like, this clip right here from my death, literally not a single one of those bullets felt like they should have hit me at all. (except maybe for the first one, but even then)
(Sadly this clip is from Ring god who is the one boss that you can't see spinning like a madman lol, but if you want to see a clip of that I could send it too since I recorded my entire run)
If this is indeed the intended size of the hitboxes tho, you should really watch out for that, as I always say on a lot of comments, hitboxes should always be smaller than their sprites, as small as they can get.
Thanks! I think that the gifs were just slowed down for some reason (Taking a look at the game page they seem slower there than on my computer? Dunno what that is about) After looking at the actual game, yeah the hitboxes ARE bigger than they were supposed to be, I think I enlarged them slightly by accident, sorry about that!
I was playing so long my laptop battery died. Gotta admit I kind of cheesed it, but had a good time doing so.
Glad you enjoyed!
Omg the music every time I returned to the upgrade room made me soooo happy haha! This game is amazing lol The movement controls are my favourite part, it feels really intuitive. This game is really well made and the upgrades are awesome. My only gripe is waiting around for bullets to come back is a little tedious. Perhaps it would be interesting if some spawning randomly in the arena, that would incentivize me to move around more and collect them (whilst dodging incoming bullets).
Anyway great game. Good job :)
Thanks! Yeah, that music was by far my favorite thing about the game. I would definitely come up with a better system for the bullets if I were to remake the game.
Cool game with cool effects! Loved the concept. I totally skipped the tutorial as I didn't know how to move ahead in the text box as it was lagging a bit. Although that happened, I figured out the game in one round. Great upgrade system. It was a bit hard to earn money and would have been more fun if there were more ways to earn money. I found the simple artstyle cool. It would have been a bit better if the game had some ui like timers or progress bars to show when the bullets were ready. Still, great frickin game!
Thanks, yeah the tutorial wasn't that great anyway so you didn't miss much there! If I did this again I would redesign the UI because in the bottom left there is a counter that shows how many bullets you have but people seem to not notice it
Oh didn't notice it :P damn. Thanks for listening to my feedback :D
Really cool control system! Moving and shooting with the mouse felt really nice. I love progression systems, but I think you need to balance the cost to enemy drop value for the various upgrades. The enemies are a little too simple in the beginning, but your low power level makes them take a relatively long time to kill. And the fact that it takes at least two rounds before I can buy any upgrade makes the opening drag a little too much. But if you iterate on these values, I am sure you can find the right balance to make this game awesome!
Thanks, Yeah I actually nerfed the money because you were able too buy 5+ upgrades in one round, I think I accidentally made it too little. Sorry about that!
This was surprisingly addictive. The movement mechanic is really fun and the difficulty feels just right. Nice work!
Yay! Thank you!
I like it ! Good job!
Thanks!
I had a lot of fun!
I pumped everything into damage, haha
Ha! Fun fact: For a while there only WAS the damage upgrade...meaning that your strategy is canonically the first and best! (I like pumping into damage too)
I found the game quite fun! It had me hooked.
It took me a while to realize the controls but it fit the theme well and I keep wanted to see how much further I could get.
I just wish the hitbox for the player was a bit smaller as it felt like I got hit sometimes when I didn't think I would.
Also the intro where when you go back to the arena it forces you toward the enemy is a little bit frustrating
Thanks, I think I did actually make the hitbox a bit bigger than the player accidentally, sorry about that
Nice work! I liked the little player character and the abstract boss designs. With the exception of maybe the UI, the entirety of game looks simple but quite nice. I wasn't a huge fan of the interpretation of the theme on this one; waiting for the bullets to reload felt somewhat tedious, especially during the easier fights, during which I ended up just sort of standing around and using bullets as soon as I had them. It felt a bit better once the fights picked up a bit because I'd spend the time trying to dodge bullets. That said, I like it overall, and found it to be very fun once the fights were a bit more difficult!
Thanks, yeah if I could do this again I would definitely use a different system for the bullet regen
Yeah, I feel like game jams are a good place to learn that kind of thing. Make something weird or goofy or experimental or new to you, that lets you see what works, what doesn't work, and what could work with some more time. At least that's how I like to think about it.
Fun game with very polished design. Art and music all good, gameplay is fun and responsive with a nice difficulty ramp up, the limited bullets mechanic is a bit basic in concept but it works fine in gameplay. Great job overall!
Thanks!
Very simple and interesting concept!
I liked the controls and movement, it was an original way to put it.
I think there should be an opportunity for a way to reload though, I understand that it fits the theme, but I thought at first that I had to travel a distance to reload bullets, which could have been interesting I feel like :D
Cool game!
Huh that is actually a really neat idea on the distance traveled thing, if I had thought of that while the jam was still going I definitely would have added it, thanks for the review!
