In what way does your game fit the theme?
After reaching the end of the level and pulling the lever, the player has to rewind his movements back to the door at the beginning of the level.

Did you write most of the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes, I wrote all of the code myself during the jam, but I used premade assets that I found online for art and audio.

Nice game design right there, gems are really well executed(even if there is no reason to get them hahaha) but it is a nice touch on the final game! Audio is really good too, puzzles are hard(I'm okay with this, maybe others won't) and really makes you be careful when rewinding. In my opinion is no hidden gem or anything perfect, but it is a nice idea, with nice execution and I liked it! Congrats!

Be sure to check my game too!

Developer

Thanks! Glad you liked it!

Like the consept, and the visuals are great, I especially liked the trail, although I think the rewind is a bit too slow

Developer(+1)

Noted. Thank you for your feedback.

finished the game, 2nd level imo was harder than the last. each level is basically two with the rewind feature, very cool. The afterimages are helpful to show the future position during rewind

Developer

The very last level, (called Level X in the level selection menu), wasn't supposed to make it into the final version of the game, but I left it there just to show how I intended all levels to look like.

To leave a trace of shadows of previous movements is brilliant! I really liked the rewind feature on this one, pausing while rewind is a gamechanger. That one was very fun to play.

I wished that it this game should be longer when I completed it, I deeply enjoyed that one. Please let me know if you publish a complete version of it after the jam, I look forward to play it more.

Developer

I'm so happy to hear that you liked it! I am definitely going to release a few updates after the jam with  various improvements and more levels. Stay tuned! You can get updates whenever I release an update by following my itch.io page: https://ninja-monkey.itch.io/ 😉. Thanks again!

Really cool concept, and actually quite difficult if you're impatient or a wannabe speedrunner like me lol. I kept dying to the lasers on the second level.

I also used trail rendering in my game! It's finicky and I had to end up making my own script for it but I am impressed with how yours works.

Nice job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I wrote my own script for it too, if you're interested I can share it with you.

I would really appreciate that! Mine is such a mess and still broken in many places but works close to the way I want, maybe I can learn from yours.

The game is fun to play!

Th theme is hit on point! The trail the player left behind was a very good idea, so that you can keep track of the path you took. Maybe a "hardmode" without the trail would be interesting"

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked it :)! Although I intended to make the game easy on purpose because it's a jam game and I want it to be nice and easy, I am definitely considering adding a hard mode or something. Thanks again!

Here's my honest opinion:
-It's a cool looking pixel game!
-At first I thought there would be some hack and slash action, maybe that would be a nice addition.
-Though the rewind mechanic fits the theme very well, I find it needless to go to the lever to just return back to the start door (especially if the player forgot or choose not to pick up the gem.)
So maybe an incentive to go there would be great. Or probably redesign on how to use the rewind where it would make most sense.

I hope this helps to make it better, because you already did a good job on the rewinding and visuals.
So keep up the good work!

Developer

Thank you for your feedback. The incentive to switch the lever is that it opens the door, but at the same time it stops time and the player has to rewind his movements to reach the door.

Very fun take on a rewinding platformer game! I felt it was a bit easy to be able to completely control your rewind you could basically just do the same things but reverse. Maybe something to force the player to think differently would be nice. Otherwise love everything about this game. Well done!

Really like it! I usually give really detailed feedback, but I honestly don't know what I would recommend to improve in this game! I think it does what it sets out to do very well!

Things I liked:

>Simple game premise that was executed well

>Fits the theme perfectly

>Graphics and Audio are very nice and stylish and fit the game well. Well utilised.

Things to improve:

>Hmmm, I guess a couple more levels would be nice :) (that means I liked it haha)

>I think there was a point on the 5th level where the rewind got a bit out of sync with the images it was getting rid of (as in the memory images of the character were disappearing before the character was rewinding up to that point; maybe cause I did a big jump from the top platform with the gem down to the middle platform). Was only a very minor issue, didn't really affect me too much; but I imagine it might bother me if the level was longer and the sync issue got bigger (but i didnt notice it on any other level).

>A harder mode would be cool (you could make it so that the rewind happens slowly whether you like it or not, and you are just in control of whether to speed up the rewind or not?). I found the rewinding aspect to often be easier than the first run (provided I didn't confuse myself by doing lots of unnecessary movement on the first run through) because I could freeze my character mid-air to wait for obstacles to pass (something you cant do on the normal run through). So perhaps having a harder mode would ensure the rewind runthrough is as challenging as the first run through.

Overall:

Great game! Really enjoyed it!

Thank you so much! I fixed the problem where the echo images would not be in sync with the player when rewinding, just need to wait for the rating period to end to release the update with  a few improvements and bug fixes. Although I intended to make the game easy on purpose because it is a jam game and I want it to be easy and fun to play, I will definitely take what you said about a hard mode into consideration. Thanks again!

Yep, I think you definitely chose the right option given the limited time. When in doubt, make it more accessible rather than less, good thinking :)

I really like it. the visuals are so god. well done!

Fun game, it has an interesting use of a rewind mechanic, definitely more challenging than i thought it would be!

Good Job

Thank you!

Great game, really enjoyed it.

One minor thing is the "W" key for jumping instead of space but I eventually got used to it so I guess it's fine!

Glad you liked it!

This indeed was a very cool game! I really like how you implemented the theme in this game! Excellent work!

Thanks!

Here are some of my thoughts.

What I liked:

- The game's central mechanic is one of the best applications of "rewind" that I've seen in a platformer. It's simple, but instantly understandable, unlike many other games I've seen that make a simple concept unreasonably hard to understand/use.

- Lots of games with mechanics like this have made the mistake of expecting the player to know what they were doing from the very start, and make flawless paths for themselves without really having to think about it. This game solves that problem by having it so you win as soon as you touch the door -- so you actually have time to think about your path before moving!

- The controls in regular mode and rewind mode are very different, but both really precise and responsive.

- The graphical style, in general.

What I think could be improved:

- Honestly, not much. This is one of the most consistently polished and enjoyable games I've played in this jam. Great job!

Developer

Thank you so much! Much appreciated :)

Nice mechanic (the trail is very helpful but when rewinding it disappears faster than the player actually moves), the game feels speedrunnable, I like this!

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked it! I fixed the trails problem, but I need to wait till the rating period ends in order to upload the new version.

Really Good graphics and mechanic visualization,  I liked the level design, but would had liked if you could speed up the rewind temporarily while holding down shift or something, and the death sound might be a tad too ear piercing at times. But overall nice implementation of the the theme and well done on producing a neat little project.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback! I will definitely take that into consideration, and I fixed the audio but I need to wait till the rating period ends in order to upload the new version.
