Cute game, I could not resist the call of the ant race xD There were a couple of bugs which I didn't mind, I would have liked for the race to be faster since I can only watch it happen. The visuals were really pretty especially the 3D pixel art models. Keep it up!
I see an ant game, I play the ant game.
I absolutely love this idea, ant races where you purchase upgrades and let it play out.
However, the game was very buggy for me (and not just because of all the ants). Ants would fly out of the arena and run off into the great beyond (although this was quite funny). It was hard to follow the races (a top down view and position indicators might have been nice), and the standing at the end didn't seem to make sense, since some of the ants had ran off the arena like I said, and they came first...
So great concept, and actually I loved the art, but sadly I couldn't play due to the bugs
Hello!
I'm so glad you liked the concept!
The ants moving out of bounds was actually a post-jam bug fix haha. They were getting caught on each other at the end of the match so it was softlocking for some people, to avoid adding more content and potentially breaking the rules of "adding content post jam" I chose to make any bug fixes the quickest solution possible (In this case, the ants stopping at the end of the race was delayed, so they would be out of the way.) (Also this was the funniest solution; other potential solutions included turning off collision / deleting ants)
Thankyou so much for the suggestions, I definitely want to take another go at the camera system! And refine the placement system so you can get a better idea of where ants are in real time. I hope you had a great jam!
This is a very interesting concept and I felt it was pretty easy! One thing I noticed is that the player would sometimes get stuck behind the big ant.
Oh no!!! we tried so hard to fix this, thankyou for playing and we'll try fixing this in the post jam update.
No worries, I still had fun playing it!
cute concept and art, i liked that aspect a lot but i was super confused how to play, or if it was an auto racer
It was an auto racer!!
Sorry if we accidentally tricked you with the lack of a tutorial haha
The ants are really cute, love the art !
Thank you so much for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it :D
So funny I love ants and these 3D models haha cool game!
The idea is super fun and I like the old school 3D art style. The camera was confusing sometimes and at the end of the race my bug is always running out of boundary and clipping through the audience.
It would be cool to name our ant so it is not just "Player" when the camera show the names.
There was no sound design at all. No crowd cheering, not UI click sounds in the menu, no funny animals noises. In a game where is no actual gameplay and you just watch an ant running, audio can make the experience a lot better. There was a song though, but it was always the same. When using free music, there is always the chance to just use multiple songs and trigger them randomly, so every race has a new song. The song you used was fitting and cool, but the audio quality was bad, there was an audible noise floor. The recording needed a de-noiser for sure.
I hope you continue working on it after the jam and expand the ideas.
Thanks so much for playing!
Really appreciate the feedback as well, between the four of us we had two programmers and two artist so unfortunately sound design completely went by the wayside. We are looking into taking the game a bit further post jam including adding naming your ant (something we wanted to add but ran out of time lol) so we'll definitely look into adding your suggested sound effects!

Woahhh, fellow bug game maker! Another "betting on silly bugs" game, even! You love to see it. And it's a really fun idea, too! Some notes:
- I love all the art, it's all so charming! The models are super high quality, and the 2D graphics are adorable. I especially love the eyes on the ant model.
- The menus are all easy to maneuver through, which is nice, but having some music for the menus and maybe some button sounds would be awesome.
- Honestly, the lack of sound effects in general was a bit disappointing, but it wasn't a dealbreaker, either.
- The camera was the biggest problem for me - it swapped so often that I could hardly tell what was going on, and not being able to see my ant for most of the race was a bit of a bummer. At the very least, having something like a minimap to show where each and is would be nice, but perhaps zooming out the camera in general or even letting the player manually swap which ant they're watching would be a major help. It might also be nice to help distinguish the ants from each other somehow, like making them different colors or giving them funny hats!
- I'm not sure if this was just me, but it didn't feel like the upgrades were making my ant much better. I was still performing just as poorly in the Biscotti Cup after buying half a dozen upgrades as I was at the start. That said, I love the flavor of the upgrades! The image of an ant with earpods in and holding a sippy cup rolling around on rollerskates is really fun. (On a second playthrough, this was probably just because my ant was REALLY slow the first time - 6 speed or something - my second run's ant was much faster.)
- The end of the game bugged me a bit, too, because there was no indication that it was coming up. Also, I got both the win and loss screens popping up simultaneously, and neither "Try Again" button seemed to work. Maybe I just got a weird score, and that broke things? On my second run, I got no ending at all.
-Sometimes ants would escape out of bounds, but I assume this is just a part of the game after they complete the race? I'm not sure.
- I love the names of the ants, very silly.
- The music was well-chosen, I just wish there was a bit more.
I really liked the game, reminded me a bit of Chao races but still with its own unique flavor. The camera makes it a bit hard to follow, but if it was easier to tell what was going on then I could definitely see myself coming back to play often!
Lmao this game was funny for sure. Although I had some fun, I personally didn't see much in terms of gameplay. Not sure what else was there to do besides clicking all the upgrades after each race and just choose a race then pray to RNGesus XD The camera angles and stuffs are fun to look at but I think it has quite a few bugs left.
Really charming entry!
Thankyou so much!
Oh hey, another ant-based game!
The POV camera angle really cracked me up, and the names were funny too. One suggestion I have would be to allow re-rolling the shop after a race, as I found myself with a lot of money but not much to spend it on. Only bug I saw was that sometimes the ants would run out of bounds.
Wow!!
another 3D ant game for the jam, love your game's animations they're so cute! Technically meant to be working now but I'll check your game out properly in a bit!!
No way! You also made a game about racing :D
Had great fun with this game, my ant was the best in town B) Although I do have to say: Rufus was a strong contender.
Loved the POV in front of the ants, amazing work!
The 3D visuals are very unique! Also the theme is very creative, never heard of an ant racing game before XD
Funny game with great visuals. The game did feel a bit repetitive by the end but was pretty fun regardless. A really nice take on the theme and Great job!
Thanks for playing! Totally agree about the later rounds, we didn't have enough time to balance the amount of laps / races before the end of the jam, will defo consider adding more unique events as the player keeps going
im starting to suspect that some of these ants are using PED
very fun game
PED / steroid legislation hasn't been passed in the ant racing industry yet so it's totally fine and all above the board, don't even worry about it!
Twas Fun! Definitely cool to see a 3d game like this for a game jam. I laughed very hard the first race. Good work!

I had a hard time telling whether my ant was in first due to the counter changing even when no ant was around. Other then that I think this is pretty fun and a very silly take on the premise! the art is especially great!
The game is cool! Not exactly what I expected when I heard formula ant, but it managed to fit the theme so well and it was pretty fun as well!
