A nice game, and the core of the game is made quite well.
Some feedbacks i have:

  • Need to make gun 1 more useful or have specific uses. Right now, using gun 2 is enough.
  • Some temporary powerups drop from enemies will be cool for this game.

Well done for making this game in 7 days!!!

Very fun shooting game, had a blast wiping off waves of enemies and protecting my king. The screenshake and sound effect of bullets firing was a great detail

Please play and rate my game as well, thanks!

Thanks for taking the time to play the game and I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

Interesting game, got the basis of a wave-based shooter with no bugs I could find so good job! For a 1 person project I can understand that it it is hard to expand too much on an idea. There are a lot of things that could be added e.g. upgrades system, new enemy types but I think the absence of these is more likely due to lack of time than anything else. The best way to learn is through practice so good job for entering a game jam as in my experience that's how I learn the most!

Also there was lag spikes when new objects were seen for the first time, you can fix this by using PRELOAD instead of LOAD ;)

Developer

Thanks for taking the time to play and I hope you enjoyed it.

Yeah i'm not 100% on what the issue is with the lag spikes on the first creation of the enemy hit effects, I am actually using preload and it's fine in a non web build of the game, so not sure if it's just web specific or not, will definitely spend some time trying to find the issue so I can avoid it in any future godot projects.

Submitted

Oh ok lol, web builds do seem to struggle with lag a lot more - we had a similar issue in our game with particles causing a lot of lag so had to remove them :(

Not sure of a fix for the lag unfortunately

Had fun playing this got to 13th wave and things got a bit too difficult.  I think an upgrade system could have made this really stand out but for being a first time use of Godot it's good.

Developer

Thanks for taking the time to play!

Yeah an upgrade system was something I had originally wanted to do, but just didn't the chance unfortunately!

I am really shocked at how nobody in the comments has the courage to tell you how awful this game feels.
I think it's because nobody wants to have their game hate-rated in return, however I'd rather have my game hate-rated but give you some actual useful feedback than gaslight you into thinking your game was great when (in my opinion) it has a lot of issues...

The game design feels very flawed, I think having friendly fire on the king would have added some much needed creativity, but as it stands this is just a wave-based shooter game and that's about it. The choice of weapons (manual / auto) gives you the choice between 2 weapons that do the exact same amount of damage, except that one gives you the comfort of not having to click every time with the drawback of hurting your ears while you use it...

The purple slime being exactly the same as the green one with just more health feels like a wasted opportunity to make the game more interesting! I could've totally seen some enemies with different moving patterns or maybe the ability to shoot you!

There's no bonuses or perks that make the game more interesting, every wave just feels like it's the same loop over and over again where you move around the king and shoot the enemies.

As for the sound design, the music is fitting enough but the gunshots really hurt to listen to, especially the automatic one. It's also lacking a lot more sounds that would've added some depth to the game (new wave sound, monster sound, etc).

The screenshake is something people often turn off in games, I think this should've been considered during production if you really wanted to add it in.

Every designer might have a different opinion on this, for me the friendly fire on the king would've made this game a lot more interesting, that aside you should consider adding some variety to the game (perks, bonuses, new weapons) and most importantly look into having the gun shots be more satisfying than just using the same overlapping sound over and over again (using a random pitch already works, maybe using an uzi sound and making it a bit less raw would make it sound nice too!).

I appreciate jams because people get to watch what you made and comment on how they felt about it but I think for this game particularly, people don't go out of their way and just say the game feels nice or fun when I can already see them rating your game a 2 or 3 out of five at best...

I hope that moving forward people will be a bit more honest, because we're here to learn, not to pretend we like something to get more points!

Developer(+1)

Hey, I appreciate that you took the time to play my game and leave feedback.

I'll be honest this 'but as it stands this is just a wave-based shooter game and that's about it.'  is sort of what I was aiming for, I didn't enter this jam for any reason other than for a bit of fun and as a chance to learn and make something in Godot, so my whole focus was to keep it as simple as possible and most importantly complete something, both of which I'm happy with regardless of the games eventual rating.

Pretty much all of the issues you had with the game are things I had thought about during the jam, but ultimately due to time limitations I had, these were features/improvements that I just didn't get a chance to address.

Submitted

And that's absolutely fine! What counts is that you learn from the jam, time management plays the biggest part in jams but it's also about knowing what could've been.

Feel free to reach out if you need any help :)

The Game feels really good to play. The controls are fluid. A few extra sound effects for things like wave clear, etc. would have made the experience even better. A great game overall. Keep up the good work.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for taking the time to play the game and I'm glad you liked it!

Yeah I would of liked some extra sound effects in too and tbh some improvements on the current gun sounds, but lack of time just meant it wasn't an option.

I really like the screen shake when shooting; it makes the game feel more exciting! Even though it's a simple shooter, it's quite challenging. Really fun!

Developer

Thanks for taking the time to play and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Pros:
Fun, cute, wave clearing/2d shooter game! The movement felt nice and I didn't find any bugs! Overall enjoyed clearing 11 waves of weird goopy guys (who look great btw)!

Cons:
The camera shake was a bit disorienting for me, as it seems to happen every time I shoot. I also think that slightly randomizing the pitch of the bullet sfx may feel better than triggering the same sample.

Developer(+1)

Hi thanks for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Yeah the screen shake is something I've not really worked with before so I wasn't too sure on how much I should shake it, I think at the very least in the future I'll add an option to allow the player to choose, and that's a good tip for the bullet SFX I'll keep that in mind for the future.

This is a fun little shoot-em-up + tower defense game! I managed to get to wave 15 before being overwhelmed by the red ones. Definitely can see this being a roguelike with upgrades after every wave. I had quite a good time, well done and good luck!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Yeah I actually had originally planned to have upgrades after every wave but just didn't have the time to get around to implementing them.

Submitted(+1)

Very simple and yet quite the fun endless shooter! The character feels nice to control and the gun feels very satisfying to shoot, the game is very well-balanced, it doesn't overwhelmed you at the start.

Would love to see this expanded into something bigger, maybe more weapon, more enemies, just to name a few ideas.

Either way, fantastic job!

Developer

Thanks for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed it :)!

Super satisfying to shoot. Simple but effective concept. Loved it!

Developer

Yeah as it was my first game with Godot I felt the most sensible was to aim for short and sweet!

Thanks for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Submitted(+1)

Very nice! Good thing friendly fire wasn't on, otherwise the king wouldn't have survived my defense for long :D

Thanks for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I appreciate that this game feels balanced. The pace at which the aliens arrive is very manageable at first, giving you time to understand what's happening. Nice work!

Very cute aliens, yet killing them off is very satisfying :)

Developer

Thanks for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I'm glad you liked the aliens, I was pretty happy with how they turned out!

Submitted(+1)

Sound effects combined with screen shake was so satisfying. I also like that there is two types of enemies.

Great job.

Nice game, but I wish to be able to shoot continuously while keeping the mouse button pressed. Congrats.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!

This is something I noticed later on in development and implemented an auto weapon that can be equipped via the [2] key, however it is a different gun so it also offers a different experience and an autoshoot mechanic on the single shot weapon is actually a very good idea (and wouldn't be hard to implement) it was just something I didn't think of at the time! Will remember that for future Jams!

Submitted(+1)

Cool game. Liked the SFX for the bullets a lot! I would have love to maybe upgrade my weapons. Very fun!

Developer

Thanks for playing the game and the feedback.

Yeah the initial idea was to have an upgrade mechanic at the end of each wave, but due to time I wasn't able to get to it.

Submitted(+1)

This was a cool game! I really enjoy the wave survival aspect, and I think the idea of protecting the king is an interesting spin on the "nothing can go wrong" theme. I think it would be pretty cool to augment the game with some animations and maybe a dash or something to add some diversity to the combat, but I enjoyed it!

Developer

Thanks for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Yeah I'm still pretty much on the programmer art level when it comes to creating stuff :) hence the lack of animations, however I will keep that in mind and use it as a focus to improve on during the next Jam I take part in!
