Great concept with some Pratchett's vibes ^^ I had a good time playing it !

Please consider rating my game too ;)

Nice game, a great mechanic that fits the theme perfectly, fun to play too, very well done with this one!

A fun combination of a rage and puzzle game with a simple yet very useful blink mechanic. I love that there are a lot different death messages in the game, it makes every failure less frustrating reading those witty flavor texts.

I do wish the traps look more obvious, they sort of blend in with the ground, but other than great job on this!

Your game is really slick, clever and hard (for my anyway)!

Developer

Thank you for playing my game! I hope to simplify the task for the player a bit in the future while keeping the same idea.

Absolutely frustrating. Overall great experience :)

Developer

Thank you very much for playing my game! I hope to create an equally interesting but simpler version of this game in the future!))

I really like the concept! The game is really well designed, I like how a failed run ends up being helpful to the player in their next run. The death messages were funny and I really liked the variety, it felt like the wizard had something new to say every death. My only criticism for this game is that the death and retrying feels very punishing in bigger levels. The mechanics work very well if a level is short, but since the player has no way of knowing whether or not they're stepping into a trap, the bigger levels quickly become frustrating as you have to slowly and carefully walk the same path you've walked before until you reach the room where you've last died, in which you then have to guess which path won't kill you. But other than that, this game is really great and I've really enjoyed it! The game has a lot of potential and I think it would be a lot of fun in a more polished, full version! Overall a great take on the theme, good job!

Developer

Thank you very much for playing my game and leaving feedback! In the new version, I will try to make the levels shorter—the length of the first one really seems optimal. I also want to add artifacts that can be found; currently, ideas include highlighting the nearest trap, a rechargeable shield that saves from death, and turning orcs to your side.

Firstly nice music as well as graphics. The game idea is awesome and I really appreciate a added story  together with the death messages. But, I must say I nearly gave up multiple times. There really needs to be a way to spot the traps to make it more fair. Also sometimes when I was going down, the death counter, which was a nice touch, was covering the MC and I couldn't see where I was going. SFX would be nice and maybe showing a death animation with the message underneath it. But other then that nice game.

Despite showing another game under my comment, here is a game I would like you to comment and rate if you of course didn't do so already:  https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-13/rate/3328267

Thank you for playing my game and leaving feedback! Unfortunately, the sound was added at the last minute, and I forgot to check if it was working or not) I think I'll add a system of artifacts that can be found in the levels, and most likely on the second level, you'll be able to find an artifact that highlights the nearest trap to the player as you move.

I almost gave up with the multiple switches, but I managed to make it to the next room through the hidden passage. I think the gameplay could have been more engaging if the player could guide the orcs to identify traps more easily. Keep up the good work!

Thank you very much for playing my game and leaving feedback! I think I can try to create an artifact that would make the orcs think you are one of them, causing them to run alongside you and trigger traps.

It would be a better one to be more forgiving for the movement and not get killed by just a touch of a corner of the colliders. Good visuals by the way.

Thank you for playing my game! I'll try to make the interaction with traps more fair to the player in the future))

This game would go nicely with grid-step-based movement instead of fluid movement.

Developer

Thank you very much for playing my game! I thought about this, but I ended up with a clone of Pixel Dungeon, and I wanted to create something more dynamic, while turn-based mode seems to force the player to be more thoughtful. Perhaps when I revise the game, this adventure will indeed become more fun than irritating.

I think you have a really solid foundation here for something really great! As others have mentioned, some sort of checkpoint system where you restart near where you died would be nice instead of having to redo the entire journey. I think redoing the journey felt more frustrating than it should have because it was a little tricky to aim the teleport down the tight hallways, sometimes it just wouldn't place it unless you lined it up just right. And then the hit box for the player might be a bit too big, where the player's head triggers traps it seems like. I think the mechanic is super unique and a really great idea though! If you just allow the player to get right back into the action sooner, and closer to where they died it would make it feel a lot less punishing. Really nice job on this and the idea! Excited to see future versions.

Thank you very much for trying my game and leaving feedback! Unfortunately, yes, because I didn't test my game much, I couldn't identify problems during the jam, but in the future, I will try to revise the game so that the difficulty level is more reasonable and the controls are more responsive))

This was a very fun experience, the only problem was that I found  dying right at the end of a level and then re spawning at the beginning a little bit frustrating. I like the visuals and the teleport mechanic :)

Developer

Thank you very much for trying my game! In the future, I will revise it, including adding checkpoints so that on relatively large levels, the progress won't reset all the way back to the beginning.

Very nice game, though I had to ragequit a few times. Overall, the game beautifully portrays the struggle against burnout and the constant chase for perfection. Truly a memorable experience!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for playing my game! I will try to make a new version that is less rage-inducing and more forgiving of mistakes!))

Very fun concept! I enjoyed the something went wrong counter even though mine went way too high lol. Death text was funny too! Pixel art looked really nice. Definitely could see myself playing a full version of this!

Developer

Thank you very much for playing! I hope the revised version later will please you even more!))

Nice game concept!
I really get the concept of the game being "unfair" and "punishing", for me it is a challenge to finish such game! but your game probably needs some work done to make it better.

Firstly, the unknowingness of the game obstacle is a good mechanic if it's done right. I love it, because it makes the game unexpectedly challenging. but you should really balance it. maybe shorten or resize the game level a little bit, and make the view wider for the player, so that the player has a better view of their surroundings. So, in the end you can divide the level into little more separated levels, it'd probably feels more rewarding for the player to finish!

the teleportation/blink system is really cool! but the main issue is I found the blink aiming using the mouse felt clunky. maybe you should fix it. It'd probably make the game a whole lot better in the first place. I think it has something to do with the wall collider.

Also, I think you should remove the death dialogue or maybe change into something that won't block the player's view and progression of the game. and how the player must always "click anywhere to continue" really slow the progress down for the player that really want it quick and try again.

The game has a lot of potential! :D

Thank you very much for taking the time to play my game and leave a detailed comment! Yes, unfortunately, I realized too late how harsh my game is on the player, and I will fix this in the future by adding checkpoints/safety zones, coyote time on trap activation, and artifacts to ease gameplay. The mouse aiming feature was added at the last minute at a friend's suggestion, so I didn’t have enough time to fully test its functionality.

As I understand it, the main problems arise from the lack of smoothing during aiming and moving the cursor in fixed update rather than in every frame. To continue the game, clicking is not necessary; just pressing a button is enough. But because I kept pressing buttons, I didn’t manage to see the screen myself, so it forcibly remains active for about a second. I will revisit my solution and may find a more optimal one. Thank you very much for your comment!

The game felt very unfair and discouraging! Evil spikes!

A cool concept! The blinking mechanic looked good. But the game was really tough for me. Would definitely suggest balancing, and more sound effects!

Thank you very much for trying my game and leaving such a detailed report on the forum! I'm very glad that you were able to spend time on my game! I will comment on your report there; perhaps you can suggest something else.

Cool game, died a million times but still a solid game man congrats <3

Honestly. The game elicits only one thought, “Are you kidding me!?”.

Developer(+2)

I'm very sorry that the game left you with only that impression, and in your adventure something always went wrong : ( I know there is a problem with excessive difficulty, but unfortunately, it's too late to fix it within the scope of the jam. After the jam, a new version will be released that will offer a more appropriate difficulty level.

Very fun at first, but overstay it's welcome later. There should be clues about the trap to make these meaningless deaths feel less discouragement and frustated.

Overall, still a solid entry!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback! I will try to create a new version later that reduces the difficulty, including revising the interactions with the traps.
