I finally finished this game! It was a really cool expirience I gotta say. There is no bugs to my knowledge and game feels polished and complete.
The first 10 minutes I was just wandering around, exploring game area, trying to find some clues and it was very confusing. But after that I got used to location of everything and managed to fix all warnings and errors! It's really clever that you don't need any tutorial on screen (except for controls) to know what to do: there are NPCs in world that direct you. And all of them are funny xD
I have one minor complaint and it's controls. It could've been easier to move with mouse and interact with a click, but it's probably ok the way it is.
That being said, it's an awesome game and I would love to see more creations from you!

Also be sure to rate my game too https://itch.io/jam/blackthornprod-game-jam-1/rate/319192

That has to be a current world record lol

Thanks so much for the feedback! We are glad you enjoyed  our game and great job on being able to find everything!

We wanted the controls to feel like you were physically moving the broom and with mouse point and click it just didn't have the same weight, but we do understand the learning curve associated with it.

If you are interested, after the voting period is over we will be uploading an updated version with a shorter timer, a few visual revamps, and a more concise map layout.

Thanks Again! :)

Yeah, I'll make sure to play updated version!

Cool visuals, pretty well made, but often unclear on what goes where and why. I gave a prefab to a bubble and I still don’t get what was supposed to give me a hint here. :s

Good work!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback!

The bubble is an empty gameobject, being used as a fire point. If you speak with him before bringing the prefab he is looking for "something" in his folder. We admit he is the most ambiguous of the warnings. Hope that helps clear him up. :)

Thanks again!

Thanks so much for the feedback! Glad you liked it.

A cool experience, even if it was a bit hard to find things and was sometimes unclear about what I should do, also the father block thing was looking for it's child object, and I had it but it still told me too look for it for some reason. Overall, I liked it, adding a sound effect for the broom moving was a nice touch. And if you by any chance wanted to try my entry, this is it here, https://redstonie.itch.io/game-dev-existential-crisis

Thanks so much for the feedback! You probably picked up the prefab the object the Father wants is labeled son but you aren't the only person who got confused by this so we changed how the father looks. We also added an arrow that points to where you should go and made the map smaller. If your interested we will be uploading an updated version when voting is done that has the features i just mentioned.

Even though this game was about rushing to fix the errors in time, it was very calming. 15 minutes was a lot of time, but I enjoyed exploring this world! The art was cute and the music nice, they fit very well together!
At first, I was kinda lost in the map, without knowing where I should go. The NPCs helped a lot, but I think it would be nice if they stopped pointing directions for the problems I already solved.
Congrats on your entry!

Oh, nice! I'm looking forward to it!

Neat concept! I liked the visuals and the playground feeling of just being able to explore. I feel like if this game was a little tighter and less aimless at the start you'd have a really solid experience here. I also feel like 15 minutes might be a little too much - something under 10 would probably be way better!

Overall, I liked what you were trying to do. Keep it up. \Sishio

We realized that 15 minutes was too much in retrospect. We were the only ones able to play-test it and we wanted to be fair. We were thinking of changing it to the 5-8 minute range.

thanks for the feedback. We are glad you enjoyed it.

I don't completely understand whats going on in game, but somehow I am compelled to play more of it. I had fun exploring it ! :D

Developer

Thanks for your feedback. Glad you had fun. :)

The idea is cool, but it does get quite repetitive after 15min. Especially if you are just moving around aimlessly without knowing where to go.

Developer

Thanks for the Feedback!

We were worried about the aimless wandering, so we added in a few NPCs that give directions. They're a yellow cat, a robot, and a scare crow. In retrospect, we should have considered adding arrows to point to each error and warning, or a minimap.

The game should end after 15 minutes, were you running into a scenario in which you were able to play past that point?

Thanks again for the feedback!

Submitted

Ohh that must have been a miscommunication on my part. I wasnt able to play after 15min. But it applies for around the 10-15min mark. But I really liked the idea and the npcs, I just think that they were to much spread apart. Maybe it was because the environment was hard to navigate, as there were only few 'landmarks' and usually you wouldnt see any/many at once. Maybe faster movement / a dash would make it work as well

Developer

We see, thank you for response, and glad to hear the game wasn't breaking!

We are going to shorten the timer to 5 - 8 mins, in hopes that it adds more of a sense of urgency. We also plan on making the map smaller and a bit more populated, as well a dynamic location indicator to help players get started.  We also love the speed boost idea, and do agree it might vastly improve the game feel!

Thanks again for the feedback!

Pretty cool game :) Minimalistic.
I like the pixel art in the game 👌 and the open world feeling.

I had this idea for having "Deadlines".. as worms sliding around in my game.. but didnt do it.

If you want you can try my game and rate/write feedback :) https://itch.io/jam/blackthornprod-game-jam-1/rate/318942

Just curious, but did you run into any bugs, or game breaking issues?

Can't tell if I'm doing quests wrong or the game is bugged. I picked up the mini computer and box colliders but nothing seems to be happening. Apart from that the game is pretty fun.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback!

The objects that you pick up need to be brought to certain people and places through out the game. The green box near the tree is a maximize button for and application window that cant open. From there the collider he gives is the shape of another character who can't be interacted with until given that collider. Hope this helps.

We are glad you enjoyed it.

Sorry, I mean even when taking some of them back to the people who asked for them. E.g. I took the mini computer back to the father computer but when talking to him he had the same line. Am I supposed to do something else?

Developer

Ah! We see. Is the "tiny computer" labeled PreFab?

The Father is Looking for his Son (labeled Son). Try looking for him in the BitCoin Mine (the yellow cat can give you direction to the Mine).

Good on you for finding them, they are both secretes for a better score. Also the PreFab, is a secret for another character.

If the characters are repeating themselves they most likely want something else.

Some characters do have additional dialog after being given what they are looking for.

Again, Thanks for the feedback! :)

I really liked the music and the visuals (I'm a sucker for pixel art). The idea is also very nice, and the controls are confusing but in a good way (I was pressing the wrong direction in the beginning, but in the end I was rotating and running like crazy).

I do think that the map is a bit empty. The colorful.. clouds (are the clouds?) help to hide that fact, but most of the game is spent walking around. It helps you get used to the controls and enjoy the music and the randomly placed worms (which are adorable), but it gets a little boring after a while.

Apart from that, great game!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback. The music and aesthetics of the game were definitely a high point for us in the development process. We are glad you enjoyed them as much as we do.

The "clouds" are just floating application windows to reinforce the feeling of being in a computer or a program, but they are the clouds of this world.

Just curious, were you able to get to the end? Or did you run out of time?
