Managed to just live with a 43K score, fun twist by having a carried through survival health mechanic (I guess that’s kind of similar to the original in a way, but worked very well here). Pseudo 3D aesthetic was very nice - my only nit is that the platforming aspect and timing was a bit tough to judge, found myself always triggering a little early which, especially for the last event, would make it rather stressful since I’d have to go through them all again just to get back and try that one again. I guess that’s by design though, Crunkle is not forgiving! Nice work.

Minor other edit: having in-game controls always helped a lot, though I was able to mostly correctly guess the intended control to use.

The difficulty is one of the tougher things for me to balance. I wanted it a bit difficult but not unbeatable. I made it so I'm pretty good so it's hard to gauge and no one had time to play test it for me. I was worried about the jump and tried some things to help out, but I didn't have time to redo too much. I agree that in game controls would have helped a lot.

I'm glad you liked it and thanks for playing and thanks for your feedback!

Sorry, but this game is not free from bugs - It has a giant spider!

For real though, that beast is scary and so hard to outrun! Fortunately, it didn't stop me from enjoying any of the events. I think my favorite one was the knife throw. The 3D pixelart visuals in the running events look awesome, even though they sometimes make it hard to comprehend how far are the obstacles. I am impressed that you managed to make 5 different minigames, this game feels very polished and finished. Great entry!

Developer(+1)

Ha, once I saw the theme for this round, I really wanted to throw that spider back in as motivation to run faster. I had the idea to do a 3D sewer run last round, but it didn't make sense in the story and was a lot of work on top of everything else that I needed to get done, so I'm glad that I could get it to fit this round.

Knife throwing was one I really liked after I got it working, probably my favorite as well.

This Jam over the last few years, with feedback from the people playing the games, has really helped me get better at making games.

Thanks for playing!

This was fantastic as always!  The use of pseudo 3D with the GB graphics felt great, and luckily as someone who also made a hurdles event with a bit of a button mash strain, I was able to get the technique down.  Great job!

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, there is some skill in pressing the jump button while mashing without losing much stride. Thanks for playing!

You got a lot of events, and all of them were good. I love the GB asthetics, they look great. I also didnt find any bugs. I like that you continue the crunkle series, always one of the top entries.

Developer(+1)

Thanks. If I make to the next round, there will more than likely be another chapter in the Crunkle series. Thanks for playing!

Great continuation of your GB extravaganza :)

Developer

Thanks and thanks for playing!

Dang so beautiful. Lots of events and all so uniquely set in their world. Excellent submission. Def top three, if I had to guess!

Developer

Thank you, thank you! And thanks for playing!

The 3D perspective is fantastic and those dangling tentacles when the beast approaches from behind really ramps up the tension. The overall presentation and aesthetics are excellent. While the variety of events is great, button mashing isn’t my strength, so I only got to experience the sewer run, bomb throw and sewer hurdles. I’m sure the other two are just as good though and I will look forward to seeing someone else accomplish them. One minor suggestion would be increasing the player’s running speed as their health depletes could enable players like me to see more of the game even if it means sacrificing some points. I like the option of controls, particularly the angle brackets as it’s comfier pressing them with being closer together and the roll animation on the sewer hurdles is really cool if you fail to jump in time

Developer(+1)

Ah, yeah, that's a good idea. Especially for a jam where not all the players are down with the same mechanics.

Those buttons were what I developed on because I could mash with both index fingers and then tap space with my pinky when needed.

Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback!

I've completed the game - woohoo! Changing my button mashing technique really helped. I think on another screen it said I had like 43,000 points, I'm well happy :)

Developer

Oh, nice! Congrats! Not bad for someone who's strength isn't in button mashing.

I had some trouble reading the control diagram at first and before I knew it I got bitten by a spider, would be nice to move the controls inside of the game, so you know what is needed for each minigame.

Managed to get a score of 24.940. Amazing game. This game is ready to be shipped for the gameboy, really cool.

Developer

You're right, I was going to add in onscreen controls, like I did in the round one game, but it didn't make the cut before I ran out of time. Now I am thinking I should have moved it up a bit.

Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback!

I get the following error when I try to open your game:

I'm on a mac with chrome. Am I doing something wrong?

(Maybe good to know for other people running into this issue) Nevermind, this only happens when running the game using https://itch.io/randomizer probably because it is running from within an iframe or something.

Developer

I think someone else had the same issue playing my round 1 game, and I couldn't figure it out. Thank you for finding that and letting me know.

32870 was my first time score. Took me a while to figure out how to run (didn't read hehe) but the animations... WOW!

The animations and world building is amazing!
I am so impressed with your work! Fantastic selection of games, brilliantly implemented!

Seeing the comments, I am obligated to say audio was great for me :D The flying monster knife throw was so well designed, its a close favourite after the running and jumping tasks.

(that skelly boi sure has a great cardiovascular system!)

Developer(+1)

Nice! Thank you so much and thanks for playing!

The skeleton drinks a lot of chocolate milk to keep his systems going.

I really enjoyed this one! The jumpscare sound is so incredibly loud I had to turn my volume down. Some of the minigames acted a bit odd, like the bomb throwing one I accidently threw it right away and it just kinda feel but I still one. Also the knife throwing one feels absolutely terrible to play but I think that's intentional. I was a bit confused by the movement - I thought I had to alternate left and right which was very hard to win with. I had better luck spamming both at the same time which was a bit confusing.

The one thing I wish were added was a leaderboard, I think that would motivate me to play more to try and beat others scores, but all in all it's a super polished experience, nice job!

Developer

Audio is a tough one to get right, that's why I have the +/- to set the volume. I have people both tell me it's too quiet and too loud.

I suppose for the bomb one, it could be a fault if you don't throw it across the line.

I actually liked the knife throwing one. It was meant as a break between the button smashing because you only have to aim and then throw the knife at the right time.

For the running, I matched how it was in the original, because I thought it was fine, each button is its own little distinct speed up, but you could mash only one and make it through. So you could alternate, or just mash each asynchronously, or at the same time, however you feel most comfortable to button mash.

Leaderboards seem to be popular, I guess since it's pretty minor to get one up and going I should start working on an implementation I can copy pasta into different projects.

Thanks for the feedback and thanks for playing.

I actually did like the knife throwing, I just don’t think it needed both the slightly clunky movement and the slow throw speed. I think just having one of these mechanics would preserve the slower pace and positioning element whilst still not being too easy and still pretty slow and chill.

Developer

Ah, I see now, thanks for clarifying.

The Atmosphere!!! I feel already familiar with the artstyle and the level of challenge that "crunkle" can bring to the game :)

"win or die trying" :D :D :D
