The asthetic is still amazing :) The hurdles event was really hard and although I tried a couple of times, i just barely qualified and didnt manage to beat Mr. Monocle. Nonetheless a great entry

You’ve nicely carried through the aesthetic through all the rounds and continues to hold together, I just love the way the character idles and runs and everything. My main gripe if anything is more to do with my gripe with the original game around button mashing - most awkward in hurdles where you need to button smash but also risk losing velocity as you pause to try and use the jump command. Though maybe arrow keys. But I won’t fault for that, nice work replicating the original’s UI work.
The retro feel that you mastered with this series fits perfectly for a Track & Field remake! Everything feels very polished and I like the attention to detail.
The dash event is pretty easy, but sadly I couldn't get through the hurdles. I've summed up things that I think could've improved them:
- offsetting the camera so the player sees hurdles earlier,
- increasing the jump velocity,
- shrinking the hurdle's (or player's) collider,
- making it a little more forgiving, because it feels like hitting one hurdle is enough to fail the whole round,
- ideally, not making the player redo the entire previous event to attempt this one.
Now here's what I absolutely loved about this game:
- The running animation gets me every time, it's so hilarious!
- The story setup! The fact that I am competing against Mr. Monocles is very motivating.
- The lines before hurdles are a great idea.
- The stun animation is amazing and so well done!
- The crowd cheering after every round is such a neat detail.
- All the data being displayed at the top, just like in the original!
- The retro music, it creates a very fun vibe.
I probably shouldn't have spent more time writing the comment than playing the game, but I hope the feedback helps. I'll surely return to play this later, because I can't wait to see how the story ends, and I won't let Mr. Monocles beat me at hurdles!
Yeah I tried to make the events hard enough that it would be a challenge, but I think I think I overshot it. Thanks for the advice! It's good to remember that being able to play through the whole game counts a lot more than having a difficult challenge in a game jam. If you want to give Hurdles another shot, there's a bit of a cheat where if you mash left and right at the same time it'll count as if you were mashing but with less finger strain so you can go faster for less effort and keep your left hand free for hitting the jump while you're running
Another great entry in a great series! The music, start ditty, and crowd animations were excellent.
I just squeezed through the 100m dash but I didn't even get close on the hurdles but that's more to do with me being bad at button mashing than anything. When I got the jumps right it felt good, but even missing it I got to see a nice animation so I'm happy either way. Speaking of animation, the crowds were awesome and I really liked the sounds throughout. I liked the backstory in the description page too and would of been great to see it in the game itself but glad you made one to read. Some ideas that may or may not improve the game would be: seeing Mr Monacle race alongside would be epic, adjusting the camera to the left might help a little bit with the hurdles but it certainly felt fair as it was though, having an easy option or cheat so that your speed can never drop down below your top speed so it's more finger friendly unless you hit a hurdle and it resets. Overall, a very enjoyable game that's got a lot of style, best of luck!
I've been playing your game again and I've changed my button mashing technique. I think the hurdles are balanced perfectly and I did it in less than 19 seconds and even beat mr monacle. I then got to the skeet shooting which was awesome, my highest was 95. I'm still not quite quick enough on the 100m dash to beat mr monacle and save the olympics yet but I'm getting close to doing it
Very fun game :)
Couldnt get past the hurdles event though, quite difficult
An excellent addition to the Sir Spectacles series! Loved the button mashing and hurdle jumping. I had the worst time on the skeet shooting, still haven't beat the 70 points on it but I'll keep trying. As always, the art and theming is so well done. Great game, very fun.
my hands hurt when playing this :S, overall loved the style the controls scheme made it kinda annoying but overall amazing!
I really like the feel of the game and it's very polished. The hurdles event in really difficult because the hitbox for the hurdles (or sir spectacles) is way to large, and the jump feels kind of weird. It's fun to have both the challenge of qualifying for the next event and beating Mr. Monocle's score. Very well done!
Hurdles event is very challenging :)
The game feels very polished and I loved the crowd animation when you finish the event!
fantastic work!
