Great game, Im amazed what you have managed to do in a short time!
It's seriously so commendable just how straight forward this game is in terms of drip feeding its different mechanics to the player. Every single new mechanic was established early on in the game absolutely flawlessly without the need of any tutorial dialogue which is so impressive! The puzzles were all really fun and the game is presented beautifully
I wish there was a way to reset the positioning of items in a level though, or if that's too difficult at least a way to pull objects towards you, because it gets very easy to hard lock yourself in this game by accidentally putting a light in the wrong place
Thank you very much. :)
I'm curious as to which places you got stuck on, as the mechanics (and the positioning of the sensors) should allow for the player to undo the actions they did. There have been a few situations in the past where the player could get themselves permanently stuck, but I think I fixed those.
I am wondering if you didn't know that you could pickup and drop objects, like my friend did. I probably should have at least put some text in-game to help with that.
There is a bit of a problem with resetting the position of objects is that some of the levels rely on objects' positions being saved, though it is doable. Though I'm pretty low on space in Pico-8.
Allowing the player to pull objects towards them would definitely allow the player to get themselves stuck though.
Great puzzle game! I really liked the art and light vs dark mechanics.
Beautiful game with some nice mechanics, and all on Pico-8. Well done!
So I got myself suck is this level.
But is a fun puzzle game. Really liking it ! good job !
I think may need some tip on this level?
The art style is simple but beautiful. You were able to cram quite a lot of character and detail into the 1-bit aesthetic within the constraints of the theme, bravo. The the application of the theme is great, the light and dark mechanics are combined to create a very satisfying puzzle experience.
As for complaints, some of the level design could be simplified a little, or at least given better visual indicators. I got stuck on this level as I wasn't sure what to do. The previous levels had the wires sticking out on the ground to give you a hint on what each switch does. This has no wires, and has a LOT of switches. Makes it very difficult to sift through the possible combinations and figure out what each combination does.
Despite that, it is still a very impressive entry and that achieves a lot within the limitations of the theme.
Thank you very much. :)
For that level, all of the sensors on the top half to be activated, so putting a lot of wires down felt like it would get too noisy. I originally just had 5 sensors, but realized there was a solution that skipped what it needed to teach, so I made the solution more restricted. Definitely should have made it simpler.
To actually get passed that door, you also need the lantern.
Thanks for the hint. More feedback!
(I removed the lantern from the maze already, but the point still stands) Although very thematic, wandering around a large maze in the dark is just tedious, there is little to no skill in reaching the end of the maze, it is just a very slow, painful, process of elimination. The simpler maze in the start wasn't that bad because it was short, plus you had a switch that revealed the whole maze for a while.
Another puzzle that can be simplified. Once you find the solution, it's just repeating the process a couple more times to complete it.
All of the ideas for light puzzles are well-developed and intuitive, builds upon its own foundation at a brisk pace. Very polished overall..
The game is mesmerizing with nice details and a great retro feel. The particles, environment and even the character are spot on. Love it :D
I beat the game and found a bug (description below).
Very nice! And cute website itch.io. Puzzles also good and well thought out, it has to be a pleasure to make those. I wonder if the pacing of adding new elements is too fast? On the other hand, it's Jam and the game is surprisingly polished and has an awful lot to offer. Especially in the end with a "mushroom dynamic lights" hehe.
I found a bug! at this point in the video I can flip the light to the other side. If I'm not mistaken in another place later I can also cheat like this.
thank you. I was actually a bit worried that I wouldn't make enough levels or that they would be boring. Most of the time during the jam was spent programming a level editor.
And thanks for telling me about the skip. I did test each level when I made them, but stuff like that still got passed me. I think for that specific case, I added that doorway above to let the player in or out even if the lower door is locked. Plus the fact that items could get dropped/picked-up through doors doesn't help.
Really well executed game. Clean mechanics and nicely polished level design. Good job.
Cool game, nice work! And nice use of Pico-8 - just under the token limit!
super cute game, i really like the art! at some point the stone got stuck in the corner, and i had to restart but nice game.
Great puzzle game! The mechanics work well and the graphic style is really pretty and very detailed ^^
